was due to be in town for one night to view a house that was taken off the market within one hour of paying for a penthouse room. called and was told a credit was extended for future visit. a month later a full charge as well as an additional charge of almost $50 was made even tho had never set foot on the property. condescending staff person said that's the only way they can make money. contesting charge with Mastercard but being new resident of golden isles will never recommend this rip off lodging. have never made this kind of review but this is truly a rip off property. read more

My wife and I and another couple flew from Florida in our small airplane and stayed the night so we could have dinner and drinks. Everyone was very helpful and friendly and seemed to care that we enjoyed our stay. The rooms were very clean but not new, by any means. Ruby was the hostess when we checked in, and out, and she was awesome! The walk was very easy to all the bars and restaurants and the scenery was nice while walking around the park and lighthouse. Location, location, location. If you're looking for a hotel on St. Simons Island, you can't beat the location of the St. Simons Inn by the Lighthouse. It's located directly across the street from the historic lighthouse and museum. It's close to the beach, pier, and many popular shops, restaurants, and bars. Everything is within walking distance. This is an old and quaint hotel that feels almost like a bed and breakfast. It's a "condo hotel" where many of the rooms are owned by different people. Therefore, each of the rooms is unique and no two rooms are alike. Some rooms are nicer than others. We stayed in room 102, which is right next to the front desk, office, and lobby restroom. If I had known this, I probably would have selected a different room. The door, walls, floor, ceiling, etc. do not insulate sound well, so we heard everything. We heard people checking in, checking out, walking through the hallways, turning on the sink upstairs, turning on the bathtub/shower upstairs, and most of all, people opening and shutting the door to the office next door. One morning, while getting ready, I was able to clearly hear an entire conversation of two people who had stopped to chat outside our door. Our room had basic amenities. We had a small kitchen area with a sink, microwave, and fridge. There was no closet, but an armoire. I think many rooms were like this. There was a sticky substance on the floor in front of the kitchen sink that was there when we arrived. It was never cleaned during our stay. There were also chocolate chips underneath our bed. The bedspread seemed a bit tattered and musty. The furniture in the room was generally worn. My allergies acted up during our stay inside and I'm not sure what it was (e.g. dust or mold). I visited other rooms and they were not like our room. They felt bigger, brighter, and cleaner. They also had better views. I recommend booking a room on the second floor. Our room only had a view of an adjacent slanted rooftop. Basic rooms start at about $175 per night after taxes and fees. This is expensive, but you are paying for one of the most prime locations on the island. There was cable TV, but unfortunately no HD. There was free Internet Wi-Fi and it was decently fast. No password required, which was nice. The cord on our phone was about to break at one end, so if I did not hold it in place, calls would be extremely staticky. Cell phone reception is poor at the hotel. My friends and I had AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile and none of us had more than 1-2 bars. The signal gets better outside. Outside, there's covered parking, which is a plus. There's also a small pool. Inside, the lobby is small. The front desk has a water dispenser. Over our weekend stay, the dispenser ran dry twice and wasn't refilled. Coffee is available too. Continental breakfast is served between 7am and 10am, but I didn't get the opportunity to try it. The breakfast area is tiny. During my stay, I often thought of what Anthony Melchiorri of Travel Channel's Hotel Impossible would say. The St. Simons Inn by the Lighthouse is a wonderful little hotel located right across the street from the lighthouse and super near all the action of the Village. This is a very prime location on the Island. And for the area it is very reasonably priced. The hotel doesn't feel like a hotel at all. It feels more like a bed an breakfast as Greg C says in his review. It is very unique with each room having it's own character and charm. We stayed in room 112 which was nice, but some of the other rooms we saw the inside of were much nicer; but we got the last room they had available for the weekend of the 4th of July. Our room could have used a little spring cleaning, but still it was nice with all the amenities that we needed. The room also had a mini-fridge, microwave and wet bar. The staff at the hotel was great! They were very helpful when we checked in telling us all about where we should go eat, where we should party, history of the hotel and island, and made us feel right at home. One of the staff told us that we needed to check out Catch 228 since I wanted some oysters and the girl wanted some crab legs; which we were very pleased to find to our liking. The complimentary breakfast here wasn't much to brag about. It was basically just some cereal, fruit, bagels, and pastries. But it is good to only have a light breakfast before heading out to explore the Island. If you want a more substantial breakfast I recommend heading to the Village and trying one of the places there. The parking at this hotel can be very tight if you have a big SUV, but it is still a nice covered parking deck under the hotel, with additional parking located in the rear of the hotel. read more

