Great experience from Dr Kotsubo and his staff! Recommend this business if you need a root canal done!

Can't recommend enough. My regular dentist recommended that I get a root canal retreatment. I was shocked how much they were charging. After a year later the dentist wanted asked again. So I reached out to root canal specialist Kotsubo. He recommended that my old root canal is not that bad. Let's revisit next year. Wow other dentist were trying to force me to get the root canal at outrageously price. After month later there was a hand written check that they sent to me - they have recovered 40 dollars from insurance company and refund that amount back. Terrified, I went for a root canal. A friendly staff and good Covid precautions greeted me. After X-rays and a short exam, no root canal for me. I'm off to get an implant. Ok, that's worse.... but the exam was short and to the point. No wasting time, waiting, or wondering. Not a lot of rapport building here, social banter (which eases my anxiety) is not part of the office. However, a very professional and thorough explanation of everything helped me feel confident that the right determination was made. I'd have to say, great job! read more

I want to add an interesting item to the previous review regarding the refusal of service from this doctor because of rescheduled appointments. I checked my old voice messages and discovered that I had an appointment scheduled for 12th of February (2024) and I received a call from the office telling me that they needed to reschedule the appointment because the receptionist didn't realize that the doctor needed more time for my procedure. So again I am going have to come out of pocket and pay $250 to receive another scan that he performed (that is only covered by insurance once a year) when in fact they rescheduled one of the appointments. As I said in the previous post this is unprofessional activity on the part of this doctor. read more

Excellent doctor. Excellent staff. Great front office communication. You know how some front office people say they'll call you if they get a cancellation? Well, this office actually DOES. My insurance referred me to Dr. Kotsubo as my dentist thought I might need a root canal. Two years ago, I had to have a tooth extracted due to bone loss. I had another tooth, on the opposite side of my mouth, starting to feel the same way as the extracted one and was terrified I might need a root canal, then a crown. Well, Dr. Kotsubo said no root canal necessary, though I will be getting that crown! From start to finish, everyone there was friendly, professional and competent. Dr. Jeff Kotsubo is an incredibly talented and intelligent endodontist specializing in root canals. They have a beautiful new office in Culver City with the most advanced technology. From the receptionist to the support team - all are super qualified and helpful. Dr. Kotsubo has a calm demeanor and makes you feel very comfortable. He is an obvious expert in his field and explains everything in great detail. I have had a lot of experience with oral surgery, but have never had a specialist be so extremely patient and thorough with their work. After having a toothache for a full week, I went to my dentist who told me I needed a root canal and immediately sent me to Dr. Kotsubo. Kim, at the front desk, was cheerful and personable--and very knowledgable about her part of the office. She was helpful and we had a great conversation about books. Of course I was nervous--who isn't, in the dental chair? Dr. Kotsubo took photos of my tooth (very easy!), did a couple of tests (yes, they were uncomfortable, no, he didn't make them more so), and then announced that I didn't need a root canal, I just needed to wear my mouth guard to bed because I grind my teeth. He could have made a lot of money by giving me that procedure and I never would have known, but he chose to do the right thing and be honest with me. I so appreciate this. Ask me again 10 years from now and my review might be different, but having gone through two severely botched root canals, I can say from experience that Dr Lee is by far the best endodontist I've ever seen. He uses a state of the art microscope to peer into your gob, and stares straight ahead into the viewer, hands hovering over your mouth, moving with the dexterity of the robot devil. It's quite a feat. The plugging of the root looked flawless on the x-rays, which is a first. Three thumbs up. read more

When one needs a root canal, it seems the question to ask your dentist or oral surgeon, as it was in this case is, "who would you go to?" The answer was Dr.Kotsubo. My daughter's lower molar was so infected from all the time which was wasted because the dentist said the tooth wasn't cracked and recommended a night guard be made for her tooth grinding. She then sought acupuncture for the pain when in fact the infection was getting worse each day causing severe pain. She saw an oral surgeon at my urging because I wanted his opinion on the tooth since the pain wasn't alleviated by the anti inflammatory, acupuncture, etc. As I believed all along, Dr Wong, her dentist, was wrong, the tooth was cracked and infected. She made an appointment with Dr Kotsubo, which was a pleasure because Kim understood that she was having a lot of pain and accommodated her. She's never even had a filling in her life but the procedure was as gentle as a root canal can be. Dr Kotsubo said the infection was so bad she actually had bone loss which will take some time to heal. Since the procedure she has improved daily and will be getting a crown in a few days. Her jaw and tooth are still very sensitive but thanks to Dr Kotsubo she is healing and infection free. Thank you Kim for the help and enjoyable conversation during my wait. read more

Excellent dentist. Kind staff. Great experience. I was not thrilled to learn that I needed a root canal but I can now say that it is not a bad experience as Little Shop of Horrors might indicate. It is similar to getting a filling although takes more time. For my procedure I arrived at 10:45, filled in paper work and the whole root canal was over by 12:45. Dr. Kotsubo is thorough and methodical. All you need to do is sit back and let the oldies but goodies wash over you (I recall listening to American Pie). Dr. Kotsubo was highly recommended by my dentist Dr. Craig Israel and I can see why. I do not know what root canals go for but I'm pretty sure it's not the kind of thing you want to get done cheaply. This is an experienced practice located in a lovely building. I think you'll be very happy with your experience at Dr. K's practice. read more

