Jeff did a great job putting in my small 10x10 patio. The only issues I had were the amount of dust that was tracked into the house, which required me to have the carpets cleaned. Probably could've avoided much of that if the deck next to the patio was hosed down right away. The other issue was in getting them to come back to clean up the plastic around the patio. Should've been done right away after the patio was sealed. But Jeff was very responsive in getting his guys back out to do the cleanup. read more

DO NOT USE JDK Construction. I initially chose JDK Construction due to their positive reviews, competitive quote, and the fact that other contractors suggested removing part of my driveway to demo the garage. Unfortunately, my experience with JDK was disappointing, and I would not recommend their services. Issues with Permits and Registration From the beginning, there were red flags. Jeff, the contractor, failed to register with the City of Middleburg Heights or pull the necessary permits. This lack of compliance raises concerns about whether the work adhered to code, as the building department did not inspect the project. Unprofessional Conduct and Cutting Corners Initially, we discussed sealing the concrete as part of the project. However, due to financial constraints, I informed Jeff before the concrete pour that I could not proceed with the sealing. Jeff reacted angrily, and I believe this impacted the quality of his work. It appeared that he began cutting corners after this conversation. For example: * Foundation Holes: Before the garage floor was installed, foundation piers had to be added, leaving holes that needed filling. Jeff mentioned he would use proper substrates to ensure appropriate compression, but this was not done. Minimal stone was placed, and I doubt it meets code. * Materials Promised vs. Delivered: Jeff initially showed me a carbon fiber-like rebar he claimed would be used, but this was never implemented. * Expansion Joints: The final work lacked necessary expansion joints, which are critical for durability. Delays and Poor Scheduling Jeff was inconsistent with scheduling and often non-committal about when he would show up. After starting demolition on a Saturday, he claimed there were four more hours of demo remaining and planned to return that Thursday. However, he didn't show up until the following Thursday, starting at 1 PM and working until 9 PM. Substandard Workmanship * Concrete Placement: Stone was only placed under part of the sidewalk, and the work around the drain crock, which was damaged during demolition, was poorly finished. Jeff dismissed concerns by saying, "You won't notice," but the flaws are glaring. * Cement Splatter: They failed to protect my house and driveway from cement splatter, leaving me to spend an entire afternoon power-washing. * Sidewalk Finish: During the sidewalk finishing, one of his employees was about to start broom-finishing half of it when I overheard Jeff telling them to stop. It wasn't until I insisted on consistency that they finished the entire sidewalk the same way. Unprofessional Behavior The crew's behavior was unprofessional and disrespectful: * Trash: They left cigarette butts, food boxes, and drink bottles scattered across my property. * Profanity: When issues arose, profanity-laced yelling was common, which was inappropriate in a family-oriented neighborhood. * Damage to Property: Their bobcat caused two cracks in my driveway. While Jeff promised to repair one near the garage, he never did. Payment Issues After the demo and frame setup, Jeff requested half of the quoted payment, which I paid. However, he repeatedly asked for the remaining balance even before the cement truck arrived. In hindsight, I should have withheld final payment until a thorough inspection. Conclusion Near the end of the project, Jeff expressed his dislike for working on garages--a key component of my job. This sentiment was evident in the lack of attention to detail and overall quality of the work. I mentioned not wanting the sidewalk to slant toward the garage and even asked that the sidewalk and garage side door not be level as this would allow water to pool along the door threshold. After reviewing their work once finished I noticed they pitched the sidewalk toward the garage. Jeff is an effective salesman but lacks reliability and accountability in delivering a job to code. If you are considering JDK Construction, ensure he is registered with the city and has obtained all necessary permits. If he fails to do so, I strongly recommend finding another contractor, even if it means forfeiting a deposit. I regret hiring JDK and will not use them again. read more

