Not sure about the previous negative reviews for this gym - I have had nothing but positive experiences since joining a few months ago. I find this gym to be generally very clean. Most of the teachers are excellent!! - I enjoy classes and do Spin, yoga, and Centergy. There's a phone app that is excellent for picking your class and reserving your spot - and every day of the week there are many different classes to choose from. I emailed customer service twice about minor issues, and received prompt and polite responses. I also go to the Manalapan location sometimes, and find it equally nice. I'm very happy and satisfied to be a member at Jersey Strong! :) read more

Really lousy crappy gym. And it's really not a gym, it's a financial services company . I made the unbelievably stupid mistake of rejoining after someone told me about a two for one deal. Within a month I had a $67 charge for their yearly fee so already the membership is $5 more a month . Same old equipment as when I left years ago. Staff is now skeleton , trainers are raw and basically salesmen . No real on site management, no way to get help. Would think a woman would be scared to be in the place at night. Same lousy sound system playing Staten Island disco crap and frat boy wrist slitting music. I could kick myself in the butt for rejoining . Charging people during covid? Are you kidding me? Are you KIDDING ME? They just went and charged myself and my wife for October gym fees. Are you serious? There's a PANDEMIC GOING ON. Ask people if they want to come back to the gym, before you try to charge them. I'm not coming back to that germ infested breeding ground for bacteria. Then they went and charged my wife $179 for personal training. No one sane is paying for personal training during a pandemic. I specifically asked if there would be a penalty to cancel membership to which the employee corey told me no as long as I can prove I am moving states. Fast forward to now, THAT WAS A LIE. And Corey is now denying that he ever said that. And good luck getting a live person to talk to about your situation... Ive already "opened a ticket" and havent heard back. I have been trying to cancel my personal training contract before it expires. I have followed the intstructions in my contract. The corporate office no longer exists so I wasted money on return receipt postage. The staff in the gym told me that I could call the 800 number which as it turns out only handles memebership, not training. They were no help. The staff in the gym gave me a QR code to file a ticket. They had 3 business days to respond. I have not received any response. They have made me very frustrated. The gym is convenient for me but don't sign up for any extra services! I have been going to this gym location since it opened. Unfortunately, this gym has not upgraded any equipment of significance since the time it opened and is severely lagging behind other facilities in the area in terms of quality and professionalism. Furthermore, the majority of the training staff has developed into a pack of Karens and exhibits a sense of entitlement as if their shit doesn't stink. The manager and the front desk staff are reasonable and I think they are the only highlights of this establishment, yet at the same time, they seem to be constrained by a corporate system that exhibits poor leadership and ownership qualities and does not allow for communication and feedback up and down the chain of command. If it was not for the convenient location (I could basically walk here), I would have left this gym many years ago. The Marlboro gym recently got rid of the boxing room which had ~10 heavy bags and was open for use at any time. Instead of replacing or renovating the room for patron use, it was decided to put the room under construction for many months only for us to find out that the bags were replaced with questionable equipment and the room would only be accessible for certain classes. The construction of the room was also 'Top Secret' for some reason, so not even the staff knew what was going on (I also asked one of the construction workers and was told he couldn't tell me) -- just so odd. So instead of finding a new location for the heavy bags, someone decided to place 1 (yes, qty. 1) heavy bag in the main weight area where you have to be careful not to accidentally hit a passerby with a left hook. Many other members have also expressed the same feeling of dissatisfaction and disappointment about the removal of the boxing room. There is currently a keypad lock on the back room door so even if you want to use the equipment when there is no class, there is no way to get in. Out of all the gyms I have been to around the world and US, this is the only time I have seen this type of practice where a gym locks certain rooms with equipment that can instead be put to use. On the odd chance that a trainer leaves the room unlocked, you better hope that they don't find you in there using that equipment or their Karen instincts will kick into full gear. This is especially exemplified if they catch you using the stereos that can be found in the studio rooms (I wouldn't have to use the stereo if they didn't play the same garbage 'Top Hits' album on repeat every 40 minutes -- it's brutal and should not be played within a 50 mile radius of any gym). Using the stereos is apparently equivalent to rocket science (very high tech systems that they have in place here), so leave it to the professionals (trainers). As I mentioned, the GM and the front desk staff are very nice and I appreciate their help over the years. On the other hand, the crew of trainers that are either currently working or have worked here in the past have been a real treat to deal with (I have no doubt they would reciprocate this sentiment). The trainers exude arrogance and often speak to patrons in condescending tones. For instance, I was using the a spin bike in the spin room (there are no spin bikes in the main gym area like every other gym I've been to) and a class was about to start. I indicated that I had a couple minutes left and would just finish my workout in the corner and not disturb the class. But oh no, no way I could do that, I don't want to disturb all the 5 people that take the class when there are 20 bikes in the room. I was told I needed to either sign up for the class or leave (cue the Karen appearance). There have been numerous times where I proposed to deaf ears to simply place one of the spin bikes in the main area so it can be accessed at any time if this is the rule we have to follow. Also, the woman's room is a rather touchy subject at this establishment. Again, this I the only gym I have ever seen with a woman's only room and it happens to have some equipment that the main area does not (i.e. the standard normal leg extension machine). I do not understand the concept of having a women's only room *with different equipment than the main area.* The occupancy rate of that room is definitely low and this space has potential to be used more effectively. To me, this is just a matter of common sense. Providing feedback to the staff on potential gym upgrades is constantly met with the response that there is no mechanism for communication with the corporate team. I have also never seen a survey or a corporate staff visit to the gym in my time here asking the (overpaying) customers for their opinion and feedback. There is an essentially useless turf area that just takes up space for people to do quasi-athletic workouts (not enough space to be considered enough for a full athletic workout but enough space to be a nuisance especially when better equipment can replace it). Horrible. Have not been to gym for minimum of 6 months and decided to terminate my account after 4 years. Had to jump through massive hoops to terminate and even then there was a fee!!! Told them they charged me for last six months so why am I paying a fee to terminate when they made this money off me for last six months with me not going. CRIMINALS!!! Always crowded, way too small, equipment is terrible and not enough of any of it, workers are rude and not helpful at all They do not put signs up when equipment is broken or being repaired. Upstairs where the equipment is located there are NO stations that dispense wipe down supplies. What a joke. The Antibacterial dispensers are non existent. You want folks to keep the gym sanitary while your employees do zero to get supplies onto the floor. It had to be like this last night because the gym just opened. Shameful. read more

