I am giving a 5 star review specifically for Anthony, a photographer at the Emerald Square Mall location. I have had terrible experiences with JCPenny Studios in the past with making us wait well over an hour for family or newborn photos and with having extremely rude staff. I once had a photographer say that he wouldn't be positioning anyone for photos because his job was to only take the pictures. I do continue to use JCP photo because of their availability and pricing compared to using a personal photographer. I had the most wonderful experience with Anthony because took us on-time and was professional as well as trying his best to do whatever he could to get my 1,3 and 5 year old to smile. I do believe that corporate is mostly to blame. How can you expect good experiences from photographers that are given such small time frames to take family pictures? read more

I received a 2yr membership as a gift from a family member when my son was born so we could take family pics. I've been here a fair number of times & the service is always consistently $h1tty! The first time I went was for newborn pics, the girl staged photos of a large stuffed animal we bought as a prop for our newborn pics. The noodle she used to prop the stuffed animal up showed up in almost every single shot she took & ruined all our newborn pics. We had about 3 images to choose from. I was pissed. Do they not pay attention to the images they take on their camera & restage for quality?! We didn't complain. Second time we went was for family pics. The wait wasn't long but still waited for 15mins after our appointment time. The shoot went great & the photographer showed experience. We left happy. The date comes around to pick up our pics & I show up to get them. The pics weren't in yet & were delayed yet I got no call about it. I wasted my time & a trip to pick up pics that weren't there. The manager compensated me w/free pic magnets. I couldn't care less but still didn't leave a complaint w/anyone. Third time we went for 1yr baby pics, we waited wayyyy past our appointment time & there weren't many customers there; we must've waited for an hour or so. The photographer was good & did well directing the shoot. We had to then wait for a while AGAIN to be able to pick our images to order. Ok fine whatever. The send a survey email & hubby rips them a new one w/the shotty service. By now, we decide not to renew the portrait membership & never come back. Welp our relatives have the membership & wanted to do a generational family pic for the holiday & to none of my astonishment we show up at our appointment time for 11:40 & don't get our turn until 12:50!! By now my son had a full blown meltdown & I had to take him to the car to calm down. How does management book appointments & not honor the time especially working w/families w/young children?! The photographers have been consistent w/good shot but the overbooking & poor time management causes a shit storm at this place. While we were there, another family had waited for 2hrs & yelled at the manager btw. I'm never coming back here. This place is a hot mess!! read more

I would leave zero stars if I could, terrible customer service. My family would use JCPenney for Christmas portraits for years and they have gone down hill for sure. We were trying to recreate a family photo with our dog and at the last minute we were told we couldn't bring her. She has hair for one and two we could have brought our own blanket like we have done for years. they would not accommodate us at all and became rude about it too. I had a great experience with the photographer, who basically took some magical shots of my child who isn't the most cooperative. This is the reason for the three stars. Otherwise, I'd have to say that I probably wouldn't come back. I had one of the first appointments in the morning, and somehow we only got to take picture almost two hours later. They said that they were unexpectedly understaffed, but it seems like this is more common than they lead on, based on other reviews. The packages are also super expensive, which is a real bummer. read more

I went here to get my daughter's 2 year pictures done and the studio manager, Nick, was the one who helped us out and photographed us. We were using a Groupon but you wouldn't know it as we weren't rushed at all or treated like a lesser customer for it. His prior client ran 15 minutes into our time slot and he apologized and even threw an additional print for free at the end because of it. Now, my daughter was SUPER fussy and threw a few tantrums but Nick never lost his cool. He was patient and ended up getting her to laugh a few times, which can be tough. He was very likable! Better yet, he got a great one of her that really allows her personality to shine through. Don't look anywhere else. They have multiple background choices and with his ability, there's no need to pay double the price for an on site photographer. Go see Nick!! read more

My family and I had a wonderful experience with photographer, Cindy Cormier. She was able to capture the most amazing family pictures for us. She was kind, calm, and provided direction to create a smooth, yet successful shoot. She was extremely personable and definitely had an artistic eye . To top it off, she was so patient in helping us edit and selecting the perfect prints. We are so grateful and thankful for the experience she gave us all. read more

Just want to say I am taking the time out of my day to write this because I couldn't have been more aggravated with the staff. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. We booked this for Easter pictures for my two-year-old and her cousin also two years old. Our appointment was at 330 we showed up at 3 and did not check in till maybe 315- 320. We check in & are told we will be called up when the photographer is ready. Now we are waiting and waiting and waiting .... Finally, we go and check how much longer our two-year-olds are now very upset it's about 4-420, and the girl who sits in the front doing NOTHING said to my friend "What's the name again ?" As if we weren't sitting in front of her for the past two hours now. Now I'm mad and watching her not be able to find our appointment on the clipboard. Why? She had our appointment sitting behind her! While all other appointments sit in front of her where she can see them. We were not apologized to. It is now 445 we are FINALLY being called in, and both our daughters are no longer willing to take photos after being confined to a small waiting room for two hours and purposely being ignored and skipped over! The photographer herself can I just say so UNPROFESSIONAL. You'd think they'd want to comfort you since it is their fault, dared to say we showed up way too early to our appointment as if it's not their fault they take in way too many appointments and clearly can not time them out correctly. If I made a appointment for 330 why am I being taken in at almost 5 ?! The blonde girl who sits at the front desk doing nothing could be at least taking down numbers and calling to come back when they are ready instead of looking at a screen doing nothing twirling with her fingers like an airhead! They need to learn their jobs because they clearly suck at it bunch of faces with no brains. Will NOT be going there again! read more