We enjoyed a too-short one-night stay having flown into Jacksonville and heading north to Savannah and beyond. Our room #207 was very spacious and comfortable. Loved the wet bar with sink and mini-fridge. Exciting to see the lighthouse from the upper floors. Easy walk to pier and village restaurants. Nice pool area. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and welcoming. During our short stay we enjoyed lunch at Barrier island Brewing, Happy Hour and dinner at Mullet Bay, and breakfast on the patio at Palm coast coffee.( the hotel offers a continental breakfast but we did not see it since we wanted to go out). I stayed here while a conference was going on at the sea island bc this place was cheaper (i think i paid 200 plus tax on memorial weekend or something). It is close to the beach and center so I could easily explore without a car. There is uber on the island but the rates were slightly higher than metro atlanta. The room itself was clean and modern. However, i remember that the lobby smelled funky and although i ate the breakfast, it wasnt the best. For the price level, i felt the room quality did not justify but as others pointed out you are paying for the location. The hotel was rather small and all I remember seeing is people with mean age 50s and I felt a bit out of place in my 20s. So it made me think the people staying here may be a bit well off older people than the broke young peeps. There was a small pool outside but why would u spend time in the pool when u went to an island anyways, so no need for the pool. The location is convenient, and it is right by the lighthouse. But i probably would not wanna stay here again nor go to saint simons again when there are better places in Florida. read more

We stayed one night...and that was enough! When you first see it you think it's going to be a nice little hotel. Then you TRY to pull into one of the covered parking spaces. Perfect size of you drive a Mini Cooper! If not...they have all of 6 regular size spots in the back. Go in and you think this will be okay. It's got a good vibe to it. And that's as far as that goes. It seems as though the walls and ceilings are paper thin! You could hear everything around you. The drain in the shower was extremely slow. One of the two beds squeaked every time you moved...every time! The bathroom door wouldn't fully close or lock. Wall and ceiling in the room were dirty. Needing of a good scrub down and fresh paint. There was a hole in the ceiling that they had patched over...which was coming undone. While they did have internet. It never stayed connected. I tried to like this place. I did. It was a decent little place from the outside. Good location. The interior design of it was nice. This place has the potential to be great. Sadly it isn't. It's nowhere close. read more

The only positives are awesome location and friendly staff. This hotel is in a serious need of deep cleaning. Apparently the rooms are owned by different owners and some pay more attention to the rooms than others. We were unfortunately in the room that should be completely remodeled . What it comes to the furniture it should have been thrown away years ago since it was saggy and stained, mattress had huge stains, bathroom floor was completely cracked, the toilet seat was very old with odd holes on it, should have been replaced years ago. Baseboards were covered with thick dust layer, after trying to clean the floor the cleaning wipe was solid black, windows were so dirty that you could barely see outside. In order to get to the third floor you have to first walk through whole length of second floor (very dirty carpet with unpleasant strong smell) and then take hot, dirty stairwell, very inconvenient. Breakfast had muffins, bagels and other similar items but nothing fresh, no eggs, no bacon, no sausage. Also parking is very tight. read more

My first time at St. Simons and we chose to stay this little Inn. It was perfect. I would highly recommend this for couples! The rooms are nice and updated, bathrooms are modern and each room has a kitchenette (plenty of wine/beer storage). They have a pretty wimpy free breakfast but at least you can stock up on fruit and dry cereal for the beach! This place is a short stroll from a ton of cute restaurants, bars and shopping. I would stay here again for sure. read more

