Without a doubt this is the best state owned rv campground we have ever experienced. It has full hookups which are pretty much nonexistent in most government campgrounds. The place is very much like camping in the lowland forest near the beach. Old hardwoods, Spanish moss, lots of shaded spaces. If you like camping and want to experience Jekyll, this is the way to go! $30/night for tent camping (I think it's $40 for a site with RV hookups. The grounds are beautiful, and the upgraded bathrooms are private with showers, AC, and outlets as well so you can charge while showering and getting a break from the heat and mosquitoes. Speaking of mosquitoes, do come prepared depending on the season, as they can be everywhere and relentless! The pricing in the store was pretty expensive but not surprising. They also have an older facility on site that is old school bathroom stalls and shower stalls with no AC. That part was pretty terrible and in sore need of renovations if not a full rebuild. It was mostly quiet at night too so we were able to sleep. The kids enjoyed the bird sanctuary, too, which rarely had anyone else there. Driftwood beach is a short walk away. read more

We are here for 5-6 days, writing this on our 2 day here.. bathhouse has been very clean and always checked! Mosquitos have been a little bad but nothing a little repellent can't handle.. only thing so far is the squirrels, lol they are everywhere cute yet destructive, we have a popup up and after seeing squirrels tear a hole through a tent behind us I'm a little worried we have taken precautions with squirrel deterrents vary vinegar water coffee grounds and ground black pepper, we'll see if it works but just be aware and put your food in a car if you have any kind of tent or canvas. Will write again after our stay with an update! But all and all this is a very nice area beaches are awesome! read more

As the only campground in the island getting a site isn't easy but worth it. If you like campion nature this is the place. Surrounded by live oaks and pines, plenty of birds and squirrels running around. There's all the facilities you would need and with the island road a big loop, bring your bicycle or rent one !! This is beautiful area, be mindful it's a state part so you'll have to pay $10to enter or get a multi day pass. read more

The campground is very well maintained. The staff is extremely helpful. The sites are spacious and shady. I do have a problem with them saying they provide laundry machines when the laundry machines are run by an app on your phone. You have to download an app which continually asks you to load $25 onto it for a three dollar wash. It took me pretty much all afternoon to get the laundry catastrophe settled. They need to go back to quarters. read more

This is our third time staying here and it has gone downhill. The bath house is absolutely disgusting. In the women's Only two out of six toilets were working. Two out of four showers. It was dirty and grimy. My husband said the men's bathroom both urinals were taped up and there was only one toilet available. He said it smelled like diarrhea in there every time he went in. We camp here at least once a year to participate in a local 5k. The bathrooms/showers are outdated and the sites are close, but that does not keep us away. We love the location! I was happy to see they added new updated bathrooms/showers and they are expanding the campground. The workers are always helpful and you just can't beat the location. We are already scheduling our trip for next year. Note: Toll to get on the island is $10 per day. Cons: although WiFi is free it is very unstable. We had a great time here and felt fortunate they had a weekend opening for a trip up North from Florida as a half-way stopping point. The park is about 30 minutes or so from I-95 and is an easy drive with a tow behind camper. You do have to pay the $8 at the entrance even if you have a reservation at the campground, well at least arriving after hours we did. The campground has an outdated camp store but they are building a brand new one as well as what seemed to be an additional bath house. The camp hosts escorted us to the campsite and showed us where all of the hookups, etc. were. We had a pull through site and had ample room to maneuver. Be warned, even in the winter there are some biting insects and since this is a state park on a marsh island it is mostly dirt (and mud when raining). read more

