Jerry's has been our family's go-to for many years. Especially for those last minute, usually before closing time, for school projects and missing items for the final touch. My discerning artists found everything needed and then some. Prices, not discounted, but watch for sale items even if you don't need them in the present. The staff are always helpful and even if you're browsing don't be afraid to ask. Everyone on staff are budding Picasso's. When I talk price, their Custom Framing comes at a premium, but satisfaction guaranteed. We've never been disappointed. Went in recently and instead of being greeted, was told to put my bag behind the counter. Curiously, other customers had bags and this only seemed to apply to me. Throughout my visit, employees followed me around, stared at me, and repeatedly asked me if I needed help in an unfriendly manner. It is clear that they suspected me of being a shoplifter from the moment I walked in the door- although my only crime is being under the age of 30. I had intended to purchase art supplies, but this demeaning treatment is the reason I will never be spending a dime there. I ordered the MUSEO ALU-Bar aluminum stretcher bars, and 35% of my $756.88 order was damaged. Jerry's only refunded 10% of my order. Because I was on a tight deadline to finish the paintings for my client, I had to repair 2 of the damaged stretcher bars and use them anyway. One of the cross brace supports with the accompanying cross brace connectors was damaged beyond repair and I could not use it. Apparently, it is Jerry's policy to not replace damaged items if the buyer is able to repair and use them. They refunded me for the unusable cross brace support but not for the 3 other damaged stretcher bars. The customer service representative I talked to was slow to respond and did not communicate clearly. I have been a loyal Jerry's customer for 11 years, but I will not be ordering from them again. I am going to ask my local art store to order the MUSEO Aluminum stretcher bars for me, because I can't trust Jerry's Artarama to ship them without damaging them. read more

When I commissioned my super talented artsy friend to create a masterpiece for my new place we needed art supplies to make the vision a reality. She knew exactly were to go, Jerry's. They had ALL. OF. THE. THINGS. Really! ALL of them! I was mesmerized by their vast selection of brushes and paints and canvas and ... EVERYTHING. As one who is not artistically inclined (not saying much, I know, but my artsy friend co-signs) I was impressed. We were easily able to get what we need for the painting, so many unique colors. Be warned though the prices here are slightly on the higher end. This coming from a gal that is used to going to Michael's or JoAnn's during 50% off sales with a 20% coupon in hand, so take that into consideration. read more

I am by no means an expert when it comes to Art Supply Stores, but this place seems to have everything you could possibly need. I come here a few times a year so my boys can stock up for school. An artist's dream!! I can spend hour wandering between the isles this art store. They carry tons of art supplies. The price is relatively cheaper than craft stores for paints but a tad higher for paper goods. I noticed a box of blank cards will cost $1.50 more here than at an A.C. Moore. They staff are cool too. There seems to be one at every corner and they appear to have good social skills. They will let you be but if notice you are looking for something they will appropriately offer their services. I haven't met anyone who was rude here. You can tell they are comfortable with their jobs. We went to Jerry's to do some Christmas shopping and to see if they carried a line of little notebooks that we like. My husband asked if they still carried them. This caused great annoyance for the person who was asked who responded curtly "this is not a stock item" and walked away.... no "can I show you something else," or "you might like this." We had intended to do quite a bit of shopping but this exchange left us cold. Went home and ordered the notebooks from Dick Blick. Not going back to Jerry's again. read more

Such an awesome place! I walked in with multiple supply lists for my classes this semester and not even 2 steps in, I was asked if I needed help finding everything on my list. I girl took my list and off we went! Great sales-especially now at the beginning of the school year, and if you get the club card (free to students) you get 10% each time you shop. My wife and I came into the store on 2/3/17. My wife has a pocketbook that crosses her torso as if it was a messenger bag. When we walked in we were explained the store policy of no backpacks or messenger bags, but they said don't worry about it. Another customer commented to the store clerk that my wife's bag was a pocketbook and not a messenger bag. The store clerk then said ok and let us begin to shop with the bag on my wife's shoulder. As soon as the other customer left the store they approached my wife and I and asked for her bag. In my opinion this is a ridiculous policy. If you can obviously see that the bag is neither a messenger bag nor a backpack to the point where other customers agree that it's neither then it isn't one. At the same time to say it's ok go ahead and shop, but when the other customer leaves approach people again and ask for the bag is not only rude and inconsiderate it also extremely unprofessional. If the policy is what the policy is then fine but don't be wishy washy about it like it was done today. We will NOT be coming back. read more

