Indepth eye exams using speciality equipment!! Dr Hand found an issue with my eyes that no other optometrist had found!

I'm not sure what all the bad reviews are about. The staff has always been wonderful, and Dr Hand is great. Fabulous selection of designer glasses. Love my Gucci. And YSL frames. Do not go here!!! Terrible, rude front office. They did not give a summary of care post visit for one of my kids. On another kid, they unnecessarily changed brands of contacts and then the admin played games with a mailed prescription by indicating a parameter that did not exist for that brand (the admin actually modified the physician's order). So it cannot be filled. read more

This place no longer carries Persol frames. But is listed as the only place to perchase Persol's in Iowa City. Inexperienced front staff that lacks empathy. Thank goodness, one of the NEW employees had the fortitude to ask me a single qualifying question about my insurance! That one question saved me a lot of time. read more

I was highly disappointed with the office. One of the workers smelled like alcohol. When I went to pick out glasses, clearly their intent was to get a high priced frame not one that works for me and my face shape. Not nice and I agree, they make you feel dumb. Every doctors office should be able to explain and talk to customers without them feeling dumb because it is their job to inform the clients on something they are knowledgeable on. Just because their location is central, doesn't mean their care is good. read more

Worst overall experience ever. I would put zero star if I can. I've spent $400 in this store, and the employees treated me like I'm a retard. They told me my eyeglasses should come on October 27. I went to the store on October 29, they've told me my eyeglasses is still not arrive till Oct 31, so I went to the store again, but of course my eyeglasses weren't there, and they said there is nothing they can if you don't want to be treated like a dumbass, highly recommend not to go. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I have been experiencing vision issues due to migraines and had an exam to see if an alteration in prescription could help my symptoms. The staff is the WORST and least professional I have ever experienced during my last 13 years of eye care. They were rude, unhelpful, and unorganized. After being told that they couldn't exchange my current contacts, I asked what I was supposed to do with the six month supply I currently have, the girl responded, "I don't care." So unprofessional. Do NOT go here -- what a corrupt operation. I went to get an updated RX for both optical and contact, as I'm considering lasik and wanted to see if the prescription has been consistent. I also needed an updated prescription to order new contacts, of the same brand (Acuvue) that I was wearing to my appointment. They pushed a different brand of contacts on me, one of those trial boxes. I said I'd be happy to try it, since I know they need to push samples like any other doctors office, but was very clear that I was happy with the kind I've been using for years and would likely continue with those. Fast forward to about a month later, as I'm ordering a new batch of contact lenses, I hear back from the Acuvue supplier that my prescription is for a different brand: the one they gave me samples for at my appointment. I reach out to Advanced Eye Care asking them to amend the prescription so I can get my trusted Acuvue lenses as I told the doctor I would want. They said they couldn't do that, they'd need to see me again to fit me for the Acuvue lenses, even though I was wearing my Acuvue lenses at the initial appointment. I explained that I would be out of town for months on work and I need the contact lenses now as I've run out, vision is sort of an important thing to have each day, and I cannot wait until I'm back in town. Also, they gave me a prescription that I didn't ask for, so services were NOT rendered, yet my request for a refund was denied. They tried to gaslight me with lies, claiming I told the doctor I was not happy with my Acuvues... just totally made up arguments to cover themselves. Unethical medical practice with unpleasant staff. Would give 0 stars if I could, like some of the previous reviews. Save yourself time, money, and the headache -- find somewhere else to go, trust me! read more

While my appointment was quick and painless (although I hate that puff of air that they're still using to test for glaucoma), and the optometrist I met with was perfectly nice, the customer service offered by the front desk staff was less than stellar. They didn't seem very knowledgeable, and it felt like if they didn't NEED to help you, then they just weren't going to do it. I think they might have a high turnover rate at the shop, which probably contributes to the bad customer service. Hopefully, it'll improve. read more

