I've moved around a lot, and after recently relocating to San Diego, I found this office through Groupon because my dental insurance hadn't transferred yet. Sometimes when you use a Groupon, you worry that you might be treated differently, but that couldn't have been further from my experience here. From the woman who took my X-rays, to the dental hygienist, to the dentist himself, and even the receptionist, every single person was incredibly kind, personable, and welcoming. They treated me like I'd been a patient for years. I felt comfortable from the moment I walked in. Everyone was knowledgeable, gentle, and took the time to explain everything they were doing. They also gave me helpful advice on ways I can improve my dental health, which I really appreciated. I left feeling incredibly clean, confident, and reassured that my oral health is in great hands. This was genuinely the best dental visit I've ever had, and that's something I never thought I'd say. I'll absolutely be coming back and making this my regular dentist. I have been coming here over 3 years. I'm Asian new in town and have try 3-4 different dentist in the US so far I never impressed with any of them. They all did a good job but never outstanding. I have high standards because of my aunt is a dentist in Thailand and I got used to with her treatment. Especially her deep clean. I tried Dr Jeff because of the yelp deal a while ago. And after that I never want to go elsewhere. He and his hygiene dentist have a very high standards and want to make sure they really cleaning it out. I wish I remembered her name. I have try 1 other lady she also really good. About Dr Jeff he really pay attention and take time to explain what happened, what case it and how to fix it and how to prevent it. Etc. The price hmmmm you got what you pay for. Compare with the results I'd say it's inexpensive. But it quite expensive in term of money spent. The front desk also good. She's on top of things. Only cons that I can think of. If you want to reach them it not that easy. I gave up when I tried to change my appt. So I learn to keep it. While the staff initially seemed friendly in helping me setup my appointment. I received a call 20 business days later saying the dentist will be now out of town that week. No, apology no compensation of any sort was offered. I can understand emergencies but cancelling after 20 days have lapsed . This only shows how unprofessional Jeff Muehl and this office is and the lack of respect for that they have for his patients. This would've been my first appointment and I don't plan on using you now or in the future. People have schedules that are not easily set. This practice is by far the best I have been to in all of my years. Dr. Muehl is very friendly and sweet, also highly intelligent and extremely thorough with his exams. His staff is top notch. The dental hygienist (Elise? or Evelyn? I'm good with faces but not so good with names!) is AMAZING. I just had my second cleaning by her today. She takes her time, is gentle, and does an overall fantastic job. I'm not the best patient- I get really uncomfortable with someone getting that close to my face and placing sharp tools in my mouth! Even though I've never had problems with my teeth and get regular cleanings, I'm very anxious the entire time - but they are patient with me and my awkwardness! Best team, and I highly recommend. Dr. Muel and his staff are a HUGE blessing for me! Previously I went to a dentist who told me that I had 4 broken teeth that would cost me over $6000 in work! One of those broken teeth was killing me so I decided to get a 2nd opinion. I debated going to Mexico to get it fixed. I am so happy that I found Dr. Muel to get a 2nd opinion. First, Dr. Muel sat me down and showed me all of my teeth. I have ONE broken tooth (not FOUR!). He showed exactly how it broke and came up with a treatment plan. He also showed me what he looks for in the exam and how to prevent irreparable damage. Second, the Hygienist, Rosario, did an amazing job and gave me a ton of information. Both Dr. Muel and Rosario were amazing and were honest and transparent. Elyse coordinated the payment information and appointments and was so kind and helpful. I wasn't sure if I should get dental insurance and she guided me the whole way to make my decision. When I came in for my appointments to get my crown, I met Franny who is probably the funniest and sweetest person I've met. Both Dr. Muel and Franny were kind, gentle and informative. Since I never had any major work done on my teeth I was SO nervous but both talked to me the entire time guided me through what they were doing too. This is not at all what I expected with dental work! Dr. Muel himself is very personable and easy to talk to. He addressed ALL of my concerns. I originally found Dr. Muel on Groupon and got a great deal for a cleaning and exam. I ended up paying cash for my crown at a very reasonable price. Incredible experience with Dr. Muehl! Elise works with you to get you an appointment time that works for your schedule, and having email as a contact option is really helpful for those who are at work and can't answer their cell. I needed a filling replaced, and Dr. Muehl had been recommended to me by a family member. The first thing you notice when you walk in is that it doesn't feel AT ALL like a dental office. Very peaceful, soothing environment without the usual glaring fluorescent lights. They even have a water sculpture, so you hear the gentle sound of flowing water in the background as you're treated. I'm blanking on the dental assistant's name, but she is so down-to-earth and funny and sweet. Dr. Muehl was very personable and speaks quietly and works very gently, so you never feel jarred or uncomfortable. He was able to do my x-rays, exam, and replacement within the span of about an hour. I always require more anesthetic than the average person to numb up, and Dr. Muehl took it in stride with no issues - in fact, he was very knowledgeable about where to inject the anesthetic for my particular nerve location. He explained to me that for some people (like me) the nerve is simply located a little higher up, so he needed to adjust the injection. Every time he did something, he let me know what to expect before he did it - how it might feel, why he was doing it, etc. I don't have dental insurance, and felt that the price was reasonable for the procedure, especially since it was done so well and with zero pain. At the end of the appointment, Elise even let me know about their discounted Groupon for dental cleanings, and gave me 10% off for paying in cash. I felt very comfortable during the whole visit, and will definitely be going back again! read more

