I recommend Frank Witz without hesitation because 1) He is a Saratoga Springs native with over 30 years of roofing expertise 2) He is an Owns Corning preferred roofer and therefore offered the Owens Corning transferable 50 year warranty for our new roof, which includes full labor for the first 10 years. At $400 extra cost, this warranty seemed reasonable to us because having it will likely increase our home's future resale value. 3) Two of our neighbors were pleased with the cost and reroofing results using Frank's service within the last month, and I was informed by one of them that Frank is the roofer of choice some of our area home builders. 4) Frank's written estimate included everything (clean up and haul away old roofing) and he was able to schedule our job within two weeks of placing our order. There were no cost overages. Frank reasonably asked for only 1/3 down by check on the day the job started with the balance to be paid after completion. He capped a white PVC plumbing exhaust vent pipe for which I provided the ventilated cap at no extra charge. 5) Athough our neighbors homes were completed in one day (with a rain delay on one of them) our roof is larger with a more complex design and took two days straight. Fortunately the rain held off, but each day had record temperatures reaching over 100° real feel! Frank assured me that his workers were used to working under those extreme conditions. He used a team of workers of Ecuadorian Indigenous extraction who were short in stature but amazingly strong, who Frank assured me were US citizens. Despite the extreme heat, they worked relentlessly, only taking hydration and lunch breaks, from the time they arrived just before 7 AM until early evening the first day and until the job was completed by late afternoon on the second day. They protected our outside patio furniture, grill, HVAC unit, and home generator with large mesh. The job site cleanup was good including using magnets to remove stray roofing nails from our lawn. They left a small pile of garbage adjacent to our driveway that Frank removed within two days of job completion. Frank returned for a walk around to examine the job and be paid the balance four days after job completion. The only concern I had was that there were some openings located between the shingles and the vinyl ceiling beneath the eaves where the "bird boxes" or "returns" on the roof were located. He told me he would have "one of his guys" stop by within a week to seal these openings to prevent wasps and birds from nesting in these areas. They returned the next business day and sealed all the openings to my satisfaction. Less than two weeks after the job was completed, epic thunderstorms with torrential rains associated with area tornadoes barreled through our town and there were no roof leaks. The Slatestone Gray color we chose has a three dimensional appearance and perfectly matched our siding and 24 year old vinyl shutters. We hired Blue Bird Roofing (formerly known as Kornerstone Roofing) after our neighbor's tree fell on our house. The tree damaged our upper roof and caused extensive structural damage to our back porch, so we knew we needed a roofing company that could repair more than just our damaged shingles. After calling several local roofing companies I was feeling a little overwhelmed - some wanted to just repair the shingles and subcontract the needed structural repairs, others tried to upsell me on features I wasn't looking for, and others told me they weren't willing to work with the insurance company on our behalf to get the needed repairs covered. Finally, I called Blue Bird Roofing and I am so glad I did!!! The owner came out the next day and did a thorough inspection of the damages, both on the interior and exterior of my home, with pictures to show me where repairs were needed. Even though there was snow & ice on our roof he didn't hesitate to get up there and look around, and when he found damaged shingles on our 2nd story roof causing a leak into our attic he sent someone the next day to chisel away the ice to patch our roof so we wouldn't get any more water damage up there. After waiting months for the insurance to approve our claim they finally did and the owner of Blue Bird Roofing was able to pursuade them to cover the cost of all the damages which was amazing! The Blue Bird Roofing team got to work right away on making the needed repairs. They put a new roof on our porch, repaired damaged rafters and beams, fixed cracked and water damaged trim, repaired torn screens, replaced a piece of damaged aluminum siding on our house, installed new gutters and guards, installed new siding, really they did everything that needed to be done so our porch looked exactly like it did before the tree fell. The Blue Bird Roofing team worked all day and came back the following evening to do more repairs. The owner even spent several hours on a rainy Saturday doing detailed repairs inside our porch because he wanted everything to look perfect. We hired Rich Home Exteriors to redo the exterior of our home. We had multiple issues throughout…read morethe project. The work being done seemed subpar at best. There did not seem to be any oversight by Rich Home Exteriors to keep track of the work and quality of work being done. Many of the windows that were being wrapped were improperly done and had to be redone, as well as an exterior door and some trim along the garage. We had asked them to remove some existing solid wood soffits along the garage eaves and install ventilation. Initially they simply covered over the existing wood, which did not allow for ventilation. It took a few attempts to get it properly ventilated. The threshold on our new front door was very unstable and flexed every time it was stepped on. We had to mention these issues a number of times before they were remedied. We had a number of other minor issues as well. We chose Rich Home Exteriors because of the positive reviews we had read online. However, our experience was very different from what we had read. We decided to put up an honest review of what our experience was like. It was a very stressful situation for us. We had to continually monitor the work that was being done ourselves.

However, he was not licensed and insured so I wouldn't use him. Called Rich's, who is licensed and insured, and they came by to look at it. There assessment was that the door was fine (and it was), and the rotted wood was just a kick plate. All flashing and seal around the door was fine. Just a couple of dollars to replace the kick plate and all is fine. Plan on using them for some additional repairs. I would highly recommend them.
