I strongly recommend reading my review before choosing to work with Jeff -specifically if you are a first-time homebuyer. The purpose of writing this review is to caution anyone from working with Jeff. During escrow, we felt very rushed by him. He would send us documents at 3:00pm only to request it be signed by the end of the evening. As two working professionals, we felt this was an insufficient time to research what the documents and forms meant. When we voiced our concerns, we kept being met with "Oh, it's not actually due tonight." This continued to cause unnecessary stress and anxiety through the entire escrow process. Specifically, our frustration was exacerbated by the fact that we found out Jeff went on vacation during this time, and likely was trying to get our documents done before his vacation. Had he been forthcoming about this from the beginning, we would have been more than accommodating. We are firm believers in a work/life balance and would have completely understood if we had received a message saying, "Hey, you guys are right on track and you have plenty of time to get these documents in. I did want to give you a heads up that I will be leaving at the end of the week for a vacation, and it would be helpful on my end for you to look over these documents before I leave. That way I can help you with any questions." However, we received messages about how things "must be signed by end of day," when in fact that wasn't true. This deceit left us with a bad taste in our mouth. In hindsight, we wish we would have just bit the bullet and found a different lender, but we worried we were too far into the process. Then, toward the end of escrow, we found out he underestimated many of the costs that factored into our mortgage. We told him from the beginning that we only wanted to move forward with a mortgage that was $X or less. He said this was possible. However, once all of the contingencies were removed, he let us know the final numbers were over $X. I understand that sometimes things change, but the difference was a 10% increase. For us, that was a staggering amount and forced us to really reevaluate our lifestyle and our budget. Early on in the process, he walked me through the numbers and he mentioned that they would change but only about a 2-3% difference. That is far less than 10% - at least to us and our incomes. While he apologized for this, we felt like this was just another deceit to get our loan. At that point though, we were in too deep and continued forward. Our experience with Jeff has only gotten worse after escrow. In January, we received a statement from Jeff letting us know that we had a shortage of hundreds of dollars in our impound account. As a result, our mortgage was increasing by another 2%. That put us at 12% over what we initially agreed was our limit. The statement had no explanation as to why our mortgage payment was increasing. I emailed Jeff and asked, "Could you please walk us through exactly why this is occurring? The statement didn't provide any additional information. We appreciate your transparency and guidance." Jeff then replied and said, "We are asking servicing to re-review your scenario as property taxes have not been changed by the county. This audit of your account seems premature." At this point, we were defeated. This was another scenario where I became very concerned with our services through Jeff and Guaranteed Rate. Had I not inquired about this, we would have just been added to this additional payment when no additional payment was required yet. It was extremely disconcerting to see that we received a statement from Jeff and yet he could not tell us what the statement was referencing. To this day, it seems incomprehensible to me. I expressed my frustration with Jeff to which I received a lot of rhetoric along the lines of, "I'm fighting this for you." This only further frustrated me as he tends to say this a lot without actually backing anything up. Again and again, we just feel swindled by him. Instead of attempting to work this out with me (I promise I was as respectful as possible), I received a phone call from a new Guaranteed Rate agent. Jeff had requested that he no longer be our contact person and the agent that called was now taking over our loan. We were honest from our earliest interactions that we needed our hands held through this. I repeatedly wrote and spoke honest, private feedback to Jeff in the hopes that this would improve. Then, we dealt with this final scenario only to be followed up by a phone call saying that Jeff was no longer our contact person. I felt like I was being pawned off for being too difficult. This loan encompasses my life savings, so understandably, I'm going to keep a watchful eye on it - especially when the mortgage is 12% more than I was originally told it would be. Instead of this being an educational time in my life, I've just felt dumb and like I have been a nuisance to Jeff. Steer clear. read more
