Salaam, everyone! Mention anything Middle Eastern and my friend gets excited. She loves her culture and where she comes from so she gets excited to have meals that are close to home for her. We've talked about trying Jenin Village for awhile but life finds a way to keep everyone busy. But we got lucky and our schedules lined up and we dropped in on a chilly Wednesday afternoon. I told her that she may have to explain some of the menu to me. As culturally diverse as Peoria is, there doesn't seem to be nearly as many Middle Eastern restaurants to try as there are Mexican, Italian, and Chinese... so my knowledge of them is iffy at best. We walked in to an empty restaurant (possible missing the lunch rush) and were quickly seated. I had the pleasure of having the sun in my eyes so I fidgeted with the blinds until I could see properly and stop fidgeting in my seat. Ivonne took the time to explain a few of the menu offerings and what things would taste like. She said she would get super mad if I ordered a burger. Thankfully I was fully on-board for trying something new. That new thing was Beef Shawarma. Ivonne got a mixed platter of their meats that was basically a 3-meat kabob meal. She said the offerings were large and I said I was hungry but boy, did it look like a challenge once the food was placed in front of us. The wait was a bit longer than usual for the restaurant but I assume that is from them cooking everything to order. My first few bites were confusing. It being middle eastern food, I was expecting it to have some spice... some kick... some pizzah (is that how you spell that?). This was 180 the other direction. This was sweet. Like, nutmeg sweet. Once my mind wrapped itself around the idea of sweet meat and rice, I was fully on board. The rice was long grain which was new for me to try. I asked Ivonne if I am supposed to mix the rice and beef together and she said it's however you want. So, I alternated bites of them together and them separate. I didn't have a preference on how I ate it cause it was delicious either way. Ivonne let me try her pita bread and dip and that was also confusing at first. The hummus dip made me think of peanut butter due to the texture but after I was halfway through the pita bread, I was starting to appreciate the flavor and texture. We also ordered water with our meals and that came out in bottled water. Not sure if that's normal here but something to note if you are thirsty. They may charge for additional bottles if you are feeling like a camel? The interior was nice, clean yet somewhat sparse. I am used to ethnic restaurants taking pride in their culture and adorning the walls with things that evoke the feeling of their country. Jenin does the complete opposite and keeps it plain. While it would've been nice to see some Middle Eastern stuff hanging up, it doesn't detract from how the food tastes at all. This isn't the first Middle Eastern place I've ate at and it won't be the last. Ivonne told me about all the places in the Peoria area and we are going to try and visit them all starting in 2024, adulting be damned! read more

Ford was interesting and service was attentive. We didn't have a lot of time and they seemed to care about helping us out. Decor is a little underwhelming but was fine for a quick lunch. The guy at the front door was very rude and very disrespectful with my service dog and I. Even when I advised him that I have all my service dog's documents he just asked me to leave the restaurant and didn't even let me to place an order to take out. I totally don't recommend this restaurant. Very racist, Zero family oriented and poor customer service! We shared a Jenin Village appetizer plate and a chicken schawarma wrap. The appetizer plated consisted of hummus, baba ghanoush, grape leaves, falafel, and Arabic bread. The hummus, baba ghanoush, and Arabic bread were very fresh and had excellent flavor. The grape leaves were okay but I have had much better across town at Chef Moussa's. The falafel was crisp and very good (especially dipped in hummus). The chicken schawarma was a compete disappointment. The dish was redolent of cinnamon and little more. There was no garlic flavor at all. The chicken was tasteless and the peppers were overcooked and mushy. It was a Saturday night, and for a while our party was the only table occupied. The only other visitors were one couple. Very suspicious for a Saturday night. Also, don't expect to be wowed by the table service; you receive plasticware rather than silverware. We both ordered water to drink and received a bottle of water each. I understand they may be short-staffed but that sort of thing seems tacky to me. Good food. The restaurant is a really nice quiet place with good privacy to eat with family and kids. I had got chicken shawarma sandwich and chicken Shawarma with Rice. Falafels also not bad - worth a try ( i have had better) The rice is really good and fragrant. The shawarma sandwich was awesome. A good 15 minutes inside from east Peoria. Has dedicated parking lot. Food - 7 or 8/10. My first impression once I stepped in... wow ! this restaurant has beautiful ambience. We tried 3 dishes. Half chicken tikka platter - delicious and chicken was so perfectly cooked and so tender Chicken shish kabob- Tasty and the rice served with platter was yumm! Chicken biryani- was extremely spicy. If the spice was less I'm sure it would have been a great dish as well. Overall, give this restaurant a try guys. It's a new place and these people are trying hard to grow. read more