First of all, we tent camp a lot all over the country. The tent area is in the trees at the very back of the campground like they are trying to hide you. The mosquitoes at this campground in mid June were TERRIBLE. We expected it to be hot in Georgia in the summer and we expected mosquitoes but WOW. We never spent any time during our two days here at the actual campground. No sitting around the campsite outdoors, no sitting around a fire. Just knew better than to even try it. We got up in the mornings and left, and came back at dark, showered and went to bed. The morning we were leaving I took the tent down and threw everything in the van and drove to the beach on the other side of the island where there was an ocean breeze and no mosquitoes and totally repacked the van there. No way I would have tried it at the campground. Next, you cannot walk to any of the swimming beaches from the campground. You can walk to the fishing pier area which has beaches around it but the signs there said the water was not safe to swim in due to high bacteria levels. So you have to drive to the swimming beaches about 10 minutes away. The restrooms and showers were about a 3 out of 10. Hot water but not the cleanest. The only good thing I could say about this campground is two of the four camp hosts I met were nice. I would not stay here again. The beaches on Jekyll are nice, especially the grassy areas above the beach and the picnic facilities, and the water is like most beaches in NC and SC, brown but ok. The waves were good. However, once you get out so far out in the ocean you walk in muck. Not good. It was cool finding sand dollars. Driftwood beach was cool. The area around the fishing pier and St. Andrew's Beach on the other end of the island were rough. Rough characters hanging around. "Downtown Jekyll" was ritzy and expensive and the people act like they are in Beverly Hills. It was an ok place to visit for two days but we won't be going back. read more

Friendly helpful people, couldn't ask for better hosts. 179 total campsites, only 2 bath/shower buildings, 6 total men's & 6 women's showers. Old, rudimentary buildings obviously getting difficult to maintain. Campsites are crowded together, bare dirt, were probably sort of level once upon a time. Basic conversion van fee, $51 a night plus $4 a night for a small terrier plus $10 toll to get onto the island plus tax, fees, title, tags, whitewalls and paint protectant makes this a pretty darn pricey stop for a nice ocean and bay view. 2 ways to say it, "a once in a lifetime experience" or "no way I'd do THAT again." $20 all up, that would be more like it. read more

The vigilant campground "mall" cop arrived at 10:01 after the raucous disturbance of a table being knocked over....response time from the sound traveling across the campground to officer friendlys arrival ... 35 seconds...so kudos on diligence. "What's going on here? As he leaped out of the golf cart with the yellow flashing light signifying his authority. "...Our dog got his leash snagged on the leg of the table" "Well ...quiet hours began at 10:00 so I'll call the troopers if I have to come back." Well tha escalated quickly. Our kids are asleep in the tent so I am a little more concerned about waking them then the hollow trooper threat. Thankyou volunteers for all you do at the Jekyll Island Campground, but dial it back a notch on a family just trying to get away for the weekend. I get winter is snow bird season, and it gets quiet early but lighten up. read more

This is MOSQUITO HEAVEN! Seriously! It's like a biblical plague. And the golf cart camp cop needs to breathe. I literally just walked out of my camper with my dogs and stoped to light a tiki torch so we didn't get eaten alive and he pulled in to tell me to get my dogs on a leash. The dogs were standing at the door wanting back inside and the leashes were in my hand, so it's not like we were running wild with no intention of following rules. My thought was "how about get your mosquitos on a leash". Reading other reviews it looks like bugs have been a serious issue here for years. We stayed here on our first RV trip with our family - 2 little kids under 4 - for 3 nights. Pros include free WiFi, a gift shop with postcards etc, individual shower stalls with a private dry cabin (i.e. you can dry off and change in private and have a place to put your dry change of clothes while you shower), laundry can be paid via credit card, great location close to the (very cool!) driftwood beach. Cons include, the WiFi was not very reliable, the showers were cold, the bbqs did not come with a grid to put your food on, the grounds were very crowded with many guests not adhering to basic covid safety (like wearing masks inside the laundry room or bathrooms). Also, clothes lines aren't allowed but the public clothes lines are pretty far away from the laundry room. read more

Nice place to camp. The staff and service at the visitor center is great. It is recommended to call ahead and reserve a spot. The bath houses have showers which is nice if you are tenting it. Beware the raccoons come in packs and will stop at nothing to get at food. Leave in your vehicle. read more

My friend and I camped in a tent here for a few nights during spring break. The camp sites are really close together, so sites near the woods are the best for some privacy. The bathrooms and showers are cleaned and well kept, though kind of far away from where our site was. There's wi-fi all over the park, which is very convenient. Next to the laundry service there is a sort of communal building where there are a bunch of tables, a place to wash dishes, some books, and a TV and a VCR. Bike rentals here aren't the cheapest on the island, but they are the most convenient. Biking to the beach and the pier is super fun. I would definitely camp here again. read more

