I'm updating this review ONLY because of Dr. Sandler. He is the sweetest person and very very patient, he truly takes his time to listen to you. The bad reviews is for the secretaries because is always IMPOSSIBLE to get your call through. Their phone is always busy and if you leave a message they take days to reply. Once you are able to get your appointment everything else is smooth. You have to pay for parking about $4dlls for 2hrs I believe and once you check in they typically see you pretty fast. read more

Like may others, I couldn't get past the front office scheduling. A referral was sent and they said they didn't receive it. So they sent it AGAIN and then called and confirmed that it was received and said they needed 24 hours to "process". I called 3 days later and was told that they didn't receive it. I was referred to this office by my primary care provider, and I honestly don't even know how they are allowed to operate. For three weeks straight, I tried to schedule an appointment and was met with nothing but excuses, delays, and unprofessional behavior. * They repeatedly told me they couldn't schedule after 3 PM, which already seemed unusual for a medical office. * They claimed they "didn't have the paperwork" they needed, even though my PCP's office confirmed that they sent the required documents at least 15 times. * Every time I called, I was placed on hold for long periods, and eventually they just stopped answering altogether -- even when my provider's office tried to reach them directly. Because of this, my health care is now significantly delayed. I wasted three weeks trying to cooperate with this office, and now I have to go back through the referral and insurance process to start over with a different endocrinologist. This feels extremely unprofessional and possibly shady. If they advertise that they accept Medi-Cal patients, why are they making it impossible for actual patients to get an appointment? It makes me wonder if there's some financial incentive for them to "accept" Medi-Cal on paper but avoid actually providing care. Patients deserve better. I hope this office is reported and reviewed, because people's health should never be delayed or put at risk due to incompetence or games like this. read more

I don't even know where to start with this office. Yes I do - the front desk person who I believe is the only person in the office, needs to be fired. She is absolutely the worst help I have ever experienced with any medical office. I have been trying for 2 weeks to MAKE AN APPT and I've had zero luck. Excuses, lunch shut down, closed after 3PM, "we haven't received reports needed", on hold for up to an HOUR! If this Dr is so busy, tell people that. Say you're not accepting new patients. This morning I received a return phone call from Dr Sandlers office. On the opposite end of the phone line was Miss Colleene. She phoned me to let me know I should have no trouble with my medication refill in that after she had reviewed my chart it was apparent that my vital medication had ample refills. I'd explained to her thst I had also received a return call from my pharmacy and they explained the mix up to me. Miss Colleene was so kind, so patient and maintained a high level of professionalism. I told her how she'd made my day because I am nog going too good today. f was concerned and for a brief moment it was like talking to a long time friend. We as a people are always snap quick to remark on the slightest thing we might "think" someone said or did. But how often do we take th Ed time to acknowledge thd slightest good they impacted our life with? Not often enough. So rude. Sandler was surprised I've never heard of a medical procedure when medical isn't my field and no one I know has ever had it (???) He tried to make me feel dumb for not knowing. Threw my chart on his desk on zoom because I was asking a lot of questions (as I should because it's important for me to understand)? Oh and good luck getting a hold of anyone in the office. This office should be reported and shut down due to extreme negligence to patients. The staff are extremely unethical and never answer phone calls or emails. The office manager herself doesn't care to reply to any complaints and doesn't encompass any basic knowledge of handling referrals that get assigned to her. It's been 2 months of calling this office and emailing them as well as the infusion center chasing them around too and still no response to the patient nor the infusion center. I am holding them accountable for the wellbeing of my mother that has been severely affected by their negligence and will report this office to every entity till they shut them down. If you're looking for a professional doctor, Dr. Jeffrey Sandler is not it. I took my mom for a first time patient visit and we've never gone back. He was disrespectful towards my mom. My mom's a diabetic and she was referred to see Dr. Sandler back in December 2021. He has a high demographic of patients who do not speak English or at least not fluent enough and needs a translator. He was annoyed as soon as he saw I was in the room with my mom and explained I would be translating. He told us that he's sick of translators and patients not speaking English and doubling his time as a doctor. That initial reaction took my breath away. I've never experienced such disrespect within a doctor's office before - and this behavior was targeted towards my elderly non-English speaking mother. I asked if he would like us to cancel, we can walk out. He told us no, it's fine. But then proceed to take jabs at our race throughout the meeting. He asked how long my mother has been in the US and how come she still can't speak English. (She's Vietnamese for context). Then he spent more time asking what I do, my life, etc. Less about my mom's health history and what she's seeing him for. He also asked why we're not trying harder to find a different doctor (a Vietnamese one that specializes in diabetic needs). I told him there wasn't one, to my knowledge within the network or here in San Diego. I also told him we saw another specialist a month prior but she wasn't a great fit. He then asked who the doctor was and proceed to bad mouth that doctor too. I've never seen such unprofessional behaviors from a doctor before. The worst part? I couldn't translate all of this to my mother who was just sitting there trying to follow along until after the meeting because I was shocked by his behavior and worried how hurt she would be. The final straw was as we were leaving after instructions for her insulin and a scheduled tele-health call the following month, my mom thanked him. He looked her in the eyes and said he's thankful he didn't go to war for her (reference to US soldiers fighting in the Vietnam War). I cancelled the followup call once I secured a new specialist for my mom the following month. It also took THREE calls to get in contact with someone to cancel. My biggest regret was not walking out of the office with my mom as soon as he said the things he did about translators. I'm deciding to write something now because more patients are being referred to his office. I don't want another patient (Vietnamese or not) to experience what my mom did in that office that day. I've already spoke to our primary care doctor and explained the situation but I know they're still referring people over to this office. Protect your family members. I was in the same room and he spoke to my mom that way - how does Dr. Jeffrey Sandler talk to his other patients when there isn't a third person in the room? Especially ones who don't understand enough to defend themselves and how long has this been going on? Is this just a one off - bad day? Whatever it is, we will never be going back and never recommend other patients to experience the same disrespect again. read more

