Many contractors quotes were way over our strict budget and that was just for flooring, so it was a pleasure and relief when we found Beyond Contracting. We were immediately comfortable with Lucas Paprocki and Valdek Paprocki. Their pricing was terrific and they worked with us on making the budget succeed. Each day of the 3 month project, the crew left our large lobby in immaculate condition considering it was under complete renovation. Our residents were respected, and communication was terrific. It was pleasure to be updated on how the project was going and they were always available to answer any questions. Workmanship was outstanding, project was completed on time, and I can't say enough about the superb customer service. Lucas went out of his way several times after hours on his personal time to assist with requests I had. Kav, Karim, and the team at Goldcon Construction are absolutely amazing. Words really cannot…read moredescribe how grateful we are to Goldcon - but since this is a Google review, I will try my best to paint a picture of how we worked together. Prior to selecting Goldcon, we had interviewed about 15 contractors. All of them were great sales people, they all sounded like they knew what they were doing, so narrowing it down was difficult. We eventually got it down to 3 companies (Goldcon and 2 others) and signed up to a design document with 1 of them that was not Goldcon. Typically in construction the contractors will charge a "Cost Plus" model or a "Fixed Price". For fixed price, you need to have a perfectly crafted scoping document so you know exactly what you are paying for. For "Cost Plus" you are paying a percentage on top of the cost of the project. Virtually all the contractors wanted to use a Cost Plus Model given all the uncertainties with supplies and labour. I just didn't like this idea because it didn't feel like the contractors would make an effort to negotiate the best price for us. Goldcon was one of the only contractors that was willing to do a fixed price for the build - but they were concerned that we would need to submit a variety of change orders if the supplies that we had chosen were out of stock. So we decided to settle on a fixed management fee and pay Goldcon in installments that were tied to milestones reached. As soon as we signed on the dotted lines, they got to work. And they worked fast. Trades were organized extremely efficiently, one after another. Multiple quotes were presented to us for each trade and they often were able to get their existing partners to match prices of lower price suppliers. Design ideas were brought to the table and discussed at length, but very quickly and efficiently. Communication was effortless, we setup a WhatsApp group and kept a history of all the things we discussed. When we had a difference of opinion, they always reverted back to "It's your house, you have whatever you like, but we just think XYZ would make the most sense". This was reassuring to us and most of the times we ended up going with their suggestions and it paid off. At no point in the process did we feel like we were being bullied into doing something or were we uncomfortable with the process. So overall, there are 100's of reasons to choose Goldcon and ZERO reasons to work with someone else. If you are looking for a builder for a new house or to do a larger renovation, Goldcon is the only company that I would recommend. The carpet in the apartment was really old and the bathroom needed a new vanity. Kaveh helped me pick out the laminate flooring that would look good and that I didn't have to spend and arm and leg to get. They quickly took out the disgusting old carpet and installed the new flooring which looks great. Second, they took out the old rusted vanity and added a new vanity which really makes my fiancé happy. I love coming to a home which I can be comfortable in and a home that looks good. We were consulted extensively by Rose, Hoda and the Head Designer Zaineb. They listened and delivered. It was a big project with new floors, cabinets, huge pantry, fireplace, powder room, live wall, new doors and so many other details. The Head Designer, who we absolutely love, Zaineb Al-Saffar was on top of everything -- a great asset to have when we needed any communication with any concerns or questions. She worked very closely with both of us and with her Chief Contractor Mo; Mo was in charge of overseeing the whole project. Mo is great, knows his job, and is quite a perfectionist. A pleasure to work with. Central to the team, Ash and Sarah were absolutely perfect. Renovating our place like no others and recommending solutions to our concerns. We impulsively hired VGC for our kitchen renovation because I was naive. I believe they do charge a…read morelot of hidden costs and push these "change order" fees that is ridiculous. They gave us a budget for certain items like say our sink... and because I wanted to choose a more expensive sink than their predicted cost, they were going to charge us a change order fee. It makes no sense, if I want to spend a few hundred dollars more on my sink why do they reap financial benefit from it when they gave us a lowball amount to spend in the first place. We were also plagued with mismanagement of our project. The project manager, Ali, they assigned to us was inexperienced and made several errors that delayed our project. He was definitely hired based on nepotism as he was the best friend of the manager, Hussain. The PM was fairly clueless, luckily my husband is a carpenter and he really had to micromanage many aspects of the project. This is a shame since we thought we were hiring VGC to take the stress of managing the projects ourselves. Then Ali left us halfway through project for personal reason. We did get a better PM, Mo after but he had to deal with the aftermath of the first guy plus the first contractor, Hamid decided to leave our project midway due to a dispute with how the company mismanaged payment to him. I was then harassed for weeks by Hamid to pay him or else he'd put a lien on our home. Meanwhile, the manager Hussain did not check in once to clarify or reassure us that we did not owe the contractor anything outstanding as we made payment on time to VGC. Then Hamid further disclosed that VGC definitely overcharge their clients and he said our project should not have taken as long as it did to complete, which left a very negative feeling for us. I felt anxious throughout thinking Hamid was going to show up and threaten my family and I have small children at home, it was not a good feeling. There was also design flaws where calculations were flawed and it required my husband to step in and alter the design and measurements. All in all the project was a disaster for us and we do feel overcharged. I do not recommend them. They were not professional and the trades they hire are also not professional. Don't be persuaded by the smooth salesman pitch from the manager, it's all smoke and mirrors because when things went wrong they definitely didn't care about their customer.
