They also have an employee that talks to you when you enter to make sure you go to the correct line. I like that because it helps prevent people from waiting in the wrong line and wasting their time. The employees I've encountered over the last few years have all been pleasant and helpful. My only issue is I still feel they need to have more windows opened, but the lines seem to move a bit faster than in years past.

I was told they could not accept the POA because my father is not an Alabama resident, which completely defeats the purpose of having a POA in the first place. What makes this even more frustrating is that I went to the main Revenue Office at the Birmingham Courthouse afterward, and they had no issue whatsoever accepting the exact same POA and were able to register my vehicle without a problem. The Hoover office was not willing to help find a solution or provide any useful guidance. It was an unnecessarily frustrating experience and a huge waste of time. If you are dealing with a registration involving a POA, I would recommend going to the Birmingham Courthouse instead.

I had to return the following day with an additional proof of residence so that I could get the…read morestar on my license. Examiner Woods had told me some helpful information which was that if you bring back the additional document within 24 hours of the initial application for a new license, then you will not be charged anything additional. If it's over 24 hours then it'll cost you. To be honest, I don't know if that is only from the license plate agency or any proof of documentation because I informed her that's where I was headed next. I returned early the following day as suggested by examiner Woods. Google states that it' opens at 8 o'clock, but it does in facr open at 7 AM. There was no wait at all, and I was helped by examiner Stallworth. Again, initially the vibe wasn't great, but then I struck up a conversation with her and she turned out to be very pleasant and friendly. I think that a lot of the public service workers get treated like crap so often that they're expecting people to be rude, unfortunately. Don't treat them like they're there to serve you, treat them like a human being, as they deserve. You'll both have a better experience.

My visit here today was actually relatively quick. I was in and out within 30 minutes. I made an…read moreappointment online to get my STAR ID. I arrived about 15 minutes before my appointment. When I went to the desk, I told them I had an appointment and they verified my name. They also looked at my documentation to make sure I had the right paperwork. I did so I was directed to seat in a chair and given a slip of pause with a number on it. I only waited about 5 minutes before my number was called. The gentleman helped me. For some reason, he couldn't get my passport to validate, but I had brought additional documentation just in case. I'm glad I did that. I highly suggest scheduling an appointment instead of walking in. I saw multiple turned away because they were full for the day in regards to walk-ins. If you have an appointment and your proper documentation, it should be an easy task.

After standing in line for 50 minutes. mind you,I got here at 1547. They do not process titles…read moreafter 430. The staff never stepped outside to ask what customers are here for. Once I got to the door. They turned me away, saying sorry we open Monday. Then I said, I got here at 3:47 and no one asked all these customers what they are here for. Yes they have a single sign which is small and you don't see it when you're in-line 50 feet from the door.

Having just moved here, I am of course making the rounds of all the various bureaucracy to be taken…read morecare of. The husband got his registrations taken care of at the Skyland location and suggested that the downtown location might be friendlier, so I came here to get my car switched over. He had already gotten my VIN checked out, so I had that paperwork in hand (no additional inspection needed). On the first visit, the signage was a bit confusing, but I managed to make my way up to a window (no line) where I was informed that if I purchased a Roll Tide plate in June, my last name would be up for renewal in July and I would have to pay to have that plate all over again (no pro-rating of that fee, I guess). Fortunately, my old tag was good through July, so I promptly picked up my paperwork and returned last week instead. There was a line of 6-8 people, but it was moving fairly reasonably and there were several windows open. The lady was friendly, but the weird design of the glass windows -- glass all the way up, with a small rectangular opening around eye level -- made it really hard to hear her, especially with a loud guy at the window next to me. And though the signs specified certain information required to pay by check, she didn't ask me for any of it. So I guess if you have to do registration paperwork, this is a reasonably painless location to do it at.

With that said, we walked in at 130ish after waiting at the Pell city one the majority of the day, to which they turned us away. The deputy recommended the Jacksonville office and off we went. The clerk was about to turn us away and I was like maam, we just drove 70ish miles to be here, and the deputy was the one that told us.... This lady had pity on the situation and gave me a number. That's heart. Alternatively ALEA is 20+ years behind the times and needs to be demolished.

I understand she has a job to do and needs to keep things moving, but she is the last person who should be dealing with the public. She spoke too quickly, treated us like we were stupid for asking questions, and made the entire process unnecessarily stressful. If you don't want to do the job, please find a new one -- people come here needing help, not hostility. The ladies and gentleman in the back were very kind and nice!

Whew! There may be…read morea better day or time to come here than Friday at 2:00. There were 6 people In Line already and only one clerk. Plus, two were not wearing masks. So we had to stand in line in back of a guy with no mask for 35 minutes. Yeah, that is not comfortable. This is a state government office. The law states you must have a mask. What this office should do is post on the door that people without a mask will not be served. Then do just that. No mask, no service.
