I was in Waycross for work and when I offered to buy my client's staff breakfast, the unanimous decision was this place. The food was great and the staff was so happy! The remainder is why its 4 and not 5 stars. So, I placed an order early that morning and that's where my adventure began. I went to the wrong one twice! This was completely my fault. However, it would have helped someone like myself, in on business and not familiar with the area, if they would have offered to call the other location to make sure I was headed the right way. The sides were cold - not warm even- the fried Pork chop tasted old- maybe fried in old grease and not enjoyable at all. Food costed $15 plus without even a drink. I have eat here for over 20 years and I have never had these issues. They wanted $.45 for a small water cup and $.75 for a large one. I elected not to get one! this place was so good I ate there twice in a two day stay in Waycross. The first day I got the chicken breast dinner, with fried okra, mashed potatoes and gravy. I got some fries and a side of mac n cheese for my son. All thru the drive thru, which was busy but very fast. Got back to my hotel and unpacked. They only gave me one utensil set, which ended up okay because my kid was sick and didnt eat anyway. I ate...every little bite. Chicken was juicy and tender, no gravy on it tho, I was disappointed. The mashed potatoes and gravy were phenomenal. The okra was fresh and crispy. I could do without the Texas toast. Went back the next day and got the same order and also the fried steak dinner with fries and green beans. Steak was surprisingly tender for a drive thru place and very flavorful. Jerry js is an excellent place to eat at if you are into country style meals. The staff there is amazing and are always willing to help you if you have any confusion about a meal. They have Restaurant style dine in options and have amazing waiters who come serve your table as soon as you sit down. They have a well-rounded variety of breakfast options. My personal favorite are there Cinnamin rolls but if you are hungry, I would suggest the "the three-meat platter," It is a great meal that will leave you full. Their coffee is to die for if you are a coffee fan, they have multiple creams to choose from to give you whatever flavor you are looking for. If you are a light eater I would suggest the Texas Sunrise, a toasted sandwich with bacon and eggs in the middle that will leave your mouth watery. Around 12 breakfast ends, and it is lunchtime. Their lunch is not that great, but the chicken tenders are amazing. You can choose between 4 and 6, fries or grilled. You can ask to get it dipped in their signature sauce (country gold). It is like a mixture between sweet and sour sauce and ranch and has a gold color. It may sound nasty, but it is rather good; also, the meal comes with fries. The fries are good but very skinny and curly. Drink options are regular, but they have a secret recipe for their lemonade that tastes good, not too sour, and not too sweet. Now their dinner is the best in the town with Home-style dishes, customer service is still good throughout the day and the top two meals I would recommend is the backyard burger, a freshly grilled burger with a toasted bun with topping or the steak platter that comes with a steak of your liking with a baked potato. You have the option to tip the waiters and me personally, I would like them to be terrific. They all treat me so nicely and even know my name and know what I'm getting before I even order. read more

I have eaten her at least a dozen times over the past ten years and it is consistently good in food quality and service. It is a no frills place with counter service and self serve drinks. But the country food they serve is always good and the dining room is always spotless. Once you order, get your drinks and silverware and shortly after you get to table you are served your food, hot and delicious. I usually love their food. Last year & now this year I tried eating the Holiday Chicken & dressing. But I WILL NOT be trying to eat this dish again. The chicken has fat, blubber & little bones it. It messes the good dressing up. My taste is I have NO fat in my dishes nor bones. The chicken & rice dish the chicken is the same. I'm so disappointed I can't eat these because you don't clean the chicken up better. Gross!! Fat in my mouth is so yucky. I'll go try someone else's holiday dishes. I went there Tonite and I don't think I will be back I order my food and had to wait a hour to get it and they wasn't even busy they was to busy playing around on the back and then I get home and all 4 of my meals was wrong and my daughter back yard burger we ask for bo pickles or onions on it because she won't eat it and of course it's on there and then I paid for tater extra and they didn't even give me my tater or cocktail sauce and all the food was cold and very nasty read more

