A year later the check engine light came on and I again took this to Dayton Auto Repair. About 10 minutes after taking the jeep into the bay the owner came out stated that they found and fixed the problem. He stated that it was a common problem with this year and model and an easy fix . He showed me what to look for and how to repair it myself if it happens again and did not charge me for the repair. The guy was very honest and charged my AC right up to be ice cold again. He checked all of my tubes, lines, and parts than could relate to any coolant leaks and found nothing but said to bring it back if I have any issues. Overall, I had my car returned to me in just half a day and felt like the price he charged me was fair. He gave me an honest assessment of my compressor (likely one main reason behind my A/C issue at the age my car is at) and I feel great about coming back here if I ever need anything else.

They did not inform me that there would be a charge to inspect for the leak and I did NOT authorize this charge. After inspecting my car, they gave me a written estimate to remove and replace the rear differential cover for $595. I consulted with my friend, who is a master mechanic, and he stated it was highly unlikely that this repair would be needed. I decided to get a second opinion and drove over to the Harley Swain Subaru dealership in Hermiston (over an hour drive each way). After their inspection, they found absolutely nothing wrong with my car and performed the inspection FOR FREE!!! They also stated that this type of repair was almost unheard of. I returned to speak to the owner of Walla Walla Transmission and expressed my dissatisfaction with their analysis of the problem. I also requested a refund of the inspection fee, as I did NOT authorize the charge. The owner was unapologetic and stated that the suggested repair was just 'their opinion' and did not seem to care that their analysis of the problem was wrong. We try to stay local and support businesses here in Walla Walla, but always recommend getting a second opinion. My experience with dealers has been negative, but to my surprise, this Subaru dealer is the exception. They have been honest, knowledgeable and very helpful. We have been extremely happy with Harley Swain and highly recommend them to other Subaru owners -- it is definitely worth the drive.

Escalated to the parts and service manager, and was literally ready to purchase an additional trailer with Uriah that day. And they don't care. I was disappointed in this lack of customer service :( It's extremely rare I give a bad review, but when top management of an establishment isn't willing to honor a warranty, even more so when you have a customer with a check book out to purchase another trailer that same day...that says something. I hope that things change down the road, and there's an opportunity to 'shop local' again. Tri Cities has some good alternatives that stand behind their warranty w/o dickering.