Long time resident of Iowa City and lifetime member of the glasses club, I decided to try a new optometrist simply because of the slightly more convenient location. Never should have even bothered, what an exceptional waste of time. The front desk staff was less than helpful when I first tried to schedule my appointment, nevermind rude and abrasive with a distinct lack of interest to say the least. I've worked customer service before, I mean at least pretend you want to be there, right? I managed to schedule an appointment, but upon walking in I was promptly asked whether I would be interested in a contact lens exam. As this was my primary reason for scheduling the exam, which was also stated during my initial scheduling attempt, I replied yes. I found this confusing initially, because this was never considered a separate exam at my previous optometrists. Upon further discussion I was informed that there would be an second fee of about $70, in addition to the $115 regular exam fee. Why this would be the case simply boggles the mind, especially considering I've had contacts for years and the only reason I need an exam anyways is the legal requirement mandating a renewed contact lens prescription every few months in order to purchase new contacts. Keep in mind that these exams, even my initial contact lens consultation at my previous optometrist which one should expect to be more expensive, did not exceed $120! Now I'm a reasonable person and I didn't really need a normal exam, only the contact lens exam. Thus, I asked if it was possible to only have the contacts exam, rather than both. I was promptly told that no, this would not be possible, because "That's just how we do things here.". At this point I figured there would be some sort of justification for the radically overpriced exams and asked as much, but was provided no explanation beyond "These are just our set prices." I'm sorry, but charging almost double what similar optometrists charge and leaving a customer feeling practically tricked into twice as large a bill as expected is not how I, nor other Americans I believe, expect an honest organization to conduct business. I suspect this office has become complacent and comfortable with ethically questionable business practices after years of taking advantage of unaware, poorly informed undergraduate students that walk in off the pentacrest across the street with no coherent idea of what a reasonable price for an eye exam is. If I could give you a 0/5 I would. What an inordinate waste of my time and at the end of the day I am still left without contacts and now must reschedule with my regular optometrist for weeks from now. I wouldn't be surprised if "Advanced" Eyecare tried to charge me a cancellation fee for my appointment, though if they do I'll be sure never to pay it on principle and to update this review accordingly. I can't believe I even bothered to write a Yelp review, but that is how bad my experience was. Thanks for nothing. P.S. "eyecare" is 2 words. Your profession does not give you free reign over the English language in addition to preying on unsuspecting college students. Looking back, I should have taken that as a clear indicator of my likely experience the moment I saw the sign. read more

We are in town for 5 days for a diving meet, and my daughter forgot to pack her contacts with her. I googled this place up, which is close to our meet location, and they not only have the exact brand, prescription, and size she needs, they gave them to her for free. They knew we won't become returning customers but they were still this nice and generous to us. This is what I would call "outstanding customer service"! read more

I'd like to start off by saying that the appointment I had here itself was good, and I have no complaints about the optometrist I saw. However, I am extremely disappointed in the service I received here from the other staff. Almost every review on here mentions how bad the front desk staff is and I'd have to agree. I came in over a month ago to get measurements for the new glasses lenses I needed, and was told the lenses would be in in 7-9 business days. I came in to the office after more than 10 business days had passed and asked if the lenses had come in yet. They looked around and told me no, but that they would give me a call when they did. I waited another two weeks to contact them again, and yesterday when I called to check they told me that they had never even ordered them in the first place because they were waiting on the measurements... they had taken my measurements a month ago and just never written them down. The lack of care for customers by the front desk staff is significant, and judging by the amount of negative reviews I would say it's something that needs to be dealt with. read more

This place gives ok service, but is on the expensive side. However, definitely do NOT use them if you want transitions lenses. I got mine at Advanced Eye Care and the coatings developed wrinkles after a couple of years. This was after the warranty period, so AEC would not do anything to fix them. I have had to go back 4 times, and they wanted me to come back for a fifth check up. Their time is precious, but your time is not a worry to them. And they are also very unorganized in many ways.Here is the story:I have been a customer of 7 years to them, but no longer. I went in a few weeks ago, I came for my yearly eye checkup and said that I had wanted to switch from CTR contacts to soft contacts. So I had some tests and then they had asked me to come back for another check up, which is fine. And then, I was supposed to get enough spares to last me to that check up and they must not have been able to count enough for me. Then I came back (I live an hour away) to get more spares, and they said they couldn't find them so I should return. I was mad, but I left, and then called back and had asked why I they were not found, and they said they had then found them, and I then had to go back again for them. Then I went in for the fourth time for my check up, and I was 5 minutes late, and was told to have a seat. The lady then got off the computer after a couple minutes and went to go talk to the doctor, and the doctor said to tell me she was not in. And I had mentioned that I know she is hear, and the front desk worker then said well she said you missed the cut off so you can make another appointment. I said okay, well I will take my business elsewhere, they said okay, let them know if I want to reschedule. Therefore, my family is 6 is no longer going there. read more
