Atmosphere - The walls are covered with items you might find in a museum. The place has a barn or outdoors woodsy feel about the place. We did have to push two tables together but we were a party of 8 what do you except. Food Drink - Crawford Bock. Bock beers are popular in the region, and I try to go with local beers. Dinner - I had the brisket dinner with their famous green beans and mac & cheese. Most of the table ordered those two sides. The table agreed with my thoughts that the mac & cheese was the better of the two. A very loose cheese but held to the noodles well. The brisket was average, they did not ask when end you want. I probably got the fatty end what I like but these slices had an excessive amount, a little trimming could have helped. The knife cuts could have been better too, the thickness of each slice were no even close to each other. There was a little cup of "S" bbq sauce. I will assume the "S" written on the lid was for spicy as it had a little kick. It was great with the brisket. Service - Dealing with a group eight people is never fun. She handled it like a champ. Super friendly, and very informative. Future - Perhaps based on the ease of the location. The bread pudding is calling my name. Yechh! Ribs were dried out slabs with no sauce cooked in. Gave me a little cup of sauce to pour on like ketchup. Pulled Pork had zero flavor. But did have another little cup of ketchup to pour on it. Entering Jeanne's, you feel the western vibe immediately. The walls are decorated with old Winchester calendars, saws, Winchester rifles, flags, art and fishing reels. Very cool! Jeanne's is built like a warehouse and have two huge windows where the kitchen aka food truck is connected. Dining in, there are servers who cater to you or you can walk straight up to the windows for TOGO. I've had the brisket and rib dinner with coleslaw and green beans. The portions are HUGE! The ribs were tender but still held together, not the fall apart type. It was seasoned well and you can definitely taste the smoke! The brisket was moist, Smokey, and flavorful. I try and eat here when I'm in the Lake Charles area working, which is quite often. I've probably eaten here at least two dozen times and almost always I am very pleased and never overly disappointed with the food. I usually have lunch or an early supper and eat the daily specials more times than not. I have seen some of the poor reviews but barbecue is very much a personal preference type of food and I believe that there is no way to please everyone. That being said I enjoy their style of cooking and the ribs have been some of the best I have ever had ever time I've had them. The service is good and very professional in a homey sort of way. Okay, where do I begin? Jeanne and ken are truly amazing, I just got in from a very long day driving across Texas, drove from Arizona. I checked in at the La Quinta inn just up the road. As I walked in the atmosphere was perfect, Jeanne said to kitchen was closed (it was late) I said I would stay for a beer, while sitting there having a beer after a long day I asked her where was a decent place she recommended the Mexican place down the street and Burger King. Being from Arizona I decided Burger King was gonna be the spot tonight... About a minute later she comes by and says to me, I can do a pork steak beans Mac & chess - of course I said yes. The food is beyond amazing. Hospitality of Jeanne and Ken is truly amazing, seem to have hearts of gold and run a exceptional establishment. It's honestly not that great. I've tried the burger with grilled onions and cheese- buns were cold cold... kinda tell u everything u need to know. Went a second time just to give it a chance and got the sausage dinner plate. It's a decent size but I felt they should have been cooked a little longer, though texture. Bottom Line: Very good BBQ at super reasonable prices in low key space. High value eatery. Great friendly staff. Top Line: Following a local's recommendation, I hit up Jeanne's Bourbon St. BBQ on the west side of Hwy 378 (Sampson Street) a few blocks north of I-10 in Westlake, LA. I ordered their *HUGE* smoked sausage sandwich $6 and a 20 oz drink $2, sweet tea for me. Sandwich came with either chips or cole slaw, so I went with the slaw. The sausage had plenty of smokiness and good peppery flavor. The bun was generous in size and it needed to be to hold the mini-mountain of slabbed sausage that came in the sandwich. Bun was sturdy enough to not fall apart while eating. BBQ sauce was sweet with pepper overtones. It reminded me of Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce. Cole slaw was okay. Texture was crunchy, though not crisp, and taste was rather neutral. Neither particularly sweet nor tangy. Just straight up cole slaw. Sweet tea was pretty standard. Not insanely sweet, just enough. At two bucks for the big glass, cheap enough too. Hostess and waitresses were friendly and cordial. Clientele looked like everyday working folks with plenty of families with kids in the crowd. Arrived in town and the owner of where we are staying recommended this place. I'm glad he did. After living 3.5 years in Pensacola Florida and not having decent bbq, this hit the spot. I had the fatty brisket and ribs with green beans and baked mac n cheese. For dessert, i had the bread pudding. I couldn't complain about anything. The atmosphere was pretty cool too. The entire place is decked out in Winchester memorabilia. The owner even has a table set up for fallen soldiers, officers, and fire fighters. The