I hate dentists!!! Was reffered to Dr. Kotsubo, by a new dentist im seeing now, due to a root canal I needed. Front desk staff and assistant were nice and professional. They eased my nerves as to what Ive heard of when it comes to root canals. Dr Kotsubo was warm, pleasant and professional. Was pain free during and after procedure. Dr. Kotsubo had to correct a root canal done by another dentist. It was actually painless and the entire staff couldn't be friendlier. I seriously don't have a single negative thing to say. ME!!! Super professional, very accommodating practice. Took a quick look at what was happening with my left molar, decided on a course of treatment, and two sittings later, voila, I feel much better. He assured that there is still some curves I gotto negotiate in this journey to dental goodness but I am totally and completely happy with what he did with my teeth. I had gum surgery done by Dr Kotsubo. I couldn't believe it when the doctor said "all done", because I didn't feel a thing. it's like magic, even when I went home, I didn't need to take any pain medicine. Dr Kotsubo called me in two days to check on me to see how I am doing. a week later the doctor removed the stitches.... and three weeks later my gum feels really good and I don't even feel like I had surgery. Nikki at the front desk is super personable, organized, efficient as well as super nice. She made me feel comfortable from my first call into the office after being referred by my regular dentist for root canal. Maile also eased my nerves once I got to the exam room. She explained everything that was about to happen and was so clear about the x-rays, drilling, mouth guard, and more. Do not go here. They will rip you off. I was charged a diagnosis fee for a diagnosis that I didn't need. They were checking for gum disease when I went in there for a root canal. They also rejected the x-rays that my dentist did 2 days prior. Said they had to do there own. Also, I was told that my diagnosis fee would be free if I had treatment done that day. Then I was told that treatment would have to be done at a later date. Also, the diagnosis wasn't covered by my insurance. Something I was told after the fact. Guys like this, don't rely on repeat business like a regular dentist. So they rob you blind when you cross there path. Especially in though economic times like this. How else will they make there Porsche payments. Stay away from this place. read more

I think it's pretty hard to avaluate an endodontist when you don't have specific knowledge in the area. So in such case you just can give your subjective opinion. I had two root canal procedures done here. The doctor (Kotsubo) and the staff are quite professional. The procedure on one my tooth was sucessfull. I had a crown placed on it afterwards. The tooth is asymptomatic. The second tooth - it was a retreatment. The first procedure on this tooth was done at some other place. The tooth was bothering me for months. The doc here suggested a retreatment. After the retreatment (now about 6 month later) it still gives me the same unpleasant feelings I had before. I feel that the doc did his usual routine, whereas this retreatment case required extra work and extra effort, and I did not get that. read more

I was so bummed this afternoon when my dentist, Dr. Carol Follette (the best dentist in the world, mind you) told me I needed a root canal for my broken crown. She called Dr. Kotsubo's office and I was seen 20 minutes later. The staff are exceptionally kind, professional, calm and respectful. I'm terrified of dentists, and the idea of a root canal sounded worse than being water boarded . Dr. Kotsubo was amazing. He was just like his staff--kind, professional, friendly and very calming. He worked quickly and efficiently. The staff warned me it may take up to an hour and a half, and I may need two days to complete, but I was completely done under an hour. WOW! After reading all these wonderful reviews about Dr. Kotsubo and his staff, I am wondering what I can add that hasn't been addressed here yet? Doc, his assistant Miley and receptionist Kim, all simply fantastic in all aspects and areas of their work, professionalism, caring, and compassion. Dental work was fast, easy, painless, and considering it was a heavy duty root canal, I was laying there relaxing of all things! Unheard of! I didn't even want to leave after getting into a deep philosophical conversation with them after my procedure was finished. I felt like I had been to a BE-IN about life! Gee, maybe I had! Zen and the Art of Root Canals! Also, beautifully decorated office with wonderful meditative artwork that was hand picked by Dr. Kotsubo himself. Love Love Love! Believe me a root canal is no picnic, but Dr. Kotsubo, Maille, and Kim make it feel like a picnic. I don't use elevators, Kim came downstairs, & walked me up the stairs EVERYTIME I went in, Kim is an angel, on earth. Maille stood by my side, & comforted me during EVERY procedure (there was minimal discomfort, I can be a little dramatic though) Maille was a blessing. Dr. Kotsubo is The Bomb.com he is very kindhearted, down to earth, and patient, not to mention he did Thee Best Root Canal's I ever had, and this wasn't my first rodeo, though I hope it will be my last. I had seen my dentist for a clean-and-check and had mentioned a tooth that was sometimes sensitive. Although x-rays showed no decay, my dentist referred me to Dr. Kotsubo for consultation. Dr. Kotsubo did additional x-rays and diagnosed a small abcess, then did a root canal procedure. He explained what to expect, and the procedure was painless. A 6-month follow-up appointment was made, to ensure that the bone under the tooth regenerates well. I was seen promptly, and the office staff was efficient and gracious. I've had root canals done in the past by other endodontists) and a few of them were pretty scary and painful experiences. But this is NOT the case with Dr. Kotsubo! From start to finish, everything was done smoothly, painlessly, and professionally. I went to Dr. Kotsubo for a root canal and found his staff to be very courteous and helpful with regard to both setting my appointment and making me feel comfortable once I arrived. My appointment lasted no longer than what they recommended for my time away from the office - plus I was on holiday with my family in the area and needed to get this done ASAP. Actually, it was quicker. Painless procedure was also noted by my dentist (the recommending dentist did not do root canals so she pointed me at a few) that the work completed was top-notch.
