My experience with JC Penny is for a store that want to have customers come in and shop , then why is it that almost two months this store doesn't have air conditioning.All they have are fans. I had a very unpleasant experience at this location on Sunday, December 21 around 4:00 PM, at the upstairs entrance register. I went to purchase a bathing suit that was clearly placed on a clearance rack, and all of the bathing suits were together on that rack and nowhere else in the store. There was no signage or separation indicating otherwise. If there was a pricing mistake, that could have been explained respectfully. Instead, the associate working the register was extremely short, rude, and had a yelling attitude from the start. She repeatedly cut me off while I was speaking and even grabbed the bathing suit out of my hand, which was completely inappropriate. She then called over another associate, who did not even look at the item and immediately yelled "no." The interaction only became more hostile. To make matters worse, they attempted to sell used bottles of cologne that were not even boxed, which was unprofessional. If I could give this location negative stars, I would. I am not someone who complains lightly, but this level of behavior is unacceptable. This associate clearly needs customer service and de-escalation training. I understand it is the holiday season and stressful, but that does not excuse disrespect. I will not be returning to this location. read more

I ordered garments online that did not fit properly. An $8.00 return fee is outrageous. For that, they should pick up at my home, which they do not. I have to drop off at UPS. The nearest store is an hour round trip. I have never had to pay a return fee from a business for an online order. It is no wonder JCPenney is on its last legs. I am done with them and should have gone to Boscov's in the first place. Lesson learned. read more

First off, I really do love JCPenney as a company, so this isn't bashing the entire chain, just this particular worker in this particular store. That said, a while back, (Forget how long ago it was) I went to this location to try on jeans. (Now, please keep in mind I have 10+ years retail experience, and I KNOW not to leave a mess behind for anyone to clean up.) I went into one of the changing rooms and it was, like usual, covered in clothes. Normally, I go out of my way to take the clothes SOMEONE ELSE put there and place them on the tables for the over worked employees, but this time I didn't feel like it. Apparently this was a big mistake. After I left the dressing room, placed my unwanted items on the rack, and headed to leave the store, I realized I'd accidentally left my bag in the dressing room. Needless to say I was having a heart attack and rushed back to the dressing rooms to retrieve it when an employee shouts: "MISS! Did you leave your bag in the dressing room?" and hands me my bag. I was so grateful that I was already planning to call corporate and praise her (because retail workers are not appreciated and more people should be nice to them) UNTIL she said this: " You know...I found this under the mess YOU made. You're welcome." And walked away. I was god damn FLOORED. How unprofessional, rude, and condescending. Never never NEVER assume someone made a mess if you do not know for sure. Instead of praising her to corporate, I'm writing a negative yelp review. It's very sad but hey, that's what happens when you assume. read more

The chain JcPenny has nice things , but this particular store in the Staten Island Mall is always a very annoying experience. First things first, the cashiers they hire are the absolute worst. They all look miserable with life, never a smile on their faces and no matter if there is a line of 10 people or 2 people they always take their sweet time and make waiting in line very annoying. I've witnessed people get off of a line of only 3 people. They really need to pick up the pace. I was a cashier for years in a faster pace more busy store and no transaction ever took more than 1.5 min top. You wont find that here at Jcp. Good luck. Another thing that annoyed me on my recent visit here was that I needed help with something. The original girl I asked was clueless , then I asked a cashier who asked me to ask a floor girl, I find another floor girl and she tells me "i'm just a floor girl i dont know , go ask a cashier" at this point im really annoyed because if you work in a company your answer should never be "idk" make it your business to know... I finally found a very helpful floor girl who DID KNOW how to help me. I really wish I got her name and she is the only reason this review is getting any stars. The men and women's shoe department are not well organized and were it not for an extremely helpful JCP employee, Eve, we would have left the store without a NB sneaker on display, what we were told was delivered and stocked just the day earlier. Eve came out from behind the register to personally attend to our shopping needs and by doing so earned this 5 star reward. The other cashier on shift was also a pleasure. read more

This store is all sorts of disgusting, I wouldn't dream of ever setting foot back into it. While trying on some dresses, I went into the only available dressing room which was a complete disaster with clothing piled all over the floor. There was dust and dirt all over the floor, one would think they would clean this place. When I took my items back to the rack, the attendant under her breath called me "A lazy white bitch" for not bringing the other garments out. I was completely floored by her comment and went back to ask what the issue was. When I asked for a manager not one person in the store would get one. I canceled my JCP credit card and will never shop in one again. read more