We spent 3 nights at tent site J13. We typically stay at a hotel on the island. Four instead of five stars because a cluster of sites are much too close together, including ours. No privacy. Otherwise, the campground itself is serene and the staff is helpful. Dog friendly. No mosquitoes in early March which was my main concern. Temperatures in the high 60s, low 70s. Lots of pleasant wildlife. Beware of raccoons at night. They are crafty. Restrooms relatively close to primitive sites but a bit far if you really need to go. Bathrooms & showers are closed for cleaning from 9-11 a.m. which is very inconvenient. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. read more

Top 10 for sure! Jekyll Island GA. We had reservations way in advance. We enjoyed the "off season" time here. Great campground! Beautiful grounds. FHU, tent sites. Clean restrooms. One of the best laundry rooms- plenty machines, work well & take credit card or coins. We stayed in section T(2) which we enjoyed this time of year- not too many trees so we got sunshine during the cool temperatures. Summer time, would probably book in other section but "T 2" was a good site & wouldn't mind even in summer. There was plenty room for our 30' TT. They were decorated for Christmas which was awesome, friendly staff. The island had events, holiday parade, lights & fireworks that were added bonus. Rented a golf cart for the week which was added fun to explore the entire island & was especially fun to see the Christmas lights. Pet friendly, but we found several ticks daily on our dog throughout the week (Nexgard & vaccine for dogs are recommended). This is a perfect location if you are exploring Jekyll Island. The campground is located within walking & biking distance from the picturesque historic district and Driftwood Beach and is directly across the street from the fishing pier and a park where you can ride horses. We had a fantastic pull-through spot with lots of room, but there were some back-in spaces that were pretty tight. Also, make sure you are prepared with bug repellent. The campground is extremely well-run with a friendly and attentive staff. The systems they have in place keep campers "happy" and they provide a nice list of tips that serve both novice and experienced RVers well. For a place that has such a great location and team, it was disappointing that the laundry room was so poor. Had high hopes of doing multiple loads while staying here because there were so many washers & dryers. Unfortunately, many were out of order. The change machine was also broken and the dryer I used didn't completely dry a light load of towels. Overall, a great experience. read more

The campground was OK. Sites are close together. No grills . The bath houses are terrible. Dirty every day. I don't think they were ever cleaned our whole stay . They left the doors open and the mosquitos were horrible. You had to fight them off to use the restroom and to take a shower. There were smashed mosquitoes all over the shower walls. It looks like the bath houses were built in the 50's and never updated. Half the stalls had no toilet paper. read more

Very nice Campground and I would give it five stars however we were at one site for 2 days and wanted to extend our stay which they did accommodate however we had to move from one site to the other. When I asked if I could just stay at the site I was in they said no someone else reserved that site. So I picked up stakes and move to the new site for three more days. During those 3 days no one came into the site that I had previously had so my question is why did I have to move? Makes no sense to me. That was my only complaint. read more

We stayed in May of 2016 and had the best time! Luv the fact that it is a true full hook up for rvs! That means septic hook up not just a place to go dump your tanks! We enjoyed walking around the campground and their bird sanctuary area! That was so delightful to see new birds to add to my list! We didn't have a skeeter problem, that's mosquito to most folks and it was quiet. We only ever camp during the week so that it is quieter. And the lot size was huge with plants growing around the edges giving us more privacy. We r going back in January 2017, I just a few weeks, I will be letting you know about that trip too! read more

Very nice wooded campground. Showers and bathrooms are well maintained. Not far from all of the facilities within Brunswick and a few places to go on the island itself. OBTW, if you're not a resident or "passholder' there is a daily fee simply to visit the island. The fee must be paid each time you return on to the island if you return after 24 hours from paying your initial or previous fee. The island entry fee is totally exclusive from the campground fee. If you're looking for a longtime stay you need to investigate your island entry fee "pass' options. Spent the nights of 1 -2 October 2018 on this visit. read more

Spent three nights at this wonderful location. When I arrived the camp host was at the check in point in two minutes and he quickly checked me in and showed me to my site. The site was easy to back my 32 foot class C in to and all the connections were easy to access. The sites are all dirt sites but very level and clear. Wi-Fi was sketchy and cable was hard to get a good connection so long term stayers may struggle with that. Bath houses were clean and we'll tended. Beach goers may be disappointed to learn that the beach is not really in walking distance but you could bike or rent a red bug motor cart. We opted for the cart, or as we called it "the boogy bug". The camp is quiet and beautiful. Would highly recommend a stay there. read more
