That's the wonderful thing about people, we are each unique and when we come together with like-minded individuals, you magnify what you have in common. I'm not an overly boisterous person, nor am I religious, but I'm always curious and fascinated to learn about humans in general. So this Easter Sunday, I visited the Calvary Baptist Church to participate in services. The group was just as I hoped-energetic, enthusiastic and welcoming. The music was terrific-a combination of a gospel choir as well as a few musical acts performed by different youth groups. The songs were not the traditional mild Christian music, but very upbeat and fun; I found myself clapping along. The Reverend was powerful and shared a good message. Regardless of your personal beliefs, I'm sure that some-or all-of his message would resonate with people.

Everything was decorated beautifully for this special service. There's a rich heritage to Calvary Missionary Baptist Church! In 1890, Sister Emma Jackson led a small group of African American women in prayer. This church was established in 1892 out of someone's home and in 1898, they moved into a house of worship on West Temple Street. As the congregation grew, so did their house of worship. Fast forward to 1996, through the power of prayer and God's blessing, they now worship in a beautiful 47,000 square feet building on 2.5 acres of land. Their first worship service at this location was October 7, 2001. Congratulations Reverend Dr. Oscar T. Moses for starting your pastoral service here on January 1, 2020! My family recently had a memorial service hosted at Mountain Road Church in Fruit Heights, UT. The…read moreservice was officiated by interim Pastor Reverend Chris Bower, a personable and compassionate man. The church itself is pretty and layed out well. Everything is tip top shape, clean and welcoming. The ladies (and gents) that put out the spread of food and beverages were very thoughtful to be supportive of the family in our time of need. I really appreciate all that they did to make our time of grief a slightly less difficult transition. While they lost a member of their flock (our relative Marilyn Ramage), it is my hope that if you are new to the community of Fruit Heights, or are looking to find the sense of community that joining their church can bring, that you will be welcomed in with open arms the way that our family members have been. I scanned their website and it appears to offer MANY programs for the community, offer childcare during services, and opens it's hospitality center for other functions as well. It is a safe, clean, healthy environment that sets ones mind at ease while at work. Our family does not follow the exact religious makeup of this school but, we have never been made to feel segregated. I recommend St. John's to anyone who loves being a nurturing parent.

By sharing lunch every Sunday we are able to get to know each other better. Children stay for the greeting, singing and communion. The children are encouraged to attend one of 2 small groups to learn about the Bible which are taught by the members of the church. We are passionate about discovering depth, purpose and creativity as we learn how to practice and understand the teachings of Jesus.
