He went from white to black in the little lions program and then white to (soon) black in the junior program. I have nothing but amazing things to say. The instructors really care about the kids. They don't just know their names, they know their interests, personalities, siblings names, friends. They take the time to really knew each student. They do not push kids through the belt levels either. They make sure each child is really ready to move up before they invite them to promotion testing. My son has ADHD and really struggled especially when he was little. My husband and I agree that a major reason our son is now disciplined, respectful, and can focus better is because of Master Yang's. I even tried Krav Maga and made some great friendships during my brief time in class. Pregnancy and knee surgery kept me from going back but my son continues in their taekwondo program. This studio is more than just a place to learn martial arts, it's a place that teaches a lifestyle, character development and perseverance. Master Yang's quickly became like a home to us and we have loved every minute of our experience. I am beyond thrilled that my son wants to continue beyond his black belt at Master Yang's because I could not bear the thought of leaving our 2nd home. So if you or your child decide at any time that this activity is not for you, Too Bad! U still are responsible for that bill for the next 4-7 years rather you're in class or not. OK, I get that this is a contract and you have to pay your bills. What I don't get, is that Master Yang claims to b about community. When I spoke to his Director Ashley, about my financial problems that I started having, she just nodded me to death, said she understood. As I had to leave the class indefinitely because my electric was getting disconnected, numerous car repairs, and well, just a lot of life hitting me at once. This company does not care if u will b without heat, a vehicle, a job or anything else that makes it a lil easier to get thru life. They want their money, even if you're homeless. They hold one charity event a year n claim to b about community. But yet, they can watch a member of their community fall, n proceed to burden them even more financially by sending a 4000.00 bill every month with a 20.00 late fee added every month. I should mention, joining this class is what contributed to my financial problems. As they convince you that u can not proceed in class without certain equipment, or u need certain equipment, or they're changing the uniform. They want u to buy, buy, buy every month there's something else u have to have for class. If u r not fully buying whatever n whenever they tell u, than u can't participate in class. They help u get into a finacial hole, but don't help u get out. I'm not asking for charity, I'm not even asking for food that I have little of to feed my family. I have no school stuff for my middle schooler, n they want me to pay a now over 4000.00 bill eventhough I've been trying to get out of this contract since April. It just goes to show, business is business, when it comes to money. Even to the people that claim to b there for community. I would just say, if your gonna join any Martial Arts, don't sign a contract, because they will not let u out of it unless your dying, n that's questionable.

There is a lot of detail on form which takes the long view on progress. This long view is a different approach than the sport based curriculum I've seen at karate in the past. My son, 9, is active and athletic. Every year, we have been sending him for different sport…read moreactivities, such as baseball, soccer, basketball, swimming, ... Most of the time, he was passive about the training. I've never thought Wushu is "his thing" until one day he visited CMAA. He has been so dedicated to the sport that he doesn't want to miss any training - very much proactive. As the result, he has excelled well and won gold medals in recent regional and national competitions. I have been trying to figure out the "hooks." First of all, the amazing coach. Lucas is the owner and instructor. He's Caucasian, but he knows Chinese martial arts no less than Chines athletes. He studied in China for a few years and is able to read the Kong Fu code book that most Chinese could not even comprehend. Above all, he knows how to teach. He motivates not pushing. He paces each student's progress based on individual readiness. He not only teaches moves, but ethics and discipline. My son constantly paraphrases the words Lucas uses, like "early is on-time, on-time is late, and late is unacceptable...""virtuosity is doing common things uncommonly well..." The training facility is new (a year and half) and tastefully decorated. The schedule is flexible and you can find proper time slots easier than many other schools. The students there are also amazing. My son is friend with almost every student; some of them are years older. In class, they help each other. After school, they are buddies. Considering after almost a year training at CMAA, my son is still so crazy about Wushu, Lucas must be doing something right!

