I didn't get the impression that the previous vet we had gone to loved cats, whereas at Clarksburg Animal Hospital, they do :) We mostly see Dr. Greta, but have also seen Dr. Christy once or twice as well. They always run on time, spend ample time with us (as in, they're never in a rush to go to the next appt, so we can ask all the questions we like), and Dr. Greta always seems to remember our babies' medical history. She must record good notes as well in the medical records, because one time recently, Dr. Greta wasn't in, and we saw Dr. Christy, and Dr. Christy knew exactly what was going on. It's easy to get appointments as well - when it seems like we need to get in urgently, we've always been able to get in the same day... within a few hours. And finally, the office is also very efficient. When we need medical records to be submitted to insurance, they always send them ultra-quickly, which certainly helps with the insurance reimbursements. And it's a nice touch when we have to leave the babies there for dental cleanings, they text us when the procedure is beginning along with a photo of our kitties. We highly recommend Clarksburg Animal Hospital!

When I discovered this, I tried using the hydrogen peroxide/water mixture squirted down his throat, to get him to vomit up the raisins. That wasn't successful, so I started calling emergency vet services. I called poison control, after being unsuccessful in securing help from VRA or Blue Pearl, which are listed as having emergency vets on call. The poison control lady mentioned Clarksburg Animal Hospital, so I called. They said to bring him right in. Time is of the essense in poisoning cases. Raisins harm the dog's kidneys. He was taken right in back, given something to make him throw up, where he gave up 10 raisins, and about an hour later, he was discharged. We went back for 2 more blood work checks, after the weekend,to make sure his kidneys were getting back to normal. Very glad they were available. Toby Mattingly

I cannot recommend this place enough…read more We currently have a 6 year old suspected Siberian cat. He has been healthy all his life. He started coughing and we scheduled a wellness check but turned out to be a sick visit and they ran tests and considered all possibilities and proposed all possible diagnosis. I thought it was a quick visit but it ended up being 2 hours long. We then got referred to an emergency Pet Hospital where our cat stayed overnight to get more testing and drugs and left with medication. We were crying! A week in, his condition improved. But along the way, we were both novices in administering the oral liquid syringe medication and asked them if NVA could help us and they agreed! It's great to know that they are accommodating. Then an emergency came up and we aren't nearby and my dad has to bring our cat to NVA just to administer the medication. My dad doesn't know how to administer the medication. NVA agreed to help on short notice and show my dad how to do it. Honestly, without NVA, we would be lost and confused on how to take care of our cat. They are thorough and caring for pets and it shows. Even when things were looking grim for us, it was great to know that NVA had our back.

