I have been coming here since we moved to Iowa City in 2020. Have not seen Dr. Jensen in last couple years as I have eye issues and go to ophthalmologists (vs optometrist) at UIHC. I have been coming here for my lenses. Last couple of pair are anything but scratch resistant despite paying the premium. They (now Elevate Eyecare) personalize the issue at the store, pushed back on my as a customer, repeatedly tried to go back on the warrantee. I had to get VSP engaged to get them to deliver. I tried to reach out to regional manager Christy, however she never returned my email. I have escalated within Elevate Eyecare but expectations are set low. I would advise NOT supporting Elevate Eyecare at any Iowa City location. read more

As someone who is still relatively new to the Iowa City area, I needed to find a reputable eye doctor. Due to a move and COVID it had been almost 3 years since my last eye exam. Jensen came up in several online searches, as well as being a eyecare center who accepts my insurance. I had a great experience from the time I entered Jensen to the time I left. Dr. Diaz is very friendly and has a sense of humor. He addressed some questions I had and got me all set-up with some products to try. I'm not sure if Dr. Diaz is a relief Dr. or on staff because he doesn't have a bio on Jensen's website. If you prefer to see a particular Dr. make sure to mention this when scheduling an appointment. I didn't have a preference. My entire visit lasted just under an hour. When I called to make an appointment, and due to my availability, they were 2-weeks or so out. Jensen does have extended business hours on Monday nights for individuals who have to schedule around jobs, etc. Very clean and inviting awaiting area. Recommend. read more

I used Jensen Eyecare Center for more than 10 years for both my eye exam and purchasing frames and lenses. Dr. Jensen's services as an optometrist were adequate, so I kept going to him for years since my husband had used him for over 20 years and liked Dr. Jensen as a person. Although it was not required, I purchased frames and lenses right after my eye exam out of convenience, not because they had pretty frames. Before the 2020 pandemic, I was usually satisfied with their eyeglasses. However, after the pandemic, I (and my husband, separately) had to repeatedly return glasses for remaking: sometimes because the visual focus was not in the right place in the lenses, other times, the glasses had some lab-created cuts/nicks (and in my husband's case one time, the prescription was actually incorrect and Dr. Jensen kindly redid the eye exam and provided a correct prescription, and at another time, the lab forgot the anti-glare reflection and the technicians did not catch that mistake). Although I was not completely satisfied with past eyeglasses after paying almost $500 to have glasses made through Jensen, I kept the glasses and wore them, partially out of loyalty to Dr. Jensen, since we had gone there for eye exams and glasses for many years and he seemed like a nice person who we thought cared about us as customers and people. When I was supposed to get my new glasses two months ago, I did not hear from the office for more than 2 weeks. When I called the office, they said they had to return the glasses to the one lab they use because the lenses did not pass inspection. When I finally got my new glasses after about 32 days, I noticed a deep incision/nick in the middle portion of the left lens, so I returned to Jensen, and the technician confirmed the existence of the defect and returned the glasses to the lab for a second time. Another 2 weeks later, I received a text message from Jensen's office saying that "Your lenses did not pass inspection." Because 6 weeks and 5 days had passed since my initial order and the glasses were not ready yet, I wanted to cancel my order, so my husband called Jensen Eyecare on my behalf and left a message asking them politely to return my phone call. To my shock, Jensen's office manager called informing me that Dr. Jensen's policy is that if a customer is not satisfied with their glasses and frame service and wants to cancel the order, the office will no longer provide any future services to that customer. The manager told my husband that I had no choice in the matter and that Dr. Jensen had decided to not provide me and my husband any future services because our eyeglasses had been returned so often. When my husband pointed out to the manager that in this last episode with their lab, it was Jensen's office that had unilaterally 2 out of 3 times assessed that the glasses had failed inspection, and that I had only returned the glasses once for the obvious cut/nick in the lens, which their office confirmed, the manager said that Dr. Jensen allegedly had already made his decision to deny me and my husband any future services, including eye exams. When the office manager mentioned that this was not the first time this had happened, my husband concurred and explained that we have had repeated problems in the past because the glasses were similarly returned from the lab to Jensen and then to us with defects and had to be returned to be remade. My husband told the manager, "Yes, they were returned because they had defects. You wouldn't expect us to be satisfied with defective glasses, would you? And most of the time YOU, Jensen Eyecare, returned them, not us." The manager said, "Yes, we returned them because we knew you would not be happy with them." And my husband replied, "Yes, you're right. We would not be happy with defective glasses and you returned them on your own because you knew there was something wrong with them. Otherwise, why would you return them to the lab if they were okay?" After pausing, the manager mentioned something about loss of personnel at the lab due to the pandemic, etc. When my husband asked to speak to Dr. Jensen, my husband was told that we were not allowed to. That allegedly Dr. Jensen does not speak to customers directly but only through his office staff. The Jensen Eyecare manager was very professional and responsible. But after 10 years of going to Jensen (over 20 years for my husband) we were greatly saddened and disappointed with Dr. Jensen's alleged unilateral cancellation of future services when we did nothing wrong but complain about the repeated defects in the glasses that came back from the lab and asked about cancelling the glasses because we did not trust the lab's quality and because it was the lab we were not happy with not Dr. Jensen in his role as an optometrist. read more

