One of the last small, mom & pop type hardware stores left. Love the staff, especially one young guy who is almost always there and KNOWS his STUFF! He always helps me when I need even the smallest thing. I manage and apartment building in the area and while I'll admit I go all the way to Cicero or Hodgkins to Home Depot sometimes but for most things, it's close and easy. Customer service here is great. When I was there to buy some products to stain a door they were very helpful with suggestions. And today an order I placed at Ace.com got messed up because part of my order was cancelled and the employees at this store took the time to straighten it out. They went above and beyond. read more

Very expensive, staff are not very helpful. Went to buy a broom after looking on line, found one of less quality and was more expensive then the good one I found online. Just go to the Ace on cermak and you'll get what you need. Besides the manager Tony is always helpful and will find you what you need when in doubt. read more

This is/was my neighborhood Ace with all of my neighborhood employees. My visits to the store were always greeted by someone I knew, someone I trusted with my keys, my broken windows, their opinion and advice. I really liked the old store. When I didn't pay my bills online, I paid them there. The store was sadly sold last year I believe or at some point during the pandemic and while everything in the store looks bright, shiny, and new, the new people are not. The old employees the ones that are left, don't look happy but they stick around because of loyalty or nostalgia. Juan and Sandy kept the store afloat through the chaos of the remodel. Their hard work and effort have gone unappreciated since Sandy was demoted. And sadly Karen (the crabby but caring cashier) who had been there forever, was fired. This is a community and loyal customers look for community in our shops and shopping. Corporate, if you want to be a friendly neighborhood Ace with loyal old and new customers then stop gaslighting the older employees and begin treating them with respect. Value the work that they do by rewarding them with a true work/life balance, value their experience, and their historical knowledge, value the community that you moved into, period. This place sucks as a hardware store. Great paint store though. They seem to have fired everyone that had any kind of hardware knowledge. Management doesn't seem to care about the store, and every time I visit the staff is standing in the tinting room or by the paint counter laughing and goofing off. Item I wanted to buy was out of stock & Salesman "Steve", definitely not a personable people-person seemed irritated that I asked him to assist me finding what I needed to purchase. He didn't offer any advice as to when the store would replenish their stock, offered no apology but actually broke out in a little sweat & took the item off the hook & shoved it in my hand. Offered no apology as to why the item was out of stock. Overall, this store appears to be well stocked with mostly over-priced, average quality ACE brand items. Next time I'll order online & wait 1 week or more for the store to phone me to tell me my item is in & ready for purchase. read more

I always enjoyed going to this Ace in the past (had no problems) but recent events have changed my view. A small business has to excel at customer service to effectively compete with the big box stores (Home Depot, Menard's, etc.) However the last three times I have gone into this particular Ace I've experienced poor customer service. Nobody has asked me if I needed assistance - they are all to busy joking around with each other at the front of the store. Heaven forbid if I should actually ask them for help because I wouldn't want to "bother" them. I will not shop there again. There are too many other stores that actually care. That slogan "Ace is the Place with the helpful hardware Man" does not apply to this store. read more

Went to purchase some cleaning supplies. The staff was friendly and catered to my needs. They treated me like I was a friend, and with their personal service, I was able to find what I needed very quickly. The store is a bit small, and so the aisles can feel a little claustrophobic. This store was impressive in the past, but now there attitude is much different. They used to help as soon as you came in, and they were pleasant, now they can't be bothered with you. Also, I always dread when the older woman is at the cashier counter as she is an unfriendly, rude nightmare with a bad attitude (nothing against her age, I'm older also),the other cashiers are nice. Go here if you want quick personable service. I spent almost an hour at Home Depot trying to get anyone to even look my way. I went to JC licht shows him the paint swatch of colors off Pinterest and he showed me the swatches in less than 2 min. Wow! So impressed!!!! Good Ace with fair prices. I try to support local businesses whenever I can. They have a wide selection of products...more than depot or lowes. Staff is very helpful...i have bought everything from ice melt to lawn food to a snowblower and a lawn mower. Set up and delivery are possible with larger items. Overall - very impressed. read more

These folks have what I want. I do have to hail the staff for help, and they are mostly young, but then everyone is young compared to me. It is cluttered because they have so much stuff, and that is good. Much better service here than at the big box stores. The merchandise is better quality at Ace. I am happy to pay for that quality. read more