Moreover, he is gentle and makes the experience feel more comfortable because he's concerned that you are not hurting. His staff is warm and pleasent which makes you want to engage with them. I went to Dr. Muehl once about six months ago, on a recommendation from a coworker. I was not impressed to say the least. He was very friendly and professional, but you don't actually spend much time with the dentist for a routine cleaning. His staff seemed like they had just started that week. I had to get x-rays done (even though I explained I could get copies from my previous dentist) and the hygienist had to keep doing them over, because she didn't get the picture properly taken. This was very frustrating as it took at least twice as long as it should have and was very uncomfortable. She finally told me it was the first time she had ever used the new machine. The hygienist who did my cleaning was equally as bad. I found out she was filling in for someone on maternity leave. I was also turned off by the up-selling environment. I was told I should come in every four months instead of every six, since I hadn't been flossing regularly (even though my insurance would only cover 2x/year). Then, I was pressured to go ahead and book my next appointment (which I refused) and book an appointment to get a cosmetic repair made to a tooth (which after seeing the price quote, I also refused). So, all in all a pretty frustrating experience. But I finally made it out of there with clean teeth, right? However, a couple of weeks later I received an overbill for the expenses my insurance didn't cover (although there was no mention of this when I was there). I was rather surprised since they accepted my insurance for the services I had. This was just icing on the cake for a poor experience. It is about time to have another check-up, but I'll be looking for another dentist... read more

It's unfortunate that a patient had a bad experience with Dr. Muehl's office because of a one-time temporary employee. I myself am a hygienist, along with my mother, and Dr. Muehl is, hands down, the BEST dentist I have ever been treated by. Growing up, I saw many dentists as my mother has been in the dental field for over 20 years, but once we found Dr. Muehl, we stopped going to anyone else. He is extremely gentle, and a complete perfectionist and I've never had any problems with any work that he has done. He goes above and beyond what is expected and I would trust my nearest and dearest in his hands. He is brilliant, highly ethical, and just an all-around good man. I can't say enough great things about him! His assistant Nes is also a delight. Jennifer, his regular hygienist, has been with him for a long time and was my hygienist before my mom started cleaning my teeth. She is highly skilled and fantastic at what she does. Look no further. As good as Dentist as you will ever find. I travel from Oceanside to see him. Learned about him from an acquaintance who owns & operates a dental laboratory. Told him I was looking for a new Dentist. He told me that Dr. Muehl was the only Dentist in the county he would recommend. Due to distance have tried some other Dentists over the years and have been sorry. I consider him my "Dentist For Life" and happy to travel the extra miles for superior dental care. In addition, my Mother who will 91 this year, had been happily going to the same dentist for over 40 years until he retired. She now goes to Dr. Muehl and is extremely happy. Mouth Spa! Teeth Spa! Dental Spa! However you want to put it, this is the place! When you walk in the office you dont have that nasty dental smell. I think this is a big perk in keeping with the "SPA" theme (thats what I have deemed his practice to be). The walls arent stark white, pink or peach. They have a natural look and feel plus you feel relaxed like you would a spa. Water fall, fruit and a pitcher of water on a display by the door... You ahve to see this place! I have LOADS of anxiety when going to the dentist. I literally woudnt go unless there was a problem. After searching San Diego over the past 15 years, and seeing more than 22 dentists (yes thats right) I have found the MASTER of all Dentists! Dr. Muehl and his staff walk you through the process so that there isnt any anxiety. Funny thing, I was referred to him by several co-workers and a maxillofacial dentist who said he is a master at dentistry! Well, Dr. Muehl isnt the only "Master" his staff is as well! Friendly, soft spoken, warm, knowledgeable... I cant say enough about his practice. I have been going to Dr. Muehl for a few years now, and I think that says alot to those who are also scared or have anxiety with going to the dentist. Dr. Muehl is the best in the business! He just seems to know exactly what needs to be done in order to get the best final product. He has done some very extensive dental cosmetic work for me in the past. I had a bike accident that rendered my two front teeth chipped to the gum line. Somehow Doc Muehl was able to fit veneers on there and for ten years I have been pain free and the results are perfect and I mean PERFECT. My wife still does not know which of my teeth are veneers and I even forget sometimes myself. Now that is quality work that is worth any price! Also the office is AAA and the staff is over top - Jennifer (dental hygienist) and Nes (cosmetic assistant) are so sweet and they really make you feel so welcome! You get what you pay for in every business and Cosmetic dentistry is no exception. Save yourself the trouble and see the good Doctor! On the Dental Hygienist front: Jennifer is the greatest. At my age, I've had experience with quite a few dentists but Jeff is the best. He is extremely competent and caring as is the whole staff. Jennifer has moved away, she was also the best but Mary is also very good (too soon to say 'the best'), and Ness is wonderful. They are in their new office now - 11199 Sorrento Valley Rd. (right near the Coaster station and J&W Lumber) which is nicer than the old office and has easier access. As an example of his skill, Jeff numbed my mouth for a crown before I even realized he'd injected me - never felt the needle at all. I had a filling right at my gumline last month with no novacaine at all. He's that good. read more