Do not buy glasses here, they sell glasses they don't have, a month later and they finally tell you they are on backorder. My co worker said hers took 3 months. That's a quarter of a year... They hardly ever answer their phone and if they do they say they'll call you back and never call you back. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. read more

My husband and I have been coming to Jensen Eyecare for the past 12 years and I have recommended countless people to the office. I have only seen Dr. Jensen, though I have heard that the other doctor in the office is very professional as well. I recently had to make a medical appointment (not just an annual eye check up) and they got me in the next day. They have a very attentive and polite staff that can assist in picking out frames or answering questions about contacts. They also have a large selection of children's frames and specialty sports and reading frames. I have been going the eye doctor since I was 9 and have seen many different optometrists. Oddly, I actually look forward to going each year now that I have such a great doctor! read more

I Understand Many Business going Through rough time due to Covid-19, but doesn't give you the right not follow with their Patient or client, I was schedule an Appointment on June 5th for Eye Exam, The Doctor (Becky) is very nice and amazing Doctor after we done with Exam she sat with one her Team to help me with New Pairs of Glasses and Contact as well I sat down and I choose the pair of glasses and she told they don't have them on stock the individual is she order was very nice, I order them and I paid $ 300 on top of my insurance as of the contact she give me a trail to use and to see how comfortable they would be, On June 15th I got text stated part of my order is here want there and picked up the two pairs of glasses I told them I want change the contact from monthly to weekly and she a different individual told she would place the order then now and it will be in two weeks, On June 25th I got text my order is here and ready for pick, on my way to pick the contact I get another text 15 minutes after the first stating disregard the previous the message, I immediately called and ask what happen to my eye contact she ask for my DOB I give to front individual she stated they don't have to order in they mixed my order with someone else and she told me to wait till Monday, I waited till Wednesday and I still haven't heard from the doctor office so I called and I ask what's going the individual stated they didn't have pair of contact on warehouse or the company they order from I immediately ask when are you going let me know she skipped the questions and told me I would get them by July 10th waited till then No Call and No Update from Doctor, I called in today went through the same precodure as before and even worse I was put in hold for 15 minutes till someone pick up the phone said how can I help you, there communication is one of the worse, with straight attitude an individual by the name ( Stew) going tell me I don't have your order I don't know when they going have it also telling me have trail if you want come pick up you can if you don't it's up to me, OVERALL I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO GO THIS CLINIC NOT ONLY WORTH BUT THEIR STAFF ARE ONE OF THE WORK, THEIR DOCTORS ARE BETTER THEN STAFFING THERES NO COMMUNICATION NO FOLLOW UP! I hadn't had an eye exam for quite some time and knew I needed an update. I looked around for somewhere that worked with my vision insurance and I'm so glad it was Jensen! I got my prescription updated and had a blast trying on new frames. It was actually a fun experience trying on all sorts of frames from the "big name" brands and finding the perfect fit. I had also never thought I could wear contacts regularly but with the exam and trial periods they offer, I now can go without frames when I want. There are so many options and they were really helpful with all my questions and concerns on the brands and colors...a wonderful experience. I can't wait to pick out some new frames and try some new contacts! read more

I just had the most awful experience that I think I have ever had at a doctor's office. I would avoid Jensen Eyecare Center at all costs. I was there for a routine eye exam and the receptionist let the few people in the waiting room, along with me, know that I might be charged for my routine eye exam hundreds of dollars if it turned medical upon the doctor's call and needed to pay that immediately. She loudly said my medical insurance would not cover because I had not paid my insurance. That was not true, but nonetheless she felt the need to let EVERYONE in this big office know my circumstances. I tried to call my insurance and of course "due to circumstances beyond their control". could not take my call. When I said it sounded like they just wanted to make a few hundred extra dollars today, but I would go ahead because I had a high deductible, she said she canceled my appointment! Wow! She did schedule it back, but after reconsideration thought how can I trust them??? She was rude and inconsiderate but it is probably her environment and they probably don't pay her enough and obviously they don't train her. I am thankful that I was warned ahead of time to go elsewhere and I highly recommend you do as well! read more