    Debbie Deans DVM - Archie

Below is a review that I left elsewhere for Dr. Walcoff (owner of Bennett Creek Animal Hospital…read morewhere Dr. Deans works). There are numerous facts in this review regarding Dr. Deans and her behavior after her colleague, Dr. Felrice, discharged our pet in critical condition. I would have preferred to keep Archie's ordeal separate from my interactions with Dr. Deans as she was caring for our other pets and had been for some time but she insisted on protecting Dr. Felrice who had recently joined the practice. Please see other Yelp reviews for more Archie related photos. ********** This review is for Dr. Jeff Walcoff because he sent me an unnecessary, mean spirited, unprofessional letter but that letter motivated me to post public reviews (on Google, Yelp, and Facebook to name a few). Here is some background information. Dr. Walcoff's employee, Dr. Matthew Felrice, performed a scheduled cystotomy on our beloved pet, Archie. He discharged Archie hours later in critical condition with organs protruding from his abdominal incision (not the norm in veterinary medicine and unacceptable). Long story short, Archie died, Dr. Felrice hid behind his colleague, Dr. Debbie Deans (who was hellbent on protecting him), and he took no accountability whatsoever. I rightfully had many concerns and sent thoughtful emails specifically addressed to him regarding Archie, but every single time, Dr. Deans would reply. She also tried to "dumb down" what happened to Archie (e.g., "their guts just aren't made to keep working sometimes") even though she was there when I rushed him back inside and at that time she made a reference to "all this has been out of his body". She looked shocked and horrified, her speech was even halted when she first came outside to speak with me while Archie was in emergency surgery and Dr. Felrice was stuffing everything back inside of him. Dr. Deans made it a point to tell me of Dr. Felrice "He stayed late to help with Archie." Really? Welcome to the world of being a handsomely compensated clinician. Dr. Felrice also made it a point to tell me he stayed late when he came outside to speak with me a short time later. Really? News flash: staying late is not some banner of glory to be wielding. Work smarter, not longer. Guess who else was there late? Archie, poor sweet helpless Archie, the real victim of this horror story. But these vets did not care about Archie once the dust settled. They made sure to shift the focus to Dr. Felrice as if we should sing his praises. Lose that rehearsed script, Dr. Deans and Dr. Felrice. It is a ludicrous comment to say to a client after their pet has been botched. Two veterinarians with roughly 50 years combined experience know exactly what they are doing after a patient's surgical debacle and tragic death. Dr. Felrice never apologized for what Archie went through, never offered to answer any questions, never called - absolutely nothing. He never communicated with me at all, for months, until I made it clear that I was escalating the matter. Once I involved the State of MD, Dr. Walcoff refunded me for the cystotomy. Dr. Deans finally stopped communicating for Dr. Felrice and he magically found it within his heart to communicate with me and offer to answer questions. Unfortunately that went nowhere though because Dr. Felrice proved, once again, to be most difficult. He made it abundantly clear in an email that it was "regrettable" he did not check Archie's incision with me but "that is the job of the techs". Translation: "I do not care about what Archie went through and the fact that he needed to be rushed to Fairfax ER in the middle of the night where he ultimately died and I will never take accountability or apologize." Knowing history would repeat, I took action and to the MDA Veterinary Board is where I went with the facts of Archie's case. I am so grateful for the professionals there who strive to protect the integrity of veterinary medicine. I thank God they exist. Back to Dr. Walcoff, he had no business sending me any letter as if I needed a reminder that Bennett Creek was not a place I should ever again take our pets. Archie's trauma is forever etched in my memories and I can see his grave from our music room. Not a day goes by that I do not fondly remember Archie but I will always know that Dr. Felrice's mistakes are buried with our beloved pet...forever. Really and truly, I did not need a rude letter (which was laced with grammatical errors, by the way). You all have caused enough. Shame on you. But staying true to my authentic self, I turned that letter and this entire nightmare into something positive. And I will continue to do so as way to honor Archie's memory and protect other beloved pets.

The report can easily be found online by searching his name and MDA Vet Board, then a clickable link to "view disciplinary actions" becomes accessible. I am grateful to have achieved some measure of justice for our beloved Archie and to know he did not die in vain. A few weeks after I was refunded by Bennett Creek Animal Hospital, Matthew Felrice made it clear in an email to me that he still would not check a patient's surgical incision prior to discharge because "that is the job of the techs". It is disturbing how Felrice takes no accountability and chooses to flaunt his lack of remorse to a client who is grieving the avoidable tragic demise of a family pet. His behavior is cruel and outrageous. Sloppiness, laziness, apathy, and harassment have no place in veterinary medicine. I stood up to this menacing bully and now he has the public permanent black eye he so deserves. I hope and pray my efforts spare other helpless animals and their unsuspecting owners. May sweet Archie rest in eternal peace. His life mattered and he deserved much better care, professionalism, and compassion from Matthew Felrice. Basic decency is foreign to this individual. Please keep your pets away from him and avoid anyone or any practice that endorses and enables such a disgrace to veterinary medicine. (end of update, 12/23)

The new veterinarian appears uncomfortable around dogs and does not seem to handle them with confidence or compassion. What once felt like a trustworthy and caring practice now feels more focused on profit than pets. If your dog is healthy and easygoing, you might still receive decent treatment. However, if your dog has any health or behavioral challenges, be prepared for a lack of empathy and support. The new management does not uphold the same standard of care. *Update* I used to think I was receiving good care at this vet, but after recently switching to a new veterinary clinic, I realized the service here was actually quite basic. The level of support, communication, and genuine care I'm now receiving makes it clear how much was lacking at this practice. What's even more disappointing is that the new vet provides significantly better care--and at a much more affordable price. It's frustrating to look back and realize I was overpaying for subpar service. I've lowered my rating because I no longer believe this clinic offers the quality or value pet owners should expect. I wouldn't recommend this vet to anyone looking for attentive, informative, and compassionate care.
