I didn't realize for years this place is a chain, because it has such a chill local feel to it. The pricing is fair and usually cheaper than Michael's or online pricing in my experience. Horrible customer service. The short girl with the mask on insulted my girlfriend and I as soon as we asked her a question. She would not help us find what we asked her for, and instead kept insisting that she knew how to complete our art project better than us. Super slow checking out and incredibly over priced. I've been going to Jerry's Artarama since long before it was Jerry's Artarama. Over the years, it's been very consistent in it's quality. Quality of product, quality of staff. When I first started going, it was during the college years. I'd relied on middle school and high school teacher's supplies in any previous art endeavors. Starting in college, I was on my own. I leaned on the staff, making sure I was getting the correct tools for my trade. They could not have been nicer. Even now, I think most employees are artists themselves, so they understand what you're looking for, and can guide one better. Products. A lot of folks who buy art products still like to walk into a physical location. You get to actually pick out your products, instead of just adding them to a virtual shopping cart. I always end up coming out of there with a thing or twenty that I did not plan on buying. The best part is you can try some of the items. I'm in an illustrators meet up group, and wanted to try something new. I found these gorgeous marker sets, drew a little on paper with them, and purchased half a dozen different shades. You can't do that with a non-physical location. I try to support Jerry's Artarama as much as I can, and I hope others do too, because in institution like them needs to stick around. read more

A friend took me to this unique place this past week. There are lots of artist supplies to look at, and we browsed for quite awhile before I finally found what I was looking for. Seems like they either need more isle "labels" or some items are just randomly placed without rhyme or reason. Four or five stars on the options available here.for artists of different kinds. 2.5 or 3 stars for employee service, the latter because none of the employees offered us assistance nor were they friendly. Nirvana for the art inspired Knoxville folks. In the age of big box stores this is a gem. But stick to your shopping list because friend - you WILL be coming out with a ton more of wonderful must haves like paints, pens, paper and more. I ordered an item online. After a couple of days of not hearing about it, I called. I was told that the item was a "drop ship" item, and that I should have noticed the symbol next to the item on the website. What??? So apparently they don't actually carry that item, and I was told it would be 2-3 weeks before the item was shipped. I tried to cancel the order, but was told I could not. What again??? I asked since the item was remote from even shipping, why couldn't I cancel it? When pressed, he admitted that it was a Jerry's Artarama policy, and that I could refuse the package when it arrived. I'm not sure in this day and age why this would be considered an acceptable alternative. I should have easily been able to cancel the order and have my money returned to my paypal account. Instead, they suggested I continue to wait the 2-3 weeks, refuse the package, and wait I can't even imagine how long until my money was refunded. Based on the reviews here, they are fine in person, but I do not recommend ordering online from them. read more

Worst customer service experience ever. For Christmas they sent us a completely busted, broken leaking set of sennelier paints with several items in the set missing! This wasn't a shipping error - the box was completely padded and intact - clearly they shipped it this way. When I opened it it fell apart in my hands, literally. I jumped through every stinking hoop they insisted upon including sending multiple photographs, repackaging and sending the busted item back to them and yet still no almost 200 dollar refund. Each time I contact them it's something else - refunds happen on tuesdays, no they happen on thursdays, we can't find your order, etc. etc. not only did they never apologize, they did not even seem surprised when I told them the condition the item arrived in. In fact the representative guessed how it arrived before I even told him! Wow. Talk about a known issue! They have not gone out of their way at all to offer good customer service and I certainly haven't received a prompt refund, (or even a slow one), so that I could purchase my intended gift elsewhere. Still waiting. Still can't find that order we've talked about 6 times Jerry's? It hasn't changed. Just shop elsewhere. How a business acts when there is a problem speaks volumes about them. read more

It seems like they always have one brand on sale at all times. Their canvas prices can't be beat...especially when they are on sale. Sign up for their mailing list and you will frequently receive 40% off coupons. They also offer a variety of classes, including some hand on demonstration classes put on by vendors. They are great classes and reasonably priced, often free. Everyone that works their is eager to assist you to make sure you find just what you are looking for. I absolutely love this place! They have a large selection of fine art products at great prices! If you are a student you can get a free membership which gives you 10% off all regularly priced items. I am a pastel artist and have a hard time finding local stores with quality pastels. Jerrys carries a wide variety in store and an even larger selection in their catalog... which the sales associates are happy to order for you. Pastels are a small section in the scheme of things though-they have everything from easels to specialty papers to canvas by the yard. The only thing I need to warn you about is expect to spend more than originally planned. Way to many great deals and things you didn't know you couldn't live without. Happy shopping! read more

Oh my gosh what a relief to find Jerrys. My teenage Picasso had left WalMart and Staples behind many miles ago and we had been seeig Michaels and JoAnns in the rear view mirror. If only I had found Jerrys sooner, I'd have saved a lot of gas from driving all over. But the exercise was good for me. I came in looking (hoping and dreaming, really) to find fountain pen and fountain pen paraphernalia. They have black (and turquoise?) pelikan ink on the shelf and a M nib Faber Castell Loom behind the display case, but that's it. The rest of the store has so much other art and craft stuff though that I am pretty sure I can't even accurately identify half of them. Granted, I'm no art major so my knowledge is very limited. I imagine that this is probably an art haven for those into the painting/drawing/sketching visual arts though. I certain had fun browsing through all the pens and pencils. read more