The absolute worst customer service model. It is mischievously and maliciously designed so you sign up for a trial membership with no recourse to collect refund money upon cancellation. During sign-up, you are told that if you cancel within a 5 day trial period, you will receive a full refund plus you will keep $35 in amazon gift cards. Seems like a no-brainer to sign-up with zero downside - WRONG, DO NOT BUY IN TO THEIR SCHEME. I signed up for a trial membership with agent Brittany Sears. She is a perfect example of why sales people get a bad name. When I came to activate my free trial, she encouraged me to sign up for a membership to receive $35 in amazon gift cards (an extra $25 over the $10 gift card you receive just for trial activation). She said there was no downside as I could cancel within 5 days for a full refund. I agreed and signed-up for a membership instead of a just activating my free trial. On the 3rd day out of a 5 day trial period, I emailed her and asked to cancel membership for a full refund. Her response: "You don't receive any gift cards if you cancel. Have a great weekend." WHAT. So she lied to my face? Aside from blatant lies from their agent, the lack of integrity and slimy sales mentality is also prevalent in their daily emails and pestering of any references you provide. So fine. No gift cards. At this point, I just wanted to get out with a full refund. They make this extremely difficult on purpose to discourage folks from doing it. While any slimy agent can sell you a membership, cancellations ONLY happen at the corporate level. And - here's the kicker - there is no phone number for corporate so you can't speak to anyone. The only way to ask for a refund is through email and there is no feedback as to when the refund will be processed. I submitted my refund request on 11/13 and still have not been refunded as of today 12/8. I have periodically been emailing support staff asking where the refund is. Last response was on 12/6 - "We do apologize for the delay. Please allow a few more business days for the check to arrive to the address we have on file." Jersey Strong used to be called Work Out World by the way. My hunch is they rebranded in an attempt to erase the horrific experiences of past customers. Please do not sign-up for a trial membership even if it looks like a good deal on the surface. It's an unethical company with dishonest staff. read more

