I found out about Jesse after one of my friends posted her engagement photos - they were breathtaking. Then I also noticed his photos were on a comedian's Instagram whom I follow - John Mulaney. I knew he was our guy before even meeting him. I reached out to him to strictly do our engagement shoot first, and it was perfect. We wanted a winter, snowy shoot and he worked us on the timing and location. He made it so easy! Jesse's style is effortless and he makes you feel extremely comfortable in front of the camera. We had an amazing session and after getting our photos back (he doesn't hold any photo back, FYI - they are all yours) we told him we wanted to book him for our wedding and as soon as we had the date, we secured him. For nearly a year and a half, we had him booked because we didn't want to lose him! Over that time, we communicated on timelines of the day, recommendations on various things, and technical details. He didn't leave any thought unsaid and it made for a day that flowed and provided us everything we would ever want! On our wedding day, Jesse was as professional as they come. You barely knew he was there when we were getting ready, and worked well with all the different personality types in our bridal party. We adventured through town and found some incredible places to shoot! And through our ceremony and reception, he was there for all the right moments, showed discretion where necessary, and blended right in to the fold. I thought they were absolutely stunning and that his work managed to capture the tender moments of such a special day so effortlessly and beautifully. We didn't end up booking Onteora, but I knew we had to book Jesse! When I showed my now-husband Jesse's work, we felt like we were there with the couples and the families - we could feel the magic of the beautiful occasion in a way we just could not with a lot of other wedding photographers. We also loved the way that he paired these couples with the gorgeous landscapes of the natural elements around them. From reading other online reviews about him, we really liked that many people said they felt that they almost didn't know he was there, but that they were left with photographs that perfectly captured their love. We were pretty much sold on Jesse before we even got on the phone with him -- yet, somehow things got better and better from there! Jesse's a breath of fresh air; just a really, really great guy. He managed to take two people who aren't too great at being the center of attention, and somehow make them feel relaxed and comfortable about being in front of the camera for an entire day. After we got off the phone with Jesse, my now-husband and I looked at each other and just knew he was the guy. Our engagement session was amazing -- just my then-fiancé, me and Jesse out in the middle of the Pine Barrens. I left the session feeling so excited about our choice in photographer. And when the photos came?! INCREDIBLE. Jesse made the wedding planning process a breeze. We booked him well in advance (about a year and a half before our wedding date), but Jesse maintained the conversation with us by email and on social media the entire time. He is professional, punctual and organized, and had us feeling well-prepared the few days before our wedding (which is hard to do during such a stressful time!). We trusted him to make it great! The big day was absolutely magical. Jesse shot our wedding solo, and somehow managed to be everywhere at once the entire day! He was warm and friendly to all of our family and friends; his great personality and sense of humor had everyone at ease from getting ready, to the first look, to family photos, to the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception, all night long. Our family couldn't stop telling us throughout the day what a great guy Jesse is, and how comfortable he made them feel. It rained the morning of our wedding day, and I'll be forever thankful to Jesse for convincing us to take the tent down when the sun started peeking out right before our ceremony. (Aside from my own husband, I've never trusted a guy more!) Jesse got the photos to us amazingly fast, and we decided to have a little "viewing party" with our immediate family. Even though we knew he'd be fantastic, his work just BLEW US AWAY. The photos took us on an emotional journey, telling the story of our wedding in the most beautiful way. As we were going through the photos, there was laughter, there were tears, there were exclamations of "how did he get that shot?" and "wow, I didn't even know he was there!" -- and there were sequences where we just sat there in complete silence, in utter awe at what we were viewing on the screen. We got to NY about a week before the wedding, and Kirk wanted to meet us in person. At the time we didn't think that was necessary, and seemed low on our list of priorities for that week. How hard can it be to play songs that we've requested, right?? Well, Kirk is extremely professional and insisted on meeting us in person before the wedding, even offering to drive 2 hours to my parent's house