After going to this RV park for the past five years we were approached by the female manager and…read moreanother gentleman yesterday at 11:17 AM saying that it was past check out time and that we had to leave. We were clearly in the process of packing up and loading up the Jeep. Over the years, we have become friendly with the owner, Troy, who is almost always friendly and cordial. The only time he wasn't, was a few years back when I expressed frustration that it had then been the the second time that we reserved our spot with a previous manager on the phone and lost our reservation so didn't have a space available when we got there. He was at the park at the time, so he was able to accommodate us in a spot with no hookups. When I complained that this was the second time this had happened, he said, "Do you want to stay here or not?" I almost said, 'Actually, no' and would have went to another park at that time but but my tongue because, 1) I was tired and just looking to get set up and obviously not wanting to start looking for another park to stay at on short notice. 2) figured he was just having a bad day so we let it slide based on all of our previous positive conversations and didn't want to throw away years of good experiences, over one short tempered remark.
Fast forward to this vacation and our dealings with the new manager. When my wife checked in, the woman was rude and refused to honor either our Good Sam membership or Passport America memberships. When my wife pointed out that they are in fact listed as both a Good Sam and Passport America campground she reluctantly honored the Good Sam discount but not Passport America telling us that they are no longer a Passport America Campground. Ok, then it shouldn't be promoted as one.
At 11:17, and with them standing outside my door telling us it was time to leave and, she said 'We have the space booked and check-in time is at 2 o'clock. If they get here early, we have nowhere to put them.' I replied, "So you're willing to let someone else check in before 2, but you're going to knock on our door to kick us out at 11? What about one of the other 5 vacant spaces next to us?" Not that she could have known, but our 7 month old baby was napping and we were going to be gone by noon anyway) In our 253 days of camping, have we ever been approached by anyone who knocked on our door, until now. We woke up the baby early and we ended up pulling out at 11:38am. I stopped at the office on the way out to tell her if Troy was there I'd be speaking to him, but since he wasn't, and hired her to run the park, it was her that I was speaking to. When I told her our 7 month old baby was taking a nap and was to be up at noon anyway, she said, "I don't care"; she literally said those words. I replied that as the manager of someone else's park, you should be saying something to the effect that 'you're right sir, I'm just following the rules, I agree, I'm sorry for the inconvenience, etc. She then said "I'm NOT sorry". I replied with "....and THAT is the reason we will never be back and will specially be mentioning you in our review", as I walked out the door.
So here it is.
The park is nice and my two little girls have loved playing with the chickens and feeding the pigs over the years but we cannot return as long as that manager is present. I was obviously not willing to let the actual owner's short comment, years ago, stop us from coming back. But when a park grows to the point that the owner needs help and customers can't deal with the owner directly, unfortunately this is what happens. RVing is supposed to be fun and relaxing, not stressful and argumentative. There are way too many other parks that are not run by rude managers.
