Fantastic experience from start to finish. Absolutely exceptional. Our friends have a Lubin so when we saw it at the silent auction, we thought we'd give it a shot. More of an old fashioned get to know you process with phone calls. We spoke with Kempton for all of that. He was attentive and helpful with juggling our schedules. Brett worked so well with our kids. He is perceptive and masterful. Our session was chaotic but he didn't miss a beat. The unveiling was super cool. We walked into the studio to see our painting on the easel in all of its glory. I had the same experience with this business as many others who are commenting that when you have a voucher you paid for as part of a charity auction, you aren't a priority. I paid for a voucher worth 2k at a recent charity event. When I called to schedule, the woman I spoke with (I assume she is the office manager) could not have been ruder. When I mentioned what I was looking for - a portrait of our family dog, she told me they don't do pet portraits. She then told me they used to do animals, but no longer do them. Below is dog portrait on the Lubin site, which I exhaustively looked through prior to buying the voucher at auction. I then asked her if she could show me where the policy was listed online and she got irritated and said, "if you can't find it, I don't know what to tell you." Following that comment, I asked to speak to one of the artists to see if they would make an exception and she offered to connect me with him in mid-July, which at the time was three months away. I was literally taken aback by the treatment and that she would not work to find 10 minutes for a call with Mr. Lubin so that I could understand a bit more about the policy, which is nowhere to be found online. When I asked her why they changed the policy, (which again is not on their website) she said she didn't know. I also have to laugh because there are many reviews on here and on Google about the rude staff - one customer below described her poor experience, and she actually had portraits of her dogs done. I finally just chalked the whole experience up to making a very nice donation to the charity but have encouraged them to not work with Lubin again. If this business does not want to talk to customers who have vouchers with respect, then they should not donate vouchers to local charities. Additionally, they really need to make their policies clear and not false advertise. Very poor experience. Do not recommend. read more

Brett was accommodating to my work schedule and managed to get one of the best photo shoots I've experienced- this included a pet and he was prepared and had her looking at the camera perfectly in upwards of 10 shots that all could've been painted. The quality of the painting is of museum caliber - impeccable. I was skeptical when his assistant said he was in the business of creating heirlooms on the initial call, and I'm glad I continued through the process. This is the second Lubin certificate we've received from Pohanka Lexus over the years. The first one I was skeptical about (rightly so), so I let it expire, but this time I contacted Lubin to see if they would do a portrait of our dogs, which they did. The experience was fine and actually seemed above and beyond since working with two wiggly dogs is not easy! However, the part that is concerning is how Brett treated me when I opted to go with the 11"x14" that was covered by the $2k gift certificate. His cheery demeanor immediately changed. He rudely shoved a clipboard in my face, told me to sign it, then sat down, practically ignored me and told me to "take care" with a pissed off tone. No escort out, no "thank you" as before. Their portrait process requires 3 visits to their creepy studio: 1) Portrait session, 2) Choosing the photo and size (pressure to spend thousands more $$), 3) Pick-up. I spent a total of 6 hours on the road for this process. They also require that all family members are present for each session! The reasoning for this that was explained to me was that "all financial decision makers should be present, it's the studio policy." Translation: 'You obviously can't make large financial decisions with out your husband.' Right. When I picked up the portrait Brett was cordial but he asked me to fill out a survey in front of him. I was not honest on the survey as to avoid confrontation. Another awkward and rude practice. I surely hope Pohanka is not actually spending $2k for an 11x14" unframed portrait from Lubin. Way overpriced in my opinion. A session with another photographer would cost far less and the customer would surely walk away with many awesome digital photos rather than one physical portrait. In my experience(s) Pohanka Lexus is AMAZING and should not be associating with Lubin Portrait Studio. ...I have also been to charity events where Lubin gift certificates have been up for auction. I would not feel very good if I bid good money for one other than giving to charity. read more

We (husband and I) worked with Mr. Brett Layne for our portrait as an engaged couple this past summer. We wanted a piece to display at our winter wedding, and Mr. Layne's work is STUNNING. Brett was professional, kind, timely, and very considerate of our requests and worked with us closely to make sure we loved every detail of our photos before the final painting was started. We met with Mr. Layne over the phone prior to our photo appointment, then we went for an hour photo session. During which, Mr. Layne was patient and was extremely calm as he walked us through poses and adjusted lighting. We went back for a second session to review the photos before he began his work, and during which, he was attentive to every detail as he walked us through the painting options (sizes, frames, textures/finish, etc.). At our final session for the painting reveal, we were in AWE of his work and could not wait to show our friends and family! I would say as a customer, do some research on their website before you go for sessions and have an idea what you would like to have. It truly helps the process move smoothly and efficiently. Mr. Layne has also worked with military personnel in the past, so we were extremely excited to incorporate the military culture in our painting (e.g., saber). 2 stars overall but 5 * for the portrait quality. Got a gift certificate from the car dealership, setup and appointment for pictures, went there and got the pictures done, setup another day to see the projected pictures, all good till now, when I denied any upgrade other than what was covered in the gift certificate, Brad turned 180 degree and started pressurizing us for upgrade and his professionalism disappeared. Actually, he started behaving weird, not agreed to pickup on any day rather was asking me to take another appointment and that's also between 9-4 on weekdays only when we work too. Though i collected the portrait on a weekday around noon which took not even two minutes but the day of projection and selection was forgetful. Though I think the $2500 for a 11 by 14 portrait is quite a lot and they got their money anyway, still so much hue and cry. Will not go there again in life and NOT recommended. read more