in NY. So my mom and I met up with him and I am so glad I did. He is so organized and thorough. He got to know my mom and I and got a feel for our families and style. He had also done work at The Fox Hill Inn before so he was extremely helpful in just giving me a rundown on what to expect with the layout and how the night would flow. He was also available by cell phone the remainder of the week when i had last minute requests. And then of course....the wedding. He did a superior job!! Everyone danced the entire night and repeatedly people told me it was the most fun they have ever had at a wedding. The music flowed so smoothly, and Kirk not only listened to the requests of myself, my mother, my mother-in-law, etc....but even through in a few surprises based on what he learned of me and my fiance through our quick meeting. I couldn't have been happier. I wouldn't change a thing about my wedding day, but if I were to do it again, the first thing I would do (besides pick my groom) would be to hire Kirk Michaels as my DJ and set up a face to face interview!! Cate was great for our wedding! She understood what my spouse and I were talking about when we told…read moreher about being a queer and polyamorous couple, and that our wedding wasn't going to have a lot of the traditional elements (like a ceremony, first look, first dance, wedding attendants, cake-cutting, etc.) - it was a relief to get to describe what we wanted to a vendor who was part of the community and familiar with different kinds of queerness and relationships. She made sure to ask about who in our party was out, and to what degree, just in case a sticky situation arose. Cate managed to capture both formal portraits and nice-looking outtakes from in-between formal portraits; got photos of all our guests, and took a lot of candid photos from the dance floor without us even realizing she was there until we saw the album afterwards. She captured all of the detail shots that we had asked for, and innovated a couple of her own that were much appreciated. Both of us have terrible memories, and rely heavily on photographs to remember even really important events. Cate understood this and did a great job photographing things so that we would be able to remember them without worrying. We paid for six hours of just Cate working, which included time spent on the formal photographs, and resulted in just over 700 photos processed and sent to us far faster than we had expected! I think it took her a month or two less than her estimated timeline. Her rate isn't cheap, but she was absolutely worth it, and we were happy to have her working for us for the day! She's been enthusiastic the whole way through, great at adjusting on the fly, and stellar about following up with us. (This review is for our wedding a year and a half ago - I just found the draft I'd written in 2023 and realized I never posted it anywhere!)

From the moment we reached out to inquire about her availability, Cate has been super responsive and we could tell she was genuinely interested in our story as well as how we wanted to tell that story through photos. The session went as well as I could have imagined - Cate made us feel so comfortable to be ourselves in front of the camera by connecting with us, listening to our wishes and offering so many ways for us to relax, focus on each other and feel pretty. And the final photos! are! gorgeous! The intimate vibe we loved and wanted to capture is there in our photos, but it also feels unique to us and isn't just a replica of Cate's previous work. There isn't a photo in which we faked our smiles - they're all eye-squinting nose-wrinkling happy laughs and giggles and tender moments because we had that much fun during our session. Her edits were beautiful and when I had an additional request, she was very accommodating as well. Now my only regret is that our wedding isn't remotely close to Connecticut so that we could have Cate as our photographer. She's amazing at what she does and if you have a chance to work with her, I'd 100% go for it.

The quality of their photo strips is excellent, and they were able to customize our photo strips to match our wedding invitations exactly! We decided to have a photo booth sort of last minute (2 weeks before our wedding), and we had a specific budget in mind for this. Denise was completely willing to work with us on this so we were able to get what we wanted at a price that worked for us, I really appreciated that! I also love the backdrop options they have, and the one we chose perfectly complimented our photo strips. They refuse to give our money back, and cannot come to the moved date. We would even be willing to accept half the money, but they said no. I just feel that with the devastation of having to move our wedding and not have it as we always dreamed due to Covid, a wedding business should understand and be empathetic. It is sad that during this difficult time, this company refuses to refund any of the money during these unprecedented times. All I asked was for half the money back, how unethical during a pandemic.