owner took time to talk to me about a motorcycle picture on the wall. He knew one of the guys in the photo. Great story. This was my first and last visit to this location. The meat was greasy and the ribs were obviously boiled. The bbq sauce was ok but the sides lacked. When we went to pay we were told there was a 4% fee for using the card. When I asked why there wasn't a notification on the door I was pointed to a tiny sign with this info. The sausage had a deep smoked flavor-very very tasty. The combos came with bbq sauce and a dinner roll. The bbq sauce is very Brisket DinnerSausage Dinner Plate good-the dinner roll is just a dinner roll..nothing spectacular about It. (The only change or recommendation i would make would be to offer a choice in dinner roll or CORNBREAD!) The people are friendly and the place looks really well kept. My husband and I have been looking for places along our route from Houston to Baton Rouge since we make the trip a lot. We are happy to have found this place! Definitely 5 stars for service and ambiance. Our waitress was so friendly and our food came to us within 10 minutes. There is a "No smoking and No Profanity" sign on the front door which is great; definitely a family atmosphere, though you may choose to sit at the half-moon bar if you'd like. We chose the pork rib dinner and the brisket and rib dinner. Both were very tender meats. I prefer a little more of a spice on the rub. The green beans were phenomenal--definitely a nice, garlic flavor. The baked beans had a chunk of pineapple. My husband said the coleslaw wasn't his favorite because the sauce was too diluted, but he said the mustard potato salad was great. Chose this place on a road trip through LA. The prices are a little higher than I'd expect for barbecue but the food was amazing. The decor and atmosphere was cute and western themed, and has a full bar with saloon type decorations. Somehow feels both rustic and classy. My friend and I got the brisket nachos and baked mac and cheese to share and the nachos were incredible. The mac and cheese was okay. The brisket meat was extremely tender and the sauce was incredible- Id recommend getting a brisket sandwich but the portions on the nachos were huge and more than enough to share. Removing one star because the atmosphere felt extremely hostile. The woman at the counter was rude to us and it felt like everyone in the packed restaurant glared at us as we walked by. Please, we arrived back from vacation, tired but craving BBQ. I went to this place, and my husband stated a BBQ place, but I saw no smoke when we arrived at Jennie's. Bought two plates and 1/2 rack of pork rib. The plates were chicken and another pork rib. If the word nasty is fitting, I'll say it, but the meat tasted like something I've never tasted before. The ribs were BOILED, not cooked on a BBQ pit. The chicken was rubbery, with rice dressing; whoever attempted to make dirty rice failed. The ticket price I paid was $60.00, and I tipped them as well. When we arrived home, I placed the dinners in the frig until dinner. What a waste, and so so disappointed to even continue eating this slop of a dinner. I purchased brisket, which is not worth the $30.00 for a pound of boiled meat. If you have a taste for BBQ, please, by all means, skip this place. It is sad to misrepresent a customer when trying to keep your home or business open, but you sell slop. Where is the Ph.D. of BBQ schooling, your website states? Very delicious brisket and sides. They offer two varieties of potato salad. I chose the sour cream base and it was delicious. The meat was tender and spiced wonderfully. A hint of heat. Yet not so spicy you can't stand it. The sauce was a nice compliment and didn't over run the flavor of the meat. They recently added an indoor eating area and it is very clean and decorated well. I was so disappointed in the food. I was at the Horseshoe Casino on Memorial Day and ask where I could get me some good BBQ and was referred to Jeanne's which was close by. I ordered 4 ribs and doubled beans (was told the beans are really great). I noticed they had a catering order they were packing up into wrapped truck. Got my order and left her a nice tip to round my total to $25 even though she wasn't excited bout taking my order (figured maybe she was going through something personal). I get back on I-10 to my next stop Delta Downs. I decided I was going to eat a rib and some beans before heading inside. I be d@nm the beans had pineapple pieces in it but tasted horrible like either the pineapples and or juice was spoiled and the rib tasted like it was a day old and warmed in the microwave. I was so d@nm disappointed. I w!ll never go back to that place and when I got to my cousin house in Liberty and looked at the rest of the old azz ribs and smelling the sour beans I threw all away. I have gotten food from here a few times and everything I have had was great and cooked perfectly. I have had the chicken, pulled pork sandwich that was so loaded I could barely fit it in my mouth. We had the pulled pork fajitas and the meat was delicious BUT the chips and cheese underneath were the oh so artificial (not real food people) kind you get at the ball fields!! This is the best BBQ place. It's great for lunch or dinner. They really make you feel like you are at home there. The owner, his wife, the staff, and even the bartender are all sweet as pie! I highly recommend the brisket and pulled pork. The ribs are great also. Heck everything is good. I haven't tasted one thing there that I didn't like.