Specifically, my balance and coordination have improved allowing me to do other sports with more confidence and success. My other sports include cycling and skiing. In addition, the Qigong practice helps me with calmness, clear thinking and patience as I go through each day. If it feels WRONG IT IS!!@....with absolutely zero sense of community in a studio that feels like you are in a parking garage above a bar then this is the place for you....AND THE ONLY PLACE THAT I HAVE EVER PRACTICED THAT USES THE COMMAND ...EXALT ALOT .!!! ...Health and wellness is not what this place is about at all...more like a smug motley click of exercise junkies in some competition ....and I had gone there once when she first opened and it was the same then ...the only reason I just spent the entire winter and idk 650d going there was too try and heal from very severe trauma I had experienced...which REAL YOGA is very helpful with and to sweat...detox...but only hurt my body from Ego based classes and a nasty bacterial infection from the filthy floor that in 5 months of attending I only saw a cleaning service in the locker room once and never did I see the floor being cleaned and I went to back to back classes many many times...and no cleaning occurred...I spent 100d on a new mat there which I threw out after it being on the filthy floors and the sweat of the entire population of the place in it !!! And still have not healed from the bacterial infection I acquired there and its been well over a month and alot of Epsom salt bathes. Like most westernized things Yoga has been reduced to a narcissistic money grab..a big business....and I have come to the conclusion that being in a crowded hot oxygen deprived DIRTY room wearing some overpriced recycled polyester yoga outfit ie plastic on a expensive mat made of who knows what ??listening to some guru wanna be give commands IS NOT A HEALTHY CHOICE! And its not just this place ...most of them...this was just the worst example I ever experienced.... you vote with your TIME and MONEY..keeping mine and back to common sense and the best things in life are free...walking and getting fresh air ...stretching... feeding my mind.. body and spirit..not depleting it ....EXALTING THE LORD NOT SOME FREAK THAT THINKS THEY HAVE BECOME SOME DEMI GOD ...and if the saying cleanliness is next to Godliness is true well ...thus place is the anti Christ!

Our family started taking taekwondo with another studio as it was offered through an after school…read moreprogram. The contract and costs were very expensive and something we were reluctant to agree to. There was pressure from the studio staff along with incentive dates to commit and sign a contract. We signed up and locked into expensive pricing. After only a few weeks of attending, I began researching alternatives to the class as it felt like an overpriced dance party. It didn't feel like a martial arts class. It felt like a way to run kids out of energy. We wanted the class to teach our kids skills in a more traditional setting. I found the pentjak karate club online and through word of mouth discovered they offered free trial classes. We took advantage of the karate clubs free classes and gave our child the opportunity to choose for themselves between the two. The choice was easy for them and a relief to me as the overstimulating environment at taekwondo was a lot to take in. The pentjak studio in Stillwater is nothing like the cookie cutter taekwondo and karate classes offered throughout the capital region. The club is excellent and it feels like a family run business with an owner who cares. Jim loves his students, treats everyone like family and it shows. The Instructors, once students themselves, grew to love the program and pushed themselves to become more. They've created a kind, compassionate and very real group of respected teachers. Most instuctors have other family members also in the program which is really awesome to see and it's contagious! Together this group under Jim's direction have crafted a school that fits all ages and types of children. We went from having one child enrolled to now all four. They're different ages with different personaliites who have different needs. The team at pentjak studio give their best to make sure each child is getting the most out of each class. They don't guilt you when you can't make it to a class because life happens, there are no contracts, there isn't a sales pitch or a ton of expensive gear to buy and the pricing is extremely fair, reasonable and affordable. I'm happy we found the studio so we could offer this learning experience to all of our children. The school has that sort of hometown feeling which compliments the appeal of the surrounding areas. If you're looking for a class that makes you feel like family and also teaches you endurance, discipline and confidence this will be a good fit for you. The free classes are an amazing way to try it out and see if your child or even yourself likes the program. Don't be surprised if you find yourself wanting to take the adult classes after watching how much fun it is for the kids. I think all the parents would agree you won't be disappointed.