I have attempted to make an appointment with Dr Sandler for over a month- whomever is running the front desk is either incompetent or is intentionally tanking this business. I am sure he is a fine doctor, but his receptionist will not answer the phone, is rude, won't schedule appointments, and is literally turning away customers because she doesn't want to check the fax machine. My PCP sent referral over 3 times and it was not received, I asked why that was and if they could request the referral and the only thing the receptionist said was "we are short staffed" and was very very rude. My mom goes to this doctor and we had the worst experience this morning. There is no where on they're Yelp page that specifies when they open phone call lines and only says they are open from 7am to 7pm! We called several time and not even the automated messages specify to call at 8:30 when the phone open up! My mom needed to get her blood work done for her upcoming appointment and to our surprise there was not an order for her at quest diagnostic. Mind you, she is diabetic and she fasted for this blood test. We ended up deciding to go up to the office which was a trip in its own as we have never physically gone before and was difficult to find. The GOOD. As an endocrinologist, Dr. Sandler is superb. He's very knowledgable in that regard. I'm actually an RN (I keep that to myself) so I'm a little more versed into what's happening than the average person. That said he's very good at what's he's doing. His explanations, treatment options, and diagnosis have always mirrored what I've expected. I've talked to him about the labs and he's always been clear with the explanation and what I should expect with the various treatment options. The NOT SO GOOD The worst part is that the office mechanics are pretty rough. I've tried reaching out to them and it's hard, like very difficult to schedule things. But I will say it's been worth it. A brilliant diagnostician, passionate medical man, genuine caring individual, lifetime of experience, doesn't suffer fools gladly. I do NOT need to date my specialist MD's. I DO need high-quality, insight, experienced and brilliance. (Although he *IS* cute ;-) ) Now, here in 2022, I've "seen" this professional, Dr Sandler, for the first time via "Telehealth". It was fast and efficient to get through on the phone to his staff. The staff quickly & politely processed the insurance, scheduled the appointment, answered my questions. Subsequently, they verified my records were transferred from my primary. When *MY* primary & labs were not sent to Dr. Sandler's office correctly, his staff contacted me and then Dr. S's staff resolved the issue FOR ME. I see here on yelp there was previously issues with staffing: based on my personal experience, this has been resolved. (Of course, with the ongoing pandemic, all healthcare offices are experiencing turnover and employee shortages.) At the telehealth appointment, Dr. S was prepared, had reviewed and thoroughly analyzed my chart. We exchanged questions, he clearly, succinctly and completely explained the current situation, my options and available strategies. I had also thoroughly prepared with my own research so as to not waste his time and mine. I had typed out a list of specific questions that my research did not answer. He clarified my questions respectfully and intelligently. I selected an option and strategy to move forward. He concurred. We set a future appointment to review the status. I look forward to permanently retaining Dr. Sandler as a valued member of my medical team. MY ADVICE TO YOU: Treat this man and his team as professionals at the top of their field. Be prepared. Do your research. Verify that YOU have EVERYTHING in your COMPLETE file with all your labs, meds, charts and correct contact info for all your physician's offices & pharmacies IN YOUR HAND prior to the appointment. Best if you have BOTH printed paper copies AND digital copies immediately available to you. FURTHER: Be thoroughly familiar with everything in YOUR medical file. Review it once more while you're in the "waiting room". Don't waste his time time or yours. Expect this to be the busy office of a highly-sought-after professional and act accordingly. Be compliant with your medications, your physician's instructions, and be completely truthful. Don't expect to be babied. I was not happy being seen here because I wasn't heard. My body could not stand 120-140 units of insulin a day. My blood sugar kept dropping to 30-60. It left me in confusion, unable to walk, unable to use my arms. Also, it's very hard calling the office because the lines are always busy. The few times that my call did go through, my call was answered twice, transferred to the doctor once, and the rest, I was hung up on. It wasn't even 3:30pm and they put the phones to voicemail. I do not see him anymore due to the fact that at my last appointment he called me a "heavy ***" even though I dealt with my endocrine issues over 20 years ago. He knew I was working on losing weight. He knows my past test results about my chromosomes. That was tested prior to ever seeing him. I told him that a female nurse was so cross towards me prior to him coming into the room. Dr. Jeffrey Sandler is an amazing doctor. He is caring and wants to help his patients. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and he made everything move as fast as possible. He contacted surgeons personally to get me seen. He personally called me to give me updates. Dr. Sandler is professional and extremely knowledgeable. People may be upset with his humor and his use of cursing; but I think that is the best part about him. He takes away the stress through his colorful speech. In stressful times, it was a blessing to laugh and have a fun, positive appointment. I would rather have a doctor who is extraordinary and with a great bedside manner than a great doctor with no social skills. Dr. Sandler has both. read more

