But, in the end the weight always came back on. More importantly, none of these diets solved the issues that were making me feel poorly. This past winter I hit a new low. Not only was I at my all time heaviest, but I was experiencing severe acid reflux, allergy symptoms and almost daily headaches. At my wits end and very discouraged, my wife urged me to get the help I needed, not just put a temporary bandaid on these problems. I reached out to Jen Thomas of Evolved Nutrition in Wallingford, hoping she might be able to help. Within three weeks of working with Jen, my headaches had disappeared (I haven't had a single headache in over three months working with Jen) and I was able to come off of my acid reflux medication. I am eating better than I ever have thanks to the food plan Jen designed specifically for me. Her knowledge of nutrition and what foods are needed to achieve certain goals is absolutely amazing. Oh, and did I mention that I lost 30 lbs., too! I would recommend Jen and Evolved Nutrition to anyone that wants to make a positive, healthy change in their life. Big movements like hanging, climbing, crawling, jumping, balancing, squatting, and running are broken down into parts that we master, focusing on form at every stage. I'm seeing how all these movements can (and should) be used every day in our daily lives, and because of this, I find myself practicing at home all the time in ways I never would have considered before. I am stronger and healthier every week, and I am discovering that I can move in ways I never was able to before. I can do monkey bars and climb trees now with my kids, do pull ups, sit on the floor for extended periods of time, lift large objects correctly, and go for runs- all things that were unthinkable last year. I also really love the small group setting of the classes and the individual attention you receive. Each participant works with a program that is tailored to their specific needs. It is very noncompetitive and supportive- kind of the antidote to CrossFit! So, if you are looking for just a plain old gym to crank out a workout and then go home and sit around all day, this isn't your place. I told him how extensive my gut issues were (SIBO and IBS) how I felt incredibly defeated since spending over a year with a coach who was not supportive of me, consistently checking in or adjusting my meal plan/gym routine, or taking into consideration the acuity of my medical symptoms when the majority of it came down to eating and overall wellness. I made the call and the rest has been history. I couldn't lean out for the life of me in order to win a bodybuilding show and was eating the same meals with same macro's despite advocating that I was seeing no progress. Since working with Charles, I started eating twice as much food, every 4 hours, I was doing a fraction of the cardio, he was an expert who tailored everything I touched down to the amount of hydrogen water, as well as gut health recommendations, and everything in between. One day I saw a friend post about her weight loss journey/ success. She told me about the "fat loss coach". I was skeptical at first, but desperate. I went to see him & questioned his plan as it was different than what I had been taught to believe. I mean I hadn't eaten more than 1/2 cup of carbs a day in about 10 years & he wanted me to eat them 4 times a day?? Well I put my trust in the process. He set a meal plan for me & 12 week goal.