Absolutely amazing experience. I won a gift certificate at auction to go here, and was blown away by the professionalism. Brett is amazing, and I could not ask for better service. Although the gift certificate does cover an entire portrait, we upgraded the package and were glad we did. We also got all the digitals from an hour long photo session. AVOID. Booked an appointment 6 months ago and they called one hour before scheduled time saying that photographer 'can't make it'. I asked what the issue was and if they were sick but kept on saying he can't make it. It was very unprofessional. Had to keep kids out of school, take a day off work, hair makeup was done and all they could say was at least we caught you before you left! They offered to reschedule but wouldn't trust them again! He was fine to cancel it and said this experience was not for everyone. I think I was treated like that since I had a voucher. It was very insulting. read more

I had a blast during my photo shoot and Mr. Lubin seemed to be humble and professional. After I returned to view my overpriced photos, I quickly realized I was dealing with an arrogant photographer interested in making money and not realizing his tone and demeanor could be perceived as unprofessional. I showed my photo (gift) to several family and friends and everyone thought it looked like a photo from the eighties. I would not recommend to anyone. I used another photographer with less experience and my photos were stunning! To the studio: I have several pieces of beautiful original art displayed in my home! I purchased from an art gallery in Tysons Corner and LOVE the customer service from the gallery! Consider visiting, you are never too OLD to learn. read more

I was also taken aback by the exorbitant price for portrait packages that were presented to us, which left us feeling deceived and disappointed, though his portraits were impressive. This is long over due, but never too late to help someone who is thinking of visiting this place. We visited this place twice, both times when we bought a vehicle, the dealer gave us the $2000 voucher. The first time we worked with Jeff Lubin himself, and the second, it was Brett Layne, who, we were informed that he took over the business. Post our photo session, and then the viewing is when we read the reviews on this business & Jeff. The photo session was fine, except that we felt it was rushed & he was in a hurry, and in fact, Jeff fell off the table while trying to taking a shot. And we only later realized during our viewing that he didn't even alert me to adjust my suit jacket sleeves, etc. which didn't look very presentable in the picture. Specifically about the viewing - At a point when Jeff realized that we wouldn't upgrade to a larger portrait with somewhat expensive framing, his tone & attitude changed, and he felt like he had to quickly wrap up the session, which he did. I'm sure customers can be treated better, whether they pay you $2000 or $20,000 for the same amount of time. Now about Brett Layne - Brett is very much like Jeff, except that his emotions are much extreme than Jeff. He was super friendly at the photo shoot session, and super aggressive & unprofessional during the viewing session. He did read or learn about our first visit & whether we upgraded or not. What he didn't know was why we weren't thrilled about the first go around. In fact, when we came for the viewing session with Brett, we brought our first portrait & wanted to ask for a larger size of that portrait, request him to fix the folded sleeves, have it framed. This is in addition to Brett's session & we were absolutely thinking of getting a larger portrait & have it framed. We weren't given any privacy or time to discuss (even if it were in the studio), felt like we were dealing with a very pushy & ill mannered salesman. He even went to the extent of saying, "You know how this goes...just sign here & we'll be done with it", and he put the document in front of us to sign. I called the dealership's General Manager & provided this feedback. I'm certain there would be folks who appreciate their work, but again, I've read many reviews for this business where many complained about poor service. We received a gift certificate from a friend for a portrait. We met with Jeff and felt comfortable about the experience. The photo shoot was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, when we met to choose which photo to use, we were only shown about eight poses to choose from. We also felt pressured to apply our certificate to a larger picture, which we did not want. We also did not get to see the picture after he doctored it and before it went to final printing. While my husband looks terrific, I look lifeless. I have shown it to several friends, as well as a picture I had a neighbor take of us later that same day. They are stunned. Several people say I should replace it with the photo my neighbor took. Glad we only paid for the frame. read more

We bid on a $1000 gift certificate to Lubin Portraits at a charity event. The picture session was fine (though he is a bit tense with active children) and we got some great pics. Then after picking out our favorite pic, he let us know that $1000 didn't cover anything that he sold, We would need to add AT LEAST 2 thousand dollars to get a portrait and of course it would need to be framed by him (adding several hundred dollars). He didn't even know of the charity where I got the certificate; and clearly this was a business scam. He gets you in the door, shows you the pretty pics, takes hours of your day and then you find out this will cost thousands. Like a fool, I got the portrait. It is very pretty, but people generally pass by it in my house and focus on some other beautiful portraits that cost a fraction of Lubin's cost. When I called my friend to complain about this situation, she told me that she had the same exact experience with this man. She won a certificate at a different charity event and ended up feeling just as tricked and manipulated as I did! I'm shocked that he gets away with this! read more

We really enjoy Jeff. We do not know him personally, an important disclosure for a fail safe review, as most are aware :) We have used Jeff a few times for our newborn photos. He is professional and precise. You should be aware that he expects you to know what pose you envision before your appointment. He will expect you to go in for a consultation and do your homework. He is an artist. He is not inexpensive. The appointment time is about an hour, depending on his availability. Try to review his website before your visit so you know what to expect. During his consultation, he will ask you what you expect. You should have your outfit/s chosen and prepared. It was easiest for us to have our makeup and hair prepared at home, then dress in the dressing area on site. He has limited outfits available for small children, and a few very nice props for your portrait, which you may or may not need. When your portrait is special, choose Jeff for your potrait investment. We will be returning! read more