I went here a number of months ago with a friend and look forward to going back. This place is a few steps about Michael's and JoAnn Fabrics, as far as craft stores are concerned. Odds are, you can find just about anything you're looking for here for a fairly decent price. I was able to find things that I had been searching for for months: a pliable eraser, square canvasses, and little teeny canvases that came with miniature frames! This place is a bit of a drive for me, and the hours are a little strange, so I haven't been back in awhile, but I hope to return soon! read more

I love going to Jerry's, whether I need something or not; sometimes I just enjoy walking around, swooning and daydreaming about all the beautiful art supplies and what I could do with them. Jerry's has a good selection of materials for nearly every type of artist; painters, printers, and sculptors of all levels would be happy with the selection here. Products range from economy/student quality to high end professional grade, and are priced accordingly. They don't have much in the way of "crafting" supplies, but carry a large variety of fine art materials you couldn't get at Michaels. As any artist knows, supplies are not cheap, but Jerry's runs sales regularly and sends out coupons through their mailing list. If you plan on being a regular shopper, I'd recommend investing in a Jerry's Card, which gets you 10% off for $10 a year (free if you're a student!) read more

Jerry's is the most comprehensive art store for the area. If you are a professional they are very helpful verses a hobby store. Questions are quickly answered or they will make sure to find out for you. Also they will order in things not normally in store, if you have a need, such as printing presses. Occasionally I go to Dicks more often because of the coupons they send and the distance is closer. However the frames, paper, and selection in general is higher at Jerry's. read more

I took 2 inexpensive framed pictures, not looking to spend a lot. The 1st needed a mat. I wanted red, but that was custom. Ok, no. So she showed me something I thought was perfect until I realized it was too small for the picture. Asked if a bigger one could have the edges trimmed. Again - custom. The 2nd one i wanted the picture switched, and a new back and hanger. "We only work on our own frames. And besides it's a cheap frame and will probably fall apart. " (she made this comment several times. ) Now if the store was busy I could understand. But I was the only one there, and they weren't rushing to fill orders. And I wasn't asking to have it done for free. She went looking for a new frame and mat which I didn't want. When she couldn't find anything she disappeared. Took it home, found a very serviceable second backing with clips under the old one, and fixed it myself. And it hasn't fallen apart yet !!! read more

I'm an artist In search of a framer. When I called recently for a price estimate for an acid free mat, the sales associate to whom I spoke was unhelpful, not to mention hostile. I was totally turned off by her lack of professionalism. Even though it will take some effort to find a framer, I will not use Jerry's. Even rethinking them for my art supplies, I was so turned off. I've been getting supplies here since sophomore year of college. My professor actually made us all get on bus to pick up paint and class materials here. They have a great assortment of real sable brushes (very expensive) but if you are a student, you get to sign up for a discount card for free. They have student grade oil paint (van gogh) and usually there's a sale on paints every day. The paint quality goes all the way up to ridiculously pricey, hand-mixed tubes. Pretty good stretcher bar and canvas selection. Small but interesting crafts and fun section, and you can really get some cute gifts while you're checking out (strategically placed for suckers like me). Like most small art supplies stores, prices are expensive so every little discount/sale counts (get the email newsletter) yet they do have professional-grade materials that you won't get at Michael's or Joann's Fabric read more

I buy almost all my art supplies at Jerry's. I teach painting classes and Zentangle. I can find new and exciting things to add to my lessons at Jerry's. I send my students there. Many of them ask me about Michael's which for the most part has terrible prices, even with their many coupons. I compare prices continuously. Jerry's is almost always the winner. Their framers are very good, helpful and knowledgable. If i had any complaint about Jerry's it is that returning things is not easy, especially pens or paper items that turn out to be defective.If possible, I check in the car now before I leave the parking lot. They also carry the most up-to-date products like my newest love for acrylic painting, airbrush medium which has really helped my beginning students to get the results they want when painting with acrylics. This IS my store. I was just turned on to yelp by my brother when I was looking for good Mexican in Middletown. Once I signed up I knew I wanted to help other people find the only art store I use anymore. Outside of going to New York, Jerry's in West Hartford has the largest amount of GOOD supplies for miles. I worked in encaustics mainly, and I have to tell you its not easy to find a full selection at prices that aren't laughable. This is a really big art supply store - if you can't find it here, you don't need it! I went to get some prints framed and although the frame selection was good, the customer service wasn't. The woman who was attending to me implied I was being cheap because I wanted semi-custom. She frowned a lot, stared at me without speaking, and was reluctant to answer my questions or work within my budget. I would probably go to a different place next time. read more