They took over a year to cancel my sons student membership, which half the months they charged full membership fees when it was on hold and he was away at college. Then they charged it again during COVID. After several calls and certified letters, also a visit to their wall offices they cancelled the membership. It was an absolute joke. I would never recommend this gym to anyone. Go to Plant Fitness or Retro at least their not crooks. read more

Never join Jersey Strong gym on Rt 516 in Old Bridge, NJ. Two months later and I'm still waiting for credit regarding cancellation for personal training I had signed up for. They lie and give you the run around, probably in an attempt for customers to eventually give up so they can keep your money. They constantly change their stories. One minute they said I would have to wait for a check to come in the mail for my credit back. The next time I called, they said they would credit my card on file. Two months later and still no credit. I've called them 5-6 times. Why does it take so long to credit someone's account??? Special mention about Nick (? Manager of Back Office). He ignored my 3 follow up emails regarding my credit that I'm still waiting for. After he told me I should receive a credit back to my card on file, I still see NO Credit back. This company steals customers' money. Plus, I never heard of a company that has no corporate office. When I called number they gave me, I was told that they don't handle credits for personal training and are not allowed to give out corporate office number because it is "private." I wish I had read BBB reviews first. I would never had joined this gym or signed up for their personal training. If I could give them a ZERO STAR review, I would. Beware. Aside from low monthly cost, this place is a sh** hole. Weights are scattered across gym. Never cleaned and in order even when you arrive at 5am. The bathrooms are crap. No hot water to shave at sinks. Barely soap or shampoo. Spray bottles to clean off treadmills filled with only water - hygiene issue? Not enough weights and benches for number of members. But I guess the price keeps us coming. read more

I have been working out for 35 years. To get in great shape you need desire and dedication. That being said, picking the right gym is very important. Jersey strong offers a wide variety of fitness classes,suited for all levels of fitness! They have enough free weights and machines to work every body part in many different ways. I find no matter how crowded it is there is a machine or free weight available to keep the intensity of my workout strong every time. The member are very friendly. They take their fitness seriously which inspires me to do the same. My wife was not as serious a gym rat as I am but after three months at jersey strong, she has found enough classes, personal training and independent aerobic machines to keep her happy in the gym 5 days a week :). read more

It's kinda always crowded, all the machines I want to use are taken by other people, people don't clean up after themselves. Then on top of that I tried to bring my friend and I was told I can't bring people with my membership yet I was told during the interview to join the gym membership program that I could bring one 25 times on any day before you have to pay. I'm sorry leaving this gym for retro, retro is hands down a better gym because they have more then one machine. Especially there's less people. read more

I come to Jersey a couple times a year and always buy the $25 week pass for unlimited access to the gym. The machines and free weights are great. I have never taken a class but they seem standard for chain gyms. The open space in the middle is fantastic if you want to create your own workouts/WODs. The front desk people generally seem extremely young and generally have no idea what is going on. Once in awhile there was someone at the desk who was helpful. Although one girl was actually just typing for five minutes as I stood there and waited to be let in to the gym. Besides the front desk people, I enjoy working out here! read more

I've been a member of Jersey Strong, since they opened in Marlboro and consistently go to train. 1) There a water bottles all over the floor along with paper towels that are never cleaned up. I have sent emails to corporate stating this fact and all i got was the standard answer. Nothing has improved. 2) I used to be a regular participant in the 8am spin classes on the weekends. If I got there 20 minutes before the class, all I had to do was go in and get my bike. They've since added an app that will NOT allow you to reserve a bike until 2 hours before the class, so if I want my usual 8am on saturdays and sundays, I have to get up by 6 and be on the app by 6:05 or it fills up. Worst part is that I sometimes need to fight with the app. I've since given up read more

I have used this gym (Wall branch) for almost two years. It is clean and has plenty of machines and weights. There are numerous kinds of classes. (Although I wish they would add tabata.) If something goes wrong with a machine you scan it with your phone and it is fixed within a couple of days. I haven't had any issues or seen anything described in the other reviews. read more

