I live downtown, she lives south, and if she's making that kind of effort, you know this place has to be good. We got there on a Saturday around 1 and the place was pretty chill, not too crowded, which was actually perfect. From the moment we walked in, everyone was friendly even the security guard at the metal detector. Yeah, you have to go through a metal detector to get in, which threw me off for a second, but once you're inside, the vibes are great. The music was on point, and to be honest all the servers were super welcoming to us and made us feel at home. We ended up at the bar and the bartender was super nice, made us feel welcome, and our drinks were strong exactly how we asked. The place is clean, the service was solid, and the energy was relaxed but good. I ordered the half dark chicken with cabbage. The chicken was actually really good, well-seasoned and juicy, and the cabbage was decent too. My only gripe is that the portions are smaller than I'm used to, but honestly I wasn't mad because the flavors made up for it. All in all, it was such a fun time catching up with my friend, eating good food, and just vibing. I would definitely come back, and I can see why my friend keeps hyping this place up. It took over an hour to get my food for a lunch special so I would've thought my food would've came out fresh everything it came out dry as a piece of chalk. I did say something to our server and she looked at it, and I do appreciate her hospitality because she did take the chicken back and she got me some fresh chicken. If you've been to 1 Jerk Villa, you've been to them all. This is the new location which is pretty visually nice! It features a beautiful patio area that the other 2 locations dont have. Walking in they have a metal detector and security *side eye* We were seated promptly and ordered various items. The food took about 25mins. Everything came out fresh. We both ordered drinks that were too sweet and then ordered shots to help the drinks. Food tasted ok. Bill was $185 for 2. Which included the 18% gratuity. Server was pleasant, but advised they split the tips. Welp, thats not the customers problem. You knew that when you took the job ma'am. The coco bread arrived dry and past its prime, lacking the soft freshness it's known for. The oxtails were the most disappointing dish--stringy in texture, overly salty, and noticeably dry. The mac and cheese was surprisingly bland, offering none of the creaminess or of flavor expected. The string beans were served cold, lagging flavor. Ate at Jerk Villa on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. This is our second time eating at this restaurant. The first time was good. The second time what a turn of event occurred when our bill came. The security check was well appreciated and security at the door was very nice. The bus server was also nice. Eventually the server approached us after her sitting at the bar as it was pretty slow when we first arrived. She eventually came and took our order. The food was pretty good but there were no rice and beans with our order, not a big deal. Normally jerk chicken dinner comes with rice and peas. The food was pretty good but the chicken in the jerk chicken dinner was kind of skimpy. But the drink prices were the real issue. I ordered 2 triple threat drinks. They were good and strong and was on point, but the price was a different story. The price on the drink menu was $13 but when the bill came the price listed was $15. I was pretty upset when I saw this and asked to speak with the manager. She came over and listened to my concerns but did absolutely nothing to adjust the bill. She mentioned that the system that servers uses says one drink price and the drink menu is in the process of being adjusted. I mentioned to her that I understand that, but I bought the drink based on what the drink menu said. She said they have a policy where prices are subject to change without notice but this is nowhere stated on the drink menu. She refused to adjust the bill down $4in which I was due, as I ordered two drinks that were incorrectly stated versus what the systems shows when the servers put in the order. Obviously, this restaurant cares nothing about retaining customers and fixing issues in abiding by price menu versus what is actually being charged that the customer does not see. Please be careful of what you are ordering and making sure it matches up with what is in the system versus what the menus shows. read more

It took me a couple of days to write this review because I wanted to gather my thoughts. This was my first time visiting this restaurant, and while I had high hopes based on the recommendations, my experience was far from pleasant. When my party of six and I arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty. Despite that, we waited about 15-20 minutes before anyone came to take our order. We ordered our drinks, meals, and a slice of cake all at once. About 10 minutes later, our waitress returned to inform us that they were out of corn. A short while after that, she came back again to say there were no sweet potatoes. At that point, the entrée I had chosen was also unavailable. I asked about my cake several times and kept being told, "It's coming." Eventually, I suggested that the waitress just tell us what was available--she said, "Everything else on the menu." However, when one person in my party ordered four wings and I ordered four wings for my granddaughter, the waitress returned 15 minutes later to say they didn't have wings either. We then asked to speak with the manager, but only the kitchen manager came out. Unfortunately, he wasn't very helpful in explaining why so many items were unavailable. We decided to just pay for our drinks and appetizer and leave, but the waitress said the food that was available was ready, so we asked to have it boxed to go. After waiting another 30 minutes, I asked where the food was--only to be told it had been thrown out and had to be remade. We again asked to speak with the actual manager, but no one ever came. Throughout the ordeal, we were careful to reassure our waitress that none of this was her fault--we understood she had no control over the inventory. She remained polite and professional, which we appreciated. In the end, I finally received my slice of cake as we were preparing to leave. No manager ever showed up, more than half of what we ordered was unavailable, and the restaurant didn't even offer to comp our drinks for the long wait and poor experience. We arrived just after noon and didn't leave until after 4 PM--not because we were socializing, but simply waiting for food and drinks. This was my first time coming and my last. First off I'd like to mention our food and drinks were amazing but our service was absolutely terrible. I went for happy hour for my partners birthday and our server was not attentive at all. Our server never gave us her name or the check when we asked for it. As we were ordering she was attending to other tables around us and ignoring us as we were ordering. We had to constantly repeat only because she wasnt paying attention. She forgot to give us sauce, straws, and napkins and we had to keep repeating it to her. Every time we tried to get her attention she turned around and walked away. They chopped the breast up to cover up the fact they don't give you the thigh. Of I'm passing over $20 a plate, GIVE ME ALL MY FOOD! I left Jamaican Jerk Villa on 79th Street after receiving the dryest, rudest customer service of my life. I was craving jerk food and since I heard so many good things about JJV, I decided to check it out. I got increasingly frustrated as I stood around a bar with about a dozen customers with no acknowledgement or instruction on placing and order and then seeing people come in and pick-up online orders. I asked the cashier if I should order online and she rudely told me "no", she would be right with me. As I stood there utterly confused as to how this whole operation worked, I asked people if it was like this all the time and everyone unanimously agreed. They also said no one complains so JJV has no motivation to change. Finally, the cashier dryly took my order, a jerk chicken dinner with plantains and was told "we don't have plantains"; I loudly SMH'ed and left. How in the hell don't you have plantains at a jerk restaurant??? And why wasn't there an announcement or sign indicating they were out? I hear people rave about how delicious this food is all the time but I'll never find out because I won't be back. Best Jerk Chicken in Chicago. Has been consistently good for many many years. I've also had the oxtail, jerk catfish and curry goat as well and none of them have ever disappointed me. This place is going downhill fast. You now have to be searched and go through a metal detector to go in and order and pick up food. They would have been better off staying in the little hole in the wall down the street where the food was always fresh. Now the food tastes old sometimes or they serve you scraps. Rice is mushy and they never have plantains or yams. They told me to get plantains I need to come before 1:00. That sounds ridiculous when you're open some nights until 10:00.