Hmmm.....ok, the difference between a fast food chain and Jerry J's? single owner fast food joint that delivers your food to your table (when you dine in). Very strange looking. From the outside it looks like a sit-down diner place. You walk inside and it looks like a fast food place (go to the front counter to place your order and they hand you your cup and a number card to be able to deliver your food when it is ready). Yellow commercial eggs (industrial...yuck) that I asked for cooked medium and they were really too undercooked w/ runny whites, a serving of grits ladled on the plate and a huge biscuit that looked almost pre-made and wasn't memorable. I was asked if I wanted butter for my biscuit and I said yes. I was handed little containers of whipped margarine of some kind (nasty fake butter). My partner ordered two eggs over easy w/ meat. His eggs were just so-so and there were three pieces of meat (big slab of ham, a sausage patty and a piece of bacon). Eeek....we are just too into good quality food to say this place was a place we'd visit again. It was no McDonalds (we don't eat fast food chain food), but this is really not much different from them. read more

Just moved to Waycross, Ga. about two weeks ago. The wife and I decide to try this establishment and we are glad we did. It was very good cooking the kind momma use to make. I had a platter that consisted of three meats and two veggies for $8.99 cant beat that. I will definitely be going back. This restaurant is a well-known Waycross institution. My husband is a faithful breakfast customer and enjoys both the food and the friendliness of the staff. This morning, however, he had a completely different experience. He observed and heard the manager on duty repeatedly berating the staff. He told one woman he was going to have her "work her fat off" and another to "stop wasting time talking with the customers". My husband indicated his displeasure, but I feel this is completely inappropriate and should be noted publicly. read more

The decor was lovely, its very welcoming. The wait staff were very friendly. My breakfast was a bowl with grits, sausage crumbs and a very hard, dry egg, my daughter had pancakes with an order of sausage gravy biscuits and sweet tea. When I first saw my egg, it appeared to have been cooked hours before I arrived, the grits tasted as if someone poured oil from cooked sausage or bacon into the pot, they were not creamy grits, I didn't even realize grits could be ruined until today. There was nothing special about the pancakes my daughter ordered but they were the best thing on the table, my daughter's biscuits were like bricks under grease, white grease with sausage flakes and the tea seemed as sweet as a syrup concentrate. This place used to have very good breakfast, I should have paid closer attention to the lack of customers during a normally busy time of day. The prices are in line for better food, much better than what we were served. If this were my only bad experience at Jerry Js, Plant ave., I'd have never yelped, this was my third & last bad experience in a row, no longer a stopping off point during my travels. Went to the Plant Ave. store and used a gift card about 2 weeks ago, cashier refused the gift card, but then said they would take it. She didn't know they could if it said Hog n Bones on it. Now this week I went by on the way to work and I was told they don't take Jerry J's gift cards anymore. Well I was given $50.00 worth of cards, so now they want accept there now gift cards??? I've been to this place twice (once a few years ago and once last night) and it's always very good. I get the pork chops (because we don't have good southern pork chops in CA) and they always taste great. The sides taste pretty good. I've had the green beans, black eyed peas, fries and corn bread here and they are all average. The staff is friendly and helpful and they bring your food out to you. Always try to hit locally owned places when I travel. This place didn't disappoint. Had the grilled marinated chicken. It came with a side of BBQ which I didn't need because the chicken was tender and very flavorful. Also, had green beans and mac and cheese for sides. The two best items on the menu are the backyard burger and the country fried steak platter. The cornbread and biscuits are good. The vegetable sides are pretty good. Don't expect what your grandma would cook who lived on the farm and had the good vegetables and a freezer full of good vegetables. Don't get the pork chops unless you don't mind them being pink near the bone and so undercooked that if you get them for take out the coating on them is wet by the time you get them home. I have stopped trying the pork chops because this is their standard for being done. read more