Jersey Strong reinstated my account without my knowledge after freezing it during the pandemic. By the time my husband realized we were being charged, 4 months had passed. Since I have no desire to return to the gym, I told them I wanted to cancel my membership. I was told I needed to send a cancellation form. I obtained one and did it on 9/30. On October 1st I was charged my annual fee...jeesh! I was also told I needed to contact the gym to get any funds reimbursed. I called 4 x's, leaving messages for Jillian, the manager to call me. She never did though I did finally catch up with her. No apology for not returning my calls, nothing (great customer service!). She then asked if I filled out a "Support Ticket". I told her I had no idea what that was, she walked me thru it. Had to go on website because refunds come from corporate. Corporate just got back to me there would be no refund since I was informed of the reinstatement and did nothing. I have requested a copy of the email they sent me since I did not see it. I also went on the BBB and they have a D- rating...shocking! Honestly, with all the gyms out there, I highly recommend going somewhere, anywhere else. Jersey Strong has no idea what Customer service is. ZERO. The only way to contact them is through email. I cancelled my membership on Dec 18. I missed the Dec 15 cutoff to cancel for Dec 31. So fine - I have to pay for the month of January as well. Not the worst thing in the world. Then on Jan 1, I got billed the yearly fee because I was still technically a member at that time. I requested a refund since they knew that I had cancelled and have been told 3 times by the same person answering my emails that "no refund is due at this time". I asked to speak to a supervisor. Nope - got an email from the manager saying Sorry - no refund is due. HORRIBLE! Do not join this gym - there are so many other options around. Learn from my mistake! read more

DO NOT JOIN!!!!! I cannot express this enough, do not join this horrible gym. They have the worst staff who know nothing about customer service and how to deal with their clients. I made the biggest mistake of signing up with one of the sales people Shannon. I went in with my mom and requested that I would be signed up for the VIP membership and my mom would be signed up for the $9.99 promotion. She signed us up, but when we got billed we got charged for 2 VIP memberships. I went to Shannon and said that there was a mistake and then she lied to our face and said we both signed up for the VIP membership. I have worked in customer service and you can't just lie to a customer and blame your own mistake on the customer. If you do decide to go to this gym despite my warning DO NOT sign up with SHANNON. She knows nothing about customer service. Then I tried to email corporate and they just said you can downgrade but you have to pay a $99 fee with another $37 fee. Then I tried to cancel my mom's membership but corporate said we have to pay for the whole year. This whole gym is a TRAP. Then I went to talk to the downgrade manager and manager. First, they make you have these private conversations at the front desk so the whole gym can hear and all the employees gather at the front of the desk to intimidate you. They try to make you feel really uncomfortable. I do not know how this manager got her job because she is the worst with dealing with customers. She refused to listen to anything I was saying, had an attitude, and refused to help in any way. She is the rudest manager that I have ever met. They all tried to gang up on you and try to make it look like a scene to embarrass you in front of the whole gym just for asking a few questions. Now we are the ones that have to pay for SHANNON'S mistake. It is ridiculous how the employee that lies and falsely signs you up for another membership does not receive any consequences. I have always hated to exercise, and I have never sustained long-term results at any gym or with any trainer I have worked with in the past. I have been a member at different gyms in 3 different states and I have never enjoyed being there. Jersey Strong Marlboro, Brian (training manager), and Chantae (personal trainer) have changed all of that. The facility is immaculate, airy, and spacious. Even on the hottest days of the summer, it is pleasant to be there. But most importantly, Brian and Chantae have changed my life and my health. With their help, I lost 25 pounds and gotten in the best shape I have been in in the last 18 years. They are encouraging and inspiring and I will never give up the gains they helped me achieve. I joined earlier this year after a long holiday season of being out of shape. The amount of classes they had available was amazing and it encouraged me to get the VIP membership. I understand some people on here have frustrations about not getting their amazon cards or that there are too many people on machines but for someone that really has never liked the gym, i enjoy it here. I take power twice a week, kickboxing, pilates, yoga, cycling, and core and aside from one substitute trainer I have LOVED all the teachers. They really encourage you and treat you like a person. I've been places where if you cannot keep up or you don't do a move properly the first time you are "talked to" about it and its demeaning. I work out on my own as well and the staff really do say 'Hi" and are kind to you whenever you enter, pass them in the gym, and when you leave. Always feel like I belong in the gym, and for the days that I am overly self conscious I have the "women's only" section I can do my routine in and still feel accomplished. I hope that everyone who has had a bad experience finds a gym that works better for them, like I did here. read more
