After setting up a time to bring my car by, I showed up and he clearly explained the process and his pricing so there wouldn't be any surprises as to what I could expect. The guy was very honest and charged my AC right up to be ice cold again. He checked all of my tubes, lines, and parts than could relate to any coolant leaks and found nothing but said to bring it back if I have any issues. Overall, I had my car returned to me in just half a day and felt like the price he charged me was fair. I came in from Seattle during new years to see family, but while doing some local shopping the next day my car was making some uh-oh noises. I called and the owner was really helpful. I thought I was going to have to stay an extra day but he managed to replace all 4 of my break pads that day. He was very good at describing the problem and what caused it. I'm so glad this was the first place I took my car after moving to Walla Walla. It's one of the only shops in town that works on German cars. My Jetta was making weird noises and although I was in no position financially to have major repairs done, I needed a professional opinion. I dropped my keys off in the door slot while Tim was out and he got back to me by the end of the day. It turned out to be a minimal issue and I got my car the next morning. Unauthorized repairs were done on my car despite me having explicitly stated in person, over text, and in a sheet explaining what I would like done/looked at on my car in detail, that I wanted to be contacted and given price information before I would authorize any repairs. The justification for performing these unauthorized repairs was that the cost was "not that much" in comparison to the diagnostic fee. That call should have been mine to make, and I find it very inappropriate that my requests for information about the work being done on my vehicle were blatantly ignored and a call was made regarding my finances by someone with no insights to them. My oil was changed and the other services, that I authorized, were performed satisfactorily, however I did not feel as though I was taken seriously in this environment. read more

After attending the 2019 "Wheeling Walla Walla Weekend" show, I went to leave for home (which is in Battle Ground, WA, 250 miles away) on Sunday morning and my '69 Mach 1died and it would not start. A couple of my club members stuck around and we spent a few hours diagnosing and working on the car in the pouring rain to no avail. We decided it was the ignition box. My fellow hot rodder's headed home, I got my room back at the hotel, then contacted the local hot rod club for advice on who to use in the area and was told to contact Tim at Champs Garage the next morning. I looked the garage up on the web and the reviews were excellent. Instead of waiting for the next morning, I left both an email and voicemail using the contact information on the garage's website. I was surprised to get a call from Tim early Sunday evening. He advised he would meet me in the hotel lot early the next morning and would see if he could figure what was wrong. He was there at 8am and he determined it was likely the ignition box, so I had a flatbed take me and the car over to Champs Garage. Tim verified it was a bad ignition box, we found one at a local auto parts store and Tim did a super clean install and wiring job on the new box. Not one hiccup in the whole process, and he had me on my way home in no time at all. He only charged me for the labor and I felt the cost was very reasonable based on the emergency nature of the job and the sanitary nature of his install. This man knows what he is doing. Here's my story: Our family was visiting Walla Walla for a long weekend of wine tasting and sunny weather. As we drove over from Portland, our 05 Honda Odyssey minivan started having engine trouble and losing power. We nevertheless made it into town by driving at slow speeds. We were tempted to drive to the Honda dealer in the Tri-Cities, but I found Champs Garage positively reviewed on Yelp. I showed up at this classic little garage first thing Friday morning. It was very conveniently located downtown -- close to where we were staying. The owner, Tim, was sweeping the garage when I arrived. Tim was incredibly nice and professional in discussing the engine problem with me. And he worked very efficiently. By mid-morning my repair (failed ignition coil) was complete. Because I was so pleased and relieved, I asked him to go ahead and perform some additional maintenance that I had regrettably delayed. Knowing we were in town only through the weekend, Tim completed all the work on the same Friday we brought it in. Our van ran beautifully for the rest of the trip! I called to ask how much it would cost to get regular mileage maintenance done on my car. Instead of giving me a definite quote, I was told come to the shop so my car could be looked at. I didn't understand why he had to look at my car for a quote to perform regular manufacturer recommended maintenance. After much back and forth I took my car to the shop at the pre-arranged time, but the shop was closed. I called Mr. Demitor who reported he wouldn't be at his shop for several hours. I was greatly incovenienced, came back several hours later only to be given the exact cost of the maintenance service (without looking at the car). TIM IS A CHAMP! When my daughter's Jetta started acting up, sounding awful (she's in WW for college, away from home & our regular mechanic), she was worried & didn't want to drive it. Tim accepted her car right away, though he was really pretty busy at the time. Great garage! For parents in California of a Whitman College student, a good place for the student's car repairs is essential. The student is only in CA less than 60 days a year. Tim did a great job of water pump, power steering, and fan repair on a BMW 330i and he acted as a "general contractor" coordinating with the glass shop for windshield repairs, getting the car there and back, giving my student a ride, etc. Way above the call of duty. Tim has serviced my 1990s-era Volvo for the last four years and has consistently done top-notch work. He has changed out a timing belt, repaired the transmission, and even agreed to swap out the heater core, which was a mammoth job (he had to pull apart the entire front console of the interior then reassemble it - wow!). Tim is honest and reliable, and the only mechanic I will ever take my car to. He does very reasonably-priced work and also communicates well to make sure I'm informed about different repair options and their costs. Our daughter goes to school in Walla Walla and Tim has worked on her BMW for the past year. This fall, the day after we drove the car from Minnesota to Walla Walla the car died. We had it checked by one company near where it died then asked Tim what he thought. We had it towed to Champs and Tim looked at it for free. To fix it would cost more than the value of the car. He let us store it there until we decided what to do with it. He also advised us how to sell it and what price to ask for. Not only that, he took care of the transaction with the person who bought the car. Tim didn't charge us a dime. That kind of customer service is hard to come by.