This place is okay. Hotel was fine. They only have one ice machine for the whole hotel. They have a strict 'no cooler' policy, which seems ridiculous since this is a beach hotel. The night manager strictly enforces this and is a jerk about it, even if you're trying to get ice at midnight. Not enough parking and the parking spaces they have are just enough for small cars. Great little hotel right in the middle of everything. I'd call it a cross between a bed and breakfast and hotel, it's that quaint. FYI, each room is unique in this hotel, both in style, size, and pricing. They offer something for every price point, from $145 to $259 per night. If you can swing it financially, the Penthouse Suite is a treat, with a full view of the working lighthouse from a balcony, a huge living room with wetbar and wine chiller, for only a few more bucks a night than their other suites. Breakfast is light continental; fruit, bagels, muffins, cereals, etc. Disappointment at no hot items on the breakfast buffet is quickly replaced by the realization that eggs and greasy sausage before hiking around the island isn't the best combination anyways. Light breakfast was a great way to start a day of sight seeing. However, if you are more inclined to a hearty meal, Palmer's Village Cafe or 4th of May Cafe (both right down the street from the hotel) will be more than happy to accommodate you! Took off a star for some irregular housekeeping practices...bed was made up one morning without a top sheet (I guess they just forgot to replace?), no hair dryer in the room, glassware not cleaned from previous nights use, towels not replaced without having to request...I guess being a quaint little inn precludes the staff from having to undergo quality control inspections that bigger corporate outfits implement. Also, there is no turn-down service. Normally, this wouldn't be a big deal for me, but the hotel's website specifically mentions it ("chocolate mints on your pillows") and it doesn't exist! One of my biggest pet-peeves is false advertising. None of the above mentioned house keeping faux pas were enough to make the room feel unsanitary...just minor inconveniences such as having to make the bed ourselves at midnight when we were ready to just fall in it, washing the glasses ourselves, having to run around the hotel with wet hair in search of a hair dryer...the types of things you don't want to be inconvenienced with when you expect that service to be included in the room rate. All in all, a great first wedding anniversary vacation spot! read more

Cute, quaint hotel. Rooms are spacious and well kept, and the one we stayed in had a wet bar, mini fridge, and hair dryers. The location is great too, close to the pier, across from the lighthouse, and within walking distance to a lot of restaurants and shops. If you're looking for a restful, quiet stay though, I wouldn't recommend staying here. The walls are paper thin, and housekeeping woke us up everyday while they were down the hall. Friends on the first floor complained of hearing everything that went on in the lobby. If we could have gotten some sleep I would have left 4 stars. read more

We booked last minute. The parking is covered but is only suitable for smaller to maybe mid-size cars, and the outdoor parking was limited. The room was small with too much furniture packed in. There was a moldy smell in many places. Labor Day morning the landscape work started at 9:45 am, so no sleeping in here! read more

I surprised my other half with a weekend getaway and booked a room here at the last minute. When I first arrived I was a little skeptical of the place but that quickly changed. We were able to find parking although like others have said it's a bit tight. Our check in was pleasant and upon entering our room I was pleasantly surprised. The room was well kept though perhaps a bit dated. We had everything we needed including a mini-fridge that we used regularly. The staff were very nice and very helpful in recommending things to do and places to eat. The location was great and within walking distance of just about everything - especially the pier area. The only issue I had is what although they do sell toiletries, they were out of the items that I needed. All in all this was a great find and I look forward to saying there again in the future. read more

This place has so much potential but is just not maintained well. Chunks of paint missing from the walls from previous guests and the mold in the shower was rediculous! Hasn't been scrubbed in a long time. This place is so cute though and is in a perfect location for folks visiting SSI, especially for the first time like us. Really a wonderful hotel, my family(including a 1 year old) and I stayed there last year with no problems and are planning to go again this year, and every year honestly. Straight across the street from the Lighthouse, very clean, well kept, gracious and very helpful staff, and family friendly! It is a quiet peaceful hotel within easy walking distance of the beach, water park area, pier and plenty of little shops and wonderful restaurants. This was our favorite hotel experience, and we have stayed in quite a few hotels. The price is more than reasonable for the quality and location and excellent breakfast bar! read more

I'm so disappointed today to learn that a hotel I thought fondly of is dishonest in it's pricing. Twice I booked rooms at St. Simons Inn by the Lighthouse through their own website and twice I was told the price listed was a "glitch" that wouldn't be honored. I even offered screenshots of my reservation and they still refused. The manager saw the pricing in an email that they sent me directly. Be wary of booking here...apparently the price listed isn't always what they will honor read more