This was my sons first appointment with the endocrinologist after Aging out of Children's Hospital system. I was impressed with the attentiveness of the office staff and the initial visit with the doctor. I had called many endocrinologist offices within the SMG network and not one answered their phone except for Dr. Sadler's office. This means a lot to me since my Son has had DKA twice. Being able to get someone on the phone and not having to wait 24 hours for a call back, is very important to me. We didn't have to wait long for my sons appointment and I was impressed by how knowledgeable and personable the doctor is. Kudos for all the great advice thank you! read more

Worst doctor or staff!!! My husband had an appointment 05/03/2021 and told my husband he will have an order to do blood work to quest diagnostics. Now it is 05/17/2021 and made many appointments and the tech say the haven't received the order yet and he is not the only patient. I have now seen Dr Sandler 5 or 6 times and I can tell you that he is smart , interesting , compassionate and direct! He never rushes me and I truly believe that he cares about my well being! I was very sick when I started seeing him and with his advice I now am feeling great and have my A1C under control! Yes his office is always packed and yes the front desk does get overwhelmed.... I just had my first appt with Dr. Sandler and I can't figure out why him or his office has negative reviews. I called early last week for an appt, after getting a referral from my primary, and they couldn't get me in before August 20th, but it's a specialist, I understand. I asked to be on the cancellation list and was able to get less than a week after I originally called to make my appt. The office staff was very helpful getting me scheduled, greeting me in the office and scheduling my follow up appts. Dr. Sandler was great. He came in and took a little time to get to know about me, not just the reason I was at his office. He really seemed to care about me from the start. He wanted me to get a blood draw that day but since I am getting one for something else on Friday he said he would just write the lab order down so I could take it with me and have his test done at the same time as my others so I didn't have to "get poked twice". This may seem small but it was a great consideration. If things go well I'm probably not going to update my review, most likely I'll only update if something would make me drop a star but I saw none of the issues that people were warning and complaining about. read more

My calm and mild mannered husband just returned from this doctor and passionately stated, I'm never going back to him again! He was awful. While he was waiting in the patient room, he over heard the doctor cussing profusely - "F" this, "F" that, "F-ing" everything to the front desk lady at 7:00 am! Then when he looked at my husbands insulin pump on how much he is delivering he asked why it is so low. My husband said I have changed my eating habits - started a new diet and the Dr. interrupted him and this diet is crap, you don't need to be doing that. This diet is perfect for diabetics - restricted to no simple sugars : candy, fruits high in sugar, flour... UM - HELLO - Medical school didn't teach you that simple sugars effects your insulin intake? SKIP this dude. What a TOOL! Dr. Sandler has my back. It is hard to find health professionals that are such strong advocates for their patients. He's extremely knowledgeable, so if you are less concerned about bedside manner and more concerned about experience and getting to the bottom of your health issues (which is more important to me) then he is a great doctor. He is also very open-minded and progressive when it comes to treatment and patients from all walks of life. He is definitely cynical and can be a bit crass. If you don't know him, I can see how this would be an extreme turnoff. He's been my endo for over a decade, so it actually just makes me laugh. He is a good guy and genuinely does care. The four stars are for him. If I were to rate the front desk it would be a two-star review. They are completely desensitized and wont hesitate with their actions to let you know that they have absolutely no time for you. Granted, they probably deal with a lot of needy patients that call of the hook, but its no excuse for being so rude. They need to remember they are dealing with real people looking for help (and sometimes not in the best of health). If I didn't have such a history with Sandler, the people who answer the phone would definitely turn me away from him before we ever met. I would bring it up to him but I am sure he wouldn't care. I read the other reviews and can support that Dr. Sandler is not 'conventional' in his treatment of patients--with that said, I have found his staff to be phenomenal. Helpful with fitting me into the schedule, working with my time frames and allowing me to see him even when I was an hour late--unheard of in 'conventional' practices. Additionally, I went to dr. sandler 'self referred'. I had been through many doctors previously and couldn't get to the bottom of my thyroid condition, or the masses visible flanking my thyroid--for literally years. he saw me and I had a treatment plan, all of the tests ordered, biopsies done and within 90 days I felt human again. I also still owe 400.00 on a bill from biopsies and have yet to receive any call from his office [over 60 days owed] Say what you will--I can take some quirks and personality from someone who gets the job done. I do not think he is a homophobe or anything beyond someone who may speak without a filter. He does not present 'doctorly'. I saw a lot of those very arrogant people who never gave a shade of being human. Dr. Sandler is a great doctor who simply speaks without a filter--and may have eyes that fail to filter, either. read more