Dr Muehl and his staff are great! Nice location, nice office, and friendly staff. I got there exactly @ our appointment time and was immediately taken back to begin the appointment. Another dentist told us that my 14 year old daughter needed a root canal. Seemed a bit much so we sought a second opinion.....some sensitive toothpaste and mouthwash solved the problem in just a few weeks!!! Had lots of work done on myself and they are very aware that they are "working" on a human that feels pain and take care not to inflict more than what inherently comes with dentistry. At my age, I cannot begin to count the number of Dentist I have had throughout my life. I have had some outstanding Dentist and some who were not so good. Dr, Muehl is bar none, one of the best I have ever had and his office is simply exceptional. It begins with Elise who really runs the office. She is always pleasant and wonderful to speak to and she knows insurance companies and coverage better than anyone I have ever met. What is most important to me is that when she gives you her word that something will be done, she keeps her word and it is done typically before the date or time she promised. Then there is the office itself. It is spotless. It is clean and you feel comfortable having work done on you in their dental environment. Finally, there is Dr. Muehl. He is an extremely knowledgeable Dentist who invests money back into his practice. His dental equipment is new, modern and saves a tremendous amount of time. He takes the time to explain completely what is happening with your guns and teeth so you understand why and how your treatment will occur. Moreover, he has a gentle hand. Having work done with him is never nearly as painful as some other dentist I have had. Dr, Muehl is a perfectionist, which for my money, is the only type of Dentist I want working on my mouth. I recently moved to San Diego and as an unemployed college grad it had been about 5 years since I had seen a dentist. I was terrified of finding a new dentist because I had heard stories from friends about their experiences with new dentists. One friend, who always maintained her dental checkups, had her new dentist tell her she had sixteen cavities! So when I saw a Groupon for an exam, cleaning, and x-rays with Dr. Muehl, I read his reviews here on Yelp and went for it. I'm so glad I did! I had a great experience with every person I encountered, from the receptionist, to the doctor himself. The hygienist who cleaned my teeth was very friendly and helped relieve my anxiety about the condition of my teeth and gums after 5 years of no dental insurance. The assistant Robin was also super-friendly and we chatted amiably while she positioned the state of the art X-ray equipment. Dr. Muehl was so awesome! He showed me my X-rays and explained that I did need a couple fillings due to an old filling that had fallen out which allowed decay to start back in to that tooth and the one next to it. He was also very understanding about my unemployment/uninsured situation. He let me know that the sooner I had the fillings done the better, but he didn't pressure me to make another appointment. He pointed out a few other issues that needed to be addressed, but said that they could probably wait until I had dental insurance to tackle them. After my appointment his receptionist provided me with a price for the two fillings, so that I knew exactly what to expect if I decided to go ahead and pay to have them filled. Is knowledgeable but difficult to reach, I went in for a visit and did not hear back for weeks and had to reach out to contact his office. He will never contact you directly and is unwilling to work with patients. If you don't need much work done, or have an excess of money he may be for you. Although I'm in Northern California now and can no longer see Dr. Muehl, I thought it was worth mentioning the rave I got today. My orthodontist pointed out what he thought was a crack in my tooth or crown and I let him know it was a partial crown. He was completely blown away by the work and said it was the best partial crown he had ever seen. He asked who did it because it was so well done. It is nearly impossible to tell the magic Dr. M pulled off. It was a true testament to his work and I wished he was still my dentist! I may be back for the big stuff. :) read more

Dr. Muesli is a great dentist. I highly recommend him. He was very thorough on my first visit and explained everything to me very well. I returned for a procedure and he continued on that visit to be very patient and helpful and answer all of my questions. I am comfortable with him and the procedure went very well. Today, I had a dental emergency pop up (loose crown on a different tooth). I called the office and they were able to squeeze me in between patients. They brought me right in, the doctor saw me quickly. It took about 15 minutes for him to get the crown popped off, cleaned up, and glued back on. This is a tooth that he had not previously worked on. I know the crown on this tooth won't last forever, but at least this dentist didn't insist I get a brand new one today and spend $3K. He actually didn't even suggest that..... It was a cheap and easy morning for me!!! read more

I have been having a lot work done with Dr. Muehl. He is the BEST dentist I ever had. I went to a few other dentists in the UTC area before and did not have a good experience. The previous dentists were all about how much money they can get out of me. Dr Muehl on the other hand is very professional and I really do feel that he is looking out for the best for me, he is not pushy in his treatment, he lays out the options first and takes care of what is needed first and tries to accomodate what works best for me. He is very patient and gentle in his work. Also friendly and it feels like home in his office. I would definitely highly recommend him. The office staff is great, it feels like family.