Do not use. Do research: Look at BBB, court records. Please learn from my mistake with this company and go elsewhere. Short summary: JDK estimate was $5500, day of pour said we would need $2000 more concrete to make the concrete level (should have stopped him then-shouldn't have to pay extra to make concrete reasonably level). Concrete was done terribly. Slope of concrete was very steep and concrete was unusable as a patio (see pictures). Yard was a mess and corners were horrible. Jeff also failed to get a pre-pour inspection with the city of Avon Lake. He also never sealed nor cleaned the concrete or my yard which was a mess. When I expressed my concerns before sealing he stated he would be "happy to rip the whole thing out and give me my money back." My brilliant wife had the sense to record this conversation. Thereafter he ignored my calls and denied this. We took him to court and won the full amount plus court costs. He will not pay and ignores my requests. I called a debt collection attorney and was told JDK/Concrete Construction/Jeff Hughes (these are all the same company) has many such judgements against him. I'd give him a zero if I could. This guy is a dirt bag that lies and extremely unprofessional. My patio project was put off for months half done and failed multiple inspections. I had to teach his crew how to pitch the patio and form it in. They poured short multiple times and had to do a complete tear out and still didn't get it right. Shady dealings and hard to track down. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY OR YOU WILL BE EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED AND OUT LOTS OF MONEY. Caution he is contracted by a company called Marvin Jacob's construction. Just to let you know what you will get if you hire JDK Concrete; you can expect to be given the run around by an unprofessional business owner, get unanswered texts/calls, empty promises, trash left behind, concrete everywhere, 10 days from pour to seal on a patio, and a final product as pictured. My wife saw a special on Facebook so she messaged them so we could get our patio. Amy responded and set up a time to come over with a contract. Amy came over in April with a contract and offered to seal the patio 24 hours after it was cut for an additional $250. We figured it would be a nice convenience to have them do it and have the patio done and usable without waiting until I could seal it. Amy set up a date of May 21, but said to call to see if they were on schedule. My wife texted Amy a few days before and she said we would have to check with her husband, Jeff. My wife texted Jeff and he told her a possible date of June 6. My wife texted Jeff on June 4 to see if they were in schedule. He texted back that he would be over in a half hour. Jeff came over and began immediately bad mouthing his wife saying if he knew we had grass he would have done it sooner (while spitting from his chewing tobacco). He then said they were going to do it that day. Jeff continued to bad mouth his wife and talking about the grass so I questioned if having no grass made it harder (I was really confused) and he said "well some cities need permits but yours doesn't". So he didn't know what city we were in by our address? He dug up the yard, digging 4 feet wider on one side. He also destroyed my wooden steps in the process. We planned on replacing the stairs but not right away. Jeff then said they were going to pour the next day. He left the dug up grass in a large pile on the lawn and left soda bottles behind. Jeff also suggested rounded corners so we agreed. They came back and poured the next day. When they left there was concrete extending from every side of the patio into the grass with gravel from the base. Over the course of the next ten days it took several unanswered texts and calls with numerous excuses to get the patio cut and sealed. It was sealed 10 days after it was poured. Not quite a convenience. I had to break up and remove the concrete and clean up the dug up grass. The rounded corners Jeff suggested have a one inch lip on each side of the corners. It looks very unprofessional. I admit it was such a haste to get the patio cut and sealed I didn't dare even ask about having the corners fixed. We just want to be able to use the patio. I will post pictures with this review. I suggest going elsewhere!!! read more

I posted a picture showing the result of JDK Construction's work. As you can see their work is terrible. They spilled sealer over one section and tried to clean it up. During this process they scraped away some of the cement making it even worse. However, it's not even the correct stamp. I paid $500 for the walkway and $135 for a particular stamp. Prior to the work being done I sent Jeff an email with the name of the stamp (Heavy Stone), a picture of the concrete after using the stamp, a picture of the stamp itself and the website I found everything on. It wasn't what I got. How can you get that wrong To get this resolved I've been leaving voice messages and sending email messages to Jeff telling him this needs to be redone with the correct stamp. We recently had our driveway done and it was a nightmare. I highly suggest do NOT use JKD concrete. He & his crew ripped our our driveway 4 weeks ago, we sat without any progress for 3 and a half weeks. After day 2 of ripping the driveway out he took his first check and had minimal communication with us. After checking with the city about a permit and calling him out on being sketchy he finally started to communicate for a little while. Fast-forward to the 3 and half weeks later it's finally the day to pour! Well 1st we had a drain in our garage he insisted was busted and covered up before Even talking to us about fixing it, and said that we don't need a drain.. I asked for a step by our back door which hr explained would be at 8" but I could raise it up 1 or 2 more inches if I'd like. So I asked for it to be raised 2 inches = 10 inches high. Well that's not what I got, instead they made it all a huge concrete slopw walking out my back door along with our patio area in the side of our garage sloped which was not mentioned either. So day one of pouring is winding down because they ran out of concrete before finishing the walk way and 20 feet of the end of drive. Meanwhile they are finishing edges and broomsweep in the dark 930 at night with just flashlights. Day 2 of pouring I asked about the inclines in the back concerned all the water is just going to sit infront of the garage and he becomes very rude blaming me that it's my fault he ran out of concrete because I wanted the back raised up... I explained I asked for a step, not a huge platform and he sounds ridiculous blaming the customer for his mistake. He didn't like that very much and decided to tell his guys do not do stamped concrete in our walkway they just did a really crappy job of broomsweep even though we had already paid and it's listed in our contract for the stamped and then they never came back to do the seal coating which is in our contract also, drill holes for our gate or get the rest of their wood and steel bars they left. I have never worked with someone so unprofessional and ridiculous. The entire month working with him he constantly had excuses whether it be his truck got broken into, broke down or his dad was sick. He also decided to threaten to come give us a talking too. I personally work with clients and have lost a parent to cancer 2 years ago I know what it's like to watch them go through that but being professional you have to leave that at the door and take care of your clients. I'm sorry for the lengthy post but I hope you don't get ripped off like we did. We lost out on alot of money for a job that didn't go as we talked about and still is incomplete.