Most beautiful and delicious authentic Mediterranean eats in the region! Attention to detail in preparation, flavor and presentation. We had Baba ghanoush, hummus, Kafka kebab platter and mixed shawarma platter. All superb. The Jasmine rice which accompanied is delicately seasoned and worthy of its own praise. We ordered take out from here for the first time recently for about $65 bucks. It was A LoT of food and all of it was tasty. Even their yellow rice was yummy. We also tried the Labanah which is a middle eastern yogurt topped with olive oil and it was very fresh. This new restaurant is working hard to break into a market full of similar places. Highlights of the meal were the homemade hummus with fresh baked pita. Very smooth, well balanced, and well presented. The Turkish coffee smelled great and was reported to be so. The homemade baklava was mom's favorite. Accompanying rice was perfectly cooked and very well seasoned. The large hummus and the kabob assortment combined was more than the three of us could finish. Beautiful open interior of the restaurant. Service was prompt, kind, and informative. Server answered many of our questions and was very friendly. However, our drinks were not refilled once and they got empty mid-meal. Their hummus was okay, nothing special. However, the pita that came with it was piping hot and fluffy. Loved their pita bread. Tahini sauce and garlic sauce that accompanied our entrees were all right as well. The yogurt cucumber salad was very refreshing, light, and airy. My friend and I got the Jenin Village Mixed Grill. The shish kabob was nice and soft, and packed a little bit of flavor. The chicken shish tawook was moist and tender, and had a little more flavor than the shish kabob. The real winner of the dish was the kufta kabab. Unexpectedly, it had some unique flavor and a nice kick to it with the spices. I was impressed and along with the rice it made for an enjoyable combination. Next, we ordered the Iskandar Turkish Kebab which was underwhelming. It was good but it reminded me of a Mediterranean horseshoe (crunchy Arabic bread on the bottom with some beef on top smothered in okay sauces). We finished with the Manakeesh Zataar. I truly enjoy Zataar and was ecstatic to see it on the menu. It was very large, cheap, and fit the bill. Excellent bread and a large amount of seasoning on top. My friend enjoyed the Turkish Coffee which was reasonably priced and came out in a big cup. The next day I returned and bought the Mixed Meat Shawarma Platter. Do not get this because it is not worth the price of $14. The platter was filled with rice topped only with a small amount of chicken and beef. I would definitely come here again for the Kufta Kabab and Manakeesh Zataar. ***Beware of the credit card holders that your check comes in. Instead of a traditional slot where your card sticks out by sitting vertically, there is a deep horizontal sleeve. It is easy to forget your card in it. read more

The sitting area in the restaurant is very appealing, and is better and more formal then the competing Mediterranean restaurants in the area. Food is for the most part, very good. The rice was moist, the salad was crisp and fresh, the flavor was perfect. Just the right amount of spice. The falafel appetizer was good and crisp, but a bit dry. I've been to the Holy Land twice and LOVE the food you can find on the streets of the Old City of Jerusalem. This place fulfilled that craving! Kibbeh was incredible! Schwarma and Kebab were both good. The real star is the homemade hummus and fresh bread!
