Our family began seeing Dr. Shaw about five years after both my wife and son got whiplash when a…read moredriver made an illegal U-turn in front of my wife. I took them to ER only to be offered some opioids for the pain with no other alternatives. My wife has had success with chiropractors in the past, but always sought the ones that were Activator certified. The Activator is similar to a pen that is spring loaded, allowing for very accurate adjustments without the "popping or cracking" in manual adjustments. For those that don't like the cracking noise, or have very sensitive necks, this works very well. My wife was very impressed with Dr. Shaw's abilities and encouraged me to see him for my neck and back issues. My neck had a limited range of motion from several injuries from the past, and driving was becoming an issue because I had turn my entire body to check for blind spots when changing lanes. After an initial screening, he began his work. I had never been to a chiropracter before but even after the first adjustment, I immediately felt so much better. The pain and stiffness in my neck and back were greatly reduced. After several adjustments and other therapies he provided, I had 100% range of motion in my neck. Five years later, the full range of motion is still there. I have Dr. Shaw to thank for that! I still go in occasionally for an adjustment , but my life since than has been much more tolerable allowing me to enjoy an active lifestyle. Dr. Shaw is great working with kids too. He helped out my son after that near collision five years ago. He was complaining of occasional dizziness, so naturally we took him to our pediatrician only to be told that there was nothing wrong with him. After one adjustment, my boy was feeling normal again. He still goes in a couple times of year when we notice he is out of alignment. I would strongly recommend Dr. Shaw as your chiropractor, he has a great demeanor, is very knowledgeable in this and all fields related to pain management and therapy and has great packages that allow this to be very affordable. There have been several times over the years that we've needed him (our…read morewhole family has been to him at one time or another) and not only has he solved our pain and alignment problems gently and expertly, but he never urges you to come over and over again when it's not necessary; a problem with other chiropractors I've visited. As another reviewer mentioned, he almost puts himself out of a job except that his care has garnered a lot of loyalty from us. My son recently went to another chiropractor when Gurney wasn't available and was immediately bombarded with "necessary" x-rays and a long-term treatment plan for a supposed spinal defect. The bill that came and was submitted to insurance (thank goodness we're insured) for two visits was over $500.00! A typical patient portion for us with Aspen is $40.00 to $60.00 The worst I've ever been has been after a bad sledding accident where we went over a small ramp and landed right on my tailbone. I literally had to crawl part way back to my car and could hardly move. Dr. Gurney was able to realign my spine and ribs and use deep heat treatments and almost immediately I felt better and I think even as bad as that was, it was about only 4 treatments. Just recently I had a little spill on the tennis court and had a nagging pain in my shoulder and back. I put off going to the chiropractor for 4 weeks until it got to the point where I could no longer sleep on my side or even remove a t-shirt without help. Two visits and a months worth of problems were gone. I always wonder what would have happened if I'd gone to a GP...cortizone shots? Physical therapy for weeks? I just wished I'd gone in sooner. If you have a nagging pain that you just can't seem to get over; back pain, stuck ankle or a tricky finger, or worse you should consider chiropractic and especially Dr. Gurney...he's gentle, honest, and very knowledgeable and won't take you for a ride or keep working on you if you need to go to a doctor.
