I got a vegetarian red curry here and a portion of Thai crackers. The curry portion was generous and the vegetables, including red pepper, peas and carrots were fresh and tasty. I particularly enjoy the tofu and potato. The Thai crackers (£1.5) are far better than Chinese crackers too even though Chinese takeaway tend to provide free crackers with main meal orders. I've also enjoyed hot spicy curries for years, and maybe it's an age thing, but I find their vegetarian curry to be very hot, maybe it's just me and an age thing but I now add a teaspoon of sugar to their curry to help balance the spice - it works up to a point. They have a notice up advising no variation to dishes - perhaps this is to keep their food authentic or maybe to prevent cheaper ingredients being substituted for more expensive ones. The coconut rice too (£2.5) is really flavoursome. In an earlier review of this place I'd noted that the additional food cost of this takeaway tested against main dishes from local Chinese takeaways might harm business. The fact is that while this remains the case, Chinese takeaway prices have since increased, but poor quality, poor tasting Chinese food is still endemic here and the quality and fresh taste of this Thai food is very far ahead by any measure and worth the extra cost and I'll stick with them.

My wish would be that they open a restaurant, its a bit of a journey for us and it would be nice to sit in a more relaxed environment. The two places I wanted to be open weren't - Soi 9 Thai & Dragon Express - so I ended up here as it was one of two Chinese take outs with lights on. Spice of India on the same almost empty street was open but if you read my review on it you'll see why I opted for Chinese. I didn't know what I wanted to eat but my wife had decided on salted chilli chicken, so when I looked at the menu it had a meal for two deal at £13.80 that included salted chilli chicken so I ordered it. The deal was this chicken meal, chicken fried rice, chicken curry, a tub of curry sauce, cheap and unpleasant, pre prepared prawn crackers and a small portion of chips. The food was a bit better than ok but I couldn't say it was really good so a border line three stars. And while it was ok it's certainly not on my return visit list.

We got two portions of sushi; one with avocado and the other topped with seaweed. They were both excellent tasting but the soy sauce offered was not naturally fermented/brewed kikkoman sauce but the Chinese chemical muck. And no pickled ginger in sight. The two mains of dunburi duck with rice and vegetables and teriyaki salmon with thin noodles - we couid have had thick noodles - and the same vegetables also in this dish (both £13.5) were were great tasting and a good portion with one caveat - the duck portion was miserable and chopped into crumb sized bits I've never seen a dwarf duck. If I was reviewing this place on the duck dish alone it would be one star at best; truly ripped off on this one at £13.5. All in all what we had was fresh cooked and darn tasty and duck accepted the portions were good. We would return but the soy sauce should be quality to match the quality sushi. And pickled ginger is a must and there's no excuse for it not being there. Staff friendly, credit cards accepted (unlike almost all Chinese takeaways) and zero green stars as all cartons, containers, knives, forks, soy portions, wasabi etc mostly plastic.

This is unwelcome evidence of that growing but unwelcome mind set where the aim is to deliver the cheapest food possible, at the highest price possible, with no expense spent, to maximise profit and to heck with the customer. So I suppose it's a borderline three stars but as I said having discovered the Dragon Express we'll return there.