They run hours behind. And it wasn't just a bad day. I watched other people who traveled with a a dog get told 2 hours behind at 7pm, they rescheduled for a 3rd try because last time there was also a long wait apparently. When you ask how much longer they tell you that your lucky the wait isn't longer and they called other studios who are running just as behind.... lol what??? Why do I care about that. The photographer, wasn't very friendly. I had 3 kids all old enough to position themselves. She was physically grabbing them, and their Faces, instead of just telling them to look a certain way. She rushed she didn't give us time. She left the 7 year old in tears after grabbing his face and at that point was like we will go with what we have instead of offering time to let him catch is breath. It had been maybe 5 minutes out of our 15 min appointment. Considering the 2 hour wait you think they'd give you time. After being rushed out was told it would be longer to view the pictures. I scheduled to come back tomorrow since it was Monday and people would be at work. Waited another half hour to look at the pictures , She got like 4 decent pictures. Worst photo experience I've ever had. Not worth the cheap Groupon prices. Had anyone's demeanor or customer service been friendly , I wouldn't of felt The need to leave the review. read more

Our appointment was later in the evening and even though there was a bit of a wait, the staff still treated us like we were the first customers of the day! I couldn't imagine dealing with that many people in a day and still managing to be kind and professional!! I love love love how my photos came out! I absolutely recommend this place! read more

I am completely dissatisfied with my experience I had at a Lifetouch Studio located in a JC Penney in Massachusetts. I scheduled a family shoot for mother's day and decided to purchase the digital album so that I could take the time to create the perfect Mother's Day gift. Despite the experience with the photographer feeling abrupt and subpar, I was still hopeful that she captured the images I was looking for, given that I had used Lifetouch Studio at Target more than a half a dozen times before. At first glance, the images looked good on the screen, but when I had time the next day to look through them again, I noticed the backgrounds in most pictures were wrinkled and messy. The quality as a result was poor and did not look professional. I e-mailed a representative from Lifetouch Inc. and was offered either a re-shoot or that they could possibly (with no guarantee) edit the photos to smooth out the background. I opted for a re-shoot even though it would not be on time for Mother's Day, because I did not want to spend more money and be unhappy if they could not make the proper edits. I was told I would be contacted by the studio manager. Two months passed and I received no calls/messages. I contacted the representative I communicated with initially, and let them know that I had not heard from anyone. The representative replied again saying I would be contacted by the studio manager. Two months passed again, no calls/messages. I sent another e-mail and this time I have not received a response. So, over 5 months later, I am stuck with messy unprofessional photos and disappointment. Had I had a positive experience, I would have booked at least two more shoots for other events since then. Apparently this company does not take complaints seriously and although they claim to be professional, you cannot rely on the photographers to make sure the backgrounds look professional. It pathetic that they cannot respond to customers is a reasonable way. read more

Not recommended. I went for a simple professional photo. They were an hour late, rude, and obviously didn't want my future business. Not worth your time, unless you are OK with sitting in the waiting area for "15 more minutes" that turns into 45. read more

This place takes ok pictures (you get what you pay for). But my real complaint is with their lack of customer service. I scheduled the Christmas photo session for my children last week at 8pm. When I got there at 7:45 they told me they were at least an hour behind! There were lots of other families still waiting in the waiting room (some with appointments scheduled for as early as 6:30pm). Another mother asked why they didn't call to let everyone know they were behind so that we could come later, but they said they didn't a have time to call. They didn't take us until a little after 9pm...we didn't leave until 10:30! And mind you, these were all families in the waiting room with children...it was very inconsiderate of them to make these families wait...some of the children were cranky by the time they went in to take their pictures, I doubt the pictures came out as well as they could have. But really the worst thing was the lack of empathy of the staff, they just said "oh well." Needless to say, I won't be going back there again. Update: my sister went to take pictures today and because of my experience last week, I told her to take her time getting there. She called them several times to ask whether or not they were running late but no one answered the call. When she checked in, they told her she was 10 minutes late and they wouldn't take her. However...there were still lots of people in the waiting room (they were running late again, not surprisingly). When she mentioned that it wouldn't have made a difference if she came 10 min earlier or not, that she would still be waiting...they said they "didn't care" and wouldn't budge about canceling her appointment. I had originally recommended JC Penney to her, but now I really regret it and feel bad that she had this bad experience. read more
