Time was brief though. This was my second visit to this museum. There are three different areas in this museum: The military police, chemical, and engineer museum. There are three gift stores inside, and they were full of items I could not get outside of the base in most stores except online. I got post cards of the crossing pistols, a giant hoodie jacket, and tee with the crossing pistols.

Kid and teenager me would have loved it... the sarcastic 10 year old wanted board games to improve her experience. After considering- I agreed. I would add some chess and checker boards and a few other board games. Or a few Atari games... The epitome was the McDonald's $1 double cheeseburger sign. I asked to order it: they didn't have cheeseburgers, all things are more expensive and everything is not as healthy. I am not wishing for cocaine Coca-Cola or other "medicine" in Dr Pepper. $1.50 for a can of soda is a big jump for a corn syrup from the nickel advertising of a sugar sweet memory. The epitome of the place was playing shuffleboard with the 10 year old. I was trying to play with a sense of touch. She was playing with the idea of creating a highlight reel of knocking my pieces off. I beat her because the idea of the game escaped her. To look back at Asteroids was a shock. Realized that it was just black and white, 2 dimensional game with only a few buttons to control it. Overall I walked still a fan of the glossed over experience. I remember being a broke kid wanting to play unrealistic games to escape from reality. Now I wish for the sugar rush I used to have.

I recommend going outside in the morning while it's not too hot. A lot of the outside is metal and rebar. This area was very nice because I didn't feel claustrophobic outside. I know we must have missed a lot because each nook and cranny had more to explore. I'm sure there's some places I missed because I couldn't fit and some I just didn't see. I found out after we left that one area allows you to go under the floor. This museum is not a place where you should wear shorts or a dress. I recommend long pants. I tore my jeans on a rivet, and it would have cut me up in other clothing. We had 1 adult with us who was handicapped, and she wasn't able to stick with us at all. There are elevators but it is not disability friendly. Overall 10/10 would return.

If you like bourbons or whiskey, I'd highly recommend their Cream Sherry - it won 12th best American wine at the Decanter Wold Wine Competition (The world's largest and most influential wine competition) in recent years (just enjoy slowly - it's 19%!!). Also, they make their wines very affordable! From $11-$40, everything is in reach! (They do have a $75 reserve Norton on the list as of May 2026.) You can enjoy the restaurant on site, shop alllll the wine accessories, relax on their patio above the hills of vines, play a game of corn hole, and pose for a few photos. Several other couples who arrived around the same time were welcomed immediately, but we were left standing there without any acknowledgment. It was uncomfortable and made us feel overlooked in a way no quest should experience. I can't say why we were treated differently, but the contrast was hard to ignore. Because of the lack of attention, we ended up buying only a few bottles- even though we originally planned to purchase two full cases. We also chose not to buy anything from the stores afterward, which is unusual for us, but the experience at the beginning made it difficult to fully appreciate the visit. For a winery with such a strong reputation, I expected a much more welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. This was a one- star experience for us, and we won't be returning.

Our guide was very experienced and took us back to the 1800s, showing how people lived, businesses they started, important events, and how the city became what it is today. They also sell multiple styles of Springerle Molds! I got one which had a cat on it and I love it! Definitely worth doing this tour if you're in Hermann for a few hours or a day.

Our tour guide was the same young man who served as our guide a day eariler at the Daniel Boone home and historic site. He is a recent graduate with a degree in history and again gave a wonderful, informative tour. The Deutschheim State Historic Site includes two historic homes that are part of the tour -- the Pommer-Gentner House (1840) and the Strehly House and Winery (1842). Derek started our tour in the garden behind the visitor's center and then moved into the Pommer House which served as their residence and as their workshop where they manufacturered pianos and other musical instruments. After the Pommer House, we walked down the block to the Strehly House and Winery. These were originally two separate buildings that were later connected into a single building. The residental portion of the structure was well-perserved. We had a tour of the winery section and a newpaper/printing area in the basement. Derek was quite knowledgable and very informative. He seemed to be enthused about his job and tried answering any questions we posed. The Deutschheim State Historic Site was about a 75-90 minute drive from Chesterfield, MO but it was well worth the visit.

That was not quite right, but we accepted it. But when we were ready to confirm, they advised us that they were bumping up the price by 40% (so $2,800 total), plus were adding a $500 cleaning fee, none of which was on their website or mentioned in any of their prior correspondence with us. Their excise was, "Oops, we didn't get around to updating the website?" Pathetic. Then, even though we'd already been communicating for a while, they said they wouldn't honor the $2,000 price. They said we were asking for a "discount," but what we were actually asking them to do was to simply honor their original quote. Their response was that they wouldn't budge on the preposterous $800 increase by even a dollar. A visit to the facilities is enjoyable. But avoid trying to do business with them, because they have no character or integrity.
