I can not say enough good things about Jennifer Jacobson Photography. My husband and I searched high and low in the bay area for a photographer who could meet our desired standards. We were amazed at the impressive images on Jen's website and couldn't wait for her to photograph our children. We have done 3 sessions with Jen (a newborn session with our son and then again with our daughter, and most recently a toddler session with both kids). Each time I receive the pictures from the shoot, my breath is absolutely taken away by the beauty and simplicity of the images. She manages to capture not only my children's darling faces, but their little personalities as well. The natural smiles, the long eyelashes, the rascally looks....all of the things you could never capture in a forced, posed, photograph. Her editing and lighting are delicious as well. With my daughter, we were privileged to have Jen come to the hospital just hours after I had given birth. Even in that sterile setting, she was able to capture the quiet beauty of our new baby girl meeting the world, and us for the first time. I will always treasure those images, even the ones I thought I would hate because of my "I just gave birth" appearance. We could not have made a better choice in asking her to come to the hospital. In our most recent shoot, Jen was able to get our highly energetic 5 year old to just be himself, rather then shooting a forced "cheese" smile every time he looked at her. And, to my surprise, she somehow managed to capture images of the sibling bond that is just beginning to form in our little ones. If you are on the fence about hiring a photographer in the bay area, my advice is to STOP hesitating and call Jen TODAY! We hired Jen to take photos of our family after our second child arrived. I was nervous about the photo shoot, being two weeks postpartum and managing a baby and toddler. We had so much fun doing our family portrait with Jen! She was great at showing us how to get our 15 month old to laugh, and we ended up with some beautiful shots. We hired Jen to take family pictures following the birth of our 5th child! Although I was captivated by the gorgeous pictures on her website, I was a little worried that our pictures might not turn out as well, since we live in a very old and small house. Jen has taken our family photos twice over the last few years. We loved the first ones so much we went back for seconds! A few exceptional things that set Jen apart from other high-quality photographers: 1. She wants you to enjoy the experience. Her philosophy seems to be that you need to enjoy the moment in order to truly get the quality photos you need. 2. She is overly patient. During our session, I felt a little anxious that I was making her wait for me to nurse my baby or for our family to adjust our clothes, but it didn't seem to bother her for a moment. In fact, she seemed like she had all the time in the world for us. That attitude allowed me to relax and enjoy our time together even more. 3. She discusses with you ahead of time all of the details of your family, your preferences, your dreams, your purpose for the photos. This allows the time you spend together for her to capture your most tender, ideal moments. With us, she worked to schedule the perfect time. She came over just as the baby was waking up from a nap so he wouldn't be tired or grumpy. We also determined that we would take photos in our home and at a separate location in our area. This preplanning really added up and made great use of our time. 4. We have 5 children. She was not intimidated by us. In fact, she met all of our huge demands of wanting photos of each parent with each child, photos of the children in pairs, and a family photo where we are all smiling. I know that sounds crazy (because it is), but she was willing to see our dreams through. Mission accomplished! 5. Jen artistically creates beauty. You cannot be disappointed with her quality and excellence. Just today we received our photos and we will cherish them always. As my husband was looking through them he stopped at each one to say, "Oh! And look that this one!" Each picture turned out perfectly (even the out-takes!). read more

Our experience with Jen was amazing! The first thing she did when she arrived at our house was to ask all kinds of questions about our family. What we are like, our kids' hobbies, etc. so that her photos could reflect who we are at this time in our lives. I loved that she did that. We booked a double session because we wanted to do photos both at our home and also at another location. Jen spent a lot of time with us and because she was professional, fun to be around and patient with the kids what could have been a really hard day was actually a lot of fun! We worked with Jen on our maternity and newborn photo shoot after the birth of twins. I can't recommend her highly enough and wish I could give her more than 5 stars! The finished product speaks for itself as you can see on her blog and website -- Jen's work is phenomenal and you'll want to frame so many prints your head will spin -- so that's not the reason for my review. Jen was amazing to work and without her I really don't see how we would have pulled off a photo shoot to begin with being as overwhelmed and sleep deprived as we were. Jen spent the majority of the morning with us, made my husband and I feel relaxed and never rushed. She even helped me soothe the twins a couple times and offered to bottle feed one of them when my hands were full. Jen is absolutely fantastic! Jen did my son's newborn photo shoot at five weeks. As a first time mom, I hadn't been aware that babies' fussiness peaks at 5-6 weeks.