Never again would I purchase anything from JCP that needs to be delivered. They outsourced the service to the most arrogant crude company you can find. They didn't call for appointment, just showed up when they wanted, and without all the appliances. Then tried to tell me they couldn't install the dishwasher , even though I paid for the installation. I sent them away without getting anything. Then I went to the store and they tried to get these people on the phone for answers and even they were getting the run around. I was told I would have answers by the end of the day, and of course I didn't get anyone to call me back to resolve anything. Today I have been on the phone again, to no avail. Staff is a horror. Went in there last week to look around. I was interested in their mattress selection and said, what not, looks like a good deal. I like the bed. Long story short, I was in great humor as I must have been there for almost 2 hrs trying to order this bed. Sales person had no clue what she was doing. Thank god other sales reps were helping her or I would have lost it. So we order the bed. Great!!! A few days later I start getting calls that they had to cancel the order because the sales person should have order the bed separately bed frame from the mattress because its from two diff companies... HUH???? Noooooo, I ordered if from one company, JCPenny. Screw it, let they order be canceled. Now her were the real fun begins. I get this relentless sales rep calling me that I have call back to give her my credit card over the phone to reorder... Not once, not twice... but about 4 times... What a store ! I was in there today and the store looked like someone ransacked it. Usually when a store closes for the nite it is made neat again. Not this place ! The dressing room must have had 50 items all over the chair and floor and the clothes in the men's department were all over the place. One table of pants was arranged like a small mountain. No wonder Penny has the problems it does. Although my card is set up for Apple Pay the cashier never heard of it and the card reader wouldn't take it. Had to look up my card. Poor technology. I Come here once in a blue moon ...and every time I come here I end up taking hours looking for stuff because of how disorganized this place is...only thing I really like about this place is sephora .. have a really big and well organized sephora located inside this JC penny ...they do have many sales during the holidays..which is great ...but the only problem is the sales are sometimes deceiving...you have to purchases this with that...kinda annoying... There stuffs are ok... I like there stuff for the kitchen...can be pricy ..clothes are so so... Although they are constantly renovating, I'm just not a fan. I don't like the quality of their clothes or the brands they carry. Everything seems cheap & their staff tends to be slow. The store is always empty, so you never have to worry about beating the crowd. Prices are cheap. You can find odds and ends for your house or a last minute something if needed, but just not my cup of tea. read more

This has always been my go to store for women's plus size fashions. Good selection and good prices. Stylish clothes. They send me coupons so I can really capitalize on a good deal. BUT, there is NO SALES HELP! Not one person on the floor to assist you in any of the men's or women's 2nd floor departments. And only one person handling the register makes for really long lines. What the hell? Plus, they took away the price checkers so you can't help yourself. If you send me coupons, you must want me to shop. But I can't! You force me to leave the store. Today I was looking for a man's sport jacket. Hello, it's Father's Day time. You advertised it. Not one person to help me with sizing. There were no store directories near the escalators or anywhere else. There were no staff members available on the floor to ask about where to find the children's department. Once I got there, it wasn't very well lit. The merchandise I was looking for was not easy to find, and once I found it - it was located up above the floor and I had to find someone to help me (that took a while) to get the stuff down off of the wall with a pole. Why are pajamas so valuable that they need to be so inconveniently high up? The line at the register was long and the wait was too long. I knew exactly what I needed to buy there and it took so long because of the lack of service and how inconvenient the store it. Finally, while she was checking me out, the woman waiting on me did not allow me to se a coupon on my phone. She pretended to put the numbers on the coupon into the register but she did not. In sum, this place sucks, and even if I know they have what I am looking for I will have to be desperate to shop there. read more

I have been going to the JCPenney salon for years. I get my haircut from Frank. He takes his time does everything I ask and is always very friendly. I've noticed he has a very loyal clientele and I can see why. If you ever need a haircut or hair dye whether you're male or female give Frank a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

The clothes in here are decent and their organization is also decent. the prices are also pretty good, some of the problems are that the staff usually looks like they escaped from the senior citizens home and that usually scares away younger generations from shopping here. The nastiest customer service i hae ever received anywhere. Sephora and the Men's department like to hang up on thier customers and are very short with you when you ask a simple question. I originally called the Sephora department just to find out if they had a lipstick in stock. The first girl i spoke to put me on hold after being very short with me and cutting me off, only to put me on to another associate without even telling me. The second associate, when i asked about restocking said item, gave me the "i don't know, you'll have to check back" response with such attitude, and hung up on me as well before i could even say "Okay thanks anyway ". I immediately called JCPenney back in hopes of getting into contact with a direct manager of the entire store. I pressed '0' hoping to speak to an operator or someone who could connect me , but was transferred to the Men's department instead. A rep from the Men's department answered and after breifly explaining my situation to him, i asked him if there was a direct general manager that i could speak with. He told me that he'd transfer me back to sephora and i told him that i didn't feel comfortable speaking with anyone in that department because of how rude the reps were. He proceeded to say "well then I can't help you" and HANGS UP! as someone who works in retail management , let me tell you, if this is how they treat customers then some serious retraining NEEDS to be done.
