I haven't been keeping up on my reviews lately. But this place just took the cake. They ruined a pair of pants in a simple alteration, could not get a basic stain out of my jacket, and even botched a shirt sent in for simple cleaning and pressing. I used Jet once in a while in the past with just ok results, but now it is atrocious. Not to mention nary an apology or explanation, and a lot of grumbling about a refund. I took 5 jackets here to be cleaned. I got them back and they looked and smelled exactly the same as when I took them in. They weren't even pressed. The wrinkles were still in the sleeves. Pathetic. What a waste of money. This was the worst dry cleaners I have ever been to. Don't even bother with this place. It looks like a pit too. read more

The owners of Jet Cleaners are super nice people. When I went to pick it up, the husband helped me out once by sewing a button on to the sleeve of a dress I had dryed cleaned which was missing the button before I dropped it off, and he didn't even charge me for it! The wife was honest with me about the suede jacket I wanted to have cleaned, saying it wasn't worth the price to have it sent out to New York to have it cleaned (apparently local cleaners don't do suede.) When Katrina happened, they had a clothing drive for the victims. Very nice local business all around! The only thing I wasn't thrilled about was that they charge a few dollars more for "plus size" clothing. Does a size 16 dress really require than much more detergent than a size 6 dress? I think not. Is that a standard practice in the dry cleaning business? Otherwise, I highly recommend them. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! If only I could give them zero stars! My one experience with them will be my last. I've been on the road and leave town tomorrow. I dropped my clothes off with them on Wednesday and the woman at the counter, Tori, assured me that I'd be able to pick them up today. Today, she said that she couldn't find my clothes and there was nothing she could do about it until Monday morning! I'm on the road for job interviews and this woman lost my suit pants! I need to be wearing those pants Monday morning. She was nasty when asked to look for them. After a half hearted search she just repeated "there's nothing I can do until Monday." Finally, I called again and she had found my clothes in a "pre spot bucket" and I can pick them up tomorrow morning. Great! I get to pick up my clothes on my way out of town straight from a bucket they've been sitting in for three days! I'm sure they'll look great when I can't find a place to clean them over the weekend. Thanks Jet Cleaners, for totally screwing me over. You can't make this right. I'm leaving town tomorrow (after I pick my wrinkled and uncleaned clothes out of that bucket) and have no intention of having you do anything for me ever again. Moral of the story: Jet cleaners are terrible and you'd be well advised to stay away from them, especially if you need to have any time sensitive jobs done. read more

I have had all kinds of crazy clothing cleaned here, including a Renaissance Faire gown, evening gowns, and normal basics, and Jet Cleaners has always done an exceptional job. They did a lovely job on a major repair on a favorite blazer, and lots of other small fixes - buttons, fraying seams, loose hems, etc. I've never had a bad experience here, and I like the people a lot! read more

My husband and I go to Jet all the time. I'm a little surprised by these 1 and 2 reviews, but I think there are a lot of them probably because people are most inspired to write when they are angry about something. Anyway, I thought I'd offer a more balanced view. First off, we live in East Rock a block away from JJ Cleaners, which I went to a couple times. The lady there is really, really rude and it tended to ruin my day. That's why I started going to Jet, which is a few blocks away. At Jet they are pretty friendly, and everything seems efficient. Our stuff has always been ready when promised. A couple times my husband's shirts have come back with rings around the collar or slight salt stains remaining on pant legs, but stuff is usually pretty clean. I appreciate that they seem to always remember to remove the collar stays--we've had collars burned by metal stays other cleaners have left in. Jet was recommended by a vintage place where I bought a wonderful dress from the fifties, which I discovered had a big stain. The store gave me a discount and sent me to Jet. When I showed them the stain they called the owner up to the counter and he looked at it really closely and explained his elaborate plan for getting it out--he took on the job himself. When I picked it up the dress was as good as new! So, I think for everyday items they could have a bit more attention to detail, but if you have something special that needs cleaning, this is your place. And if you live in the neighborhood they are your best bet. read more

Tried this place for the first time since moving to town, and had a mostly pleasant experience. My drycleaning all turned out beautifully, and they even got it done the next day for me as requested, for no additional charge. The only mishap was an ivory turtleneck sweater which ended up being tinted with some unsightly shade of gray. I haven't spoke with them about this giving them a chance to make amends, but was definitely disappointed at the outcome. Nonetheless, I'd still recommend it! read more

I've patronized Jet Cleaners 3 times. The 2nd and 3rd times were out of convenience (I work 2 within walking distance). Yeah, the clothes get clean but that's not note-worthy. The service is horrible. You don't get the "fresh from the cleaners" feeling from your garments and they lose things. Don't even go. My one star is given for the parking. Awful customer service. We've been there three times. Call us crazy. We've had awful service every time. The first time they wouldn't honor a coupon on a rug because they send those out. The coupon said it was good for anything, but OK, I get it, they're outsourcing the service and can't mark it down. The person, however, was just very rude about it. The second time, my wife bought a groupon. They marked up the normal prices so high the price with the groupon was nearly the same as it would have been without it. Again, I thought, OK, so they just don't do well with coupons. The third visit I had 5 shirts with a yellowish collar and they said they thought they could get it out. Otherwise, the shirts were already clean and didn't even need laundering. Well, they didn't get it out of any of them. The person checking us out said they'd run them through and try again. But then the person in charge, who "helped" us the first two times overheard her, and shut that down. "We're not trying them again, they were already stained when you brought them in" Really? No kidding. That's why I brought them to you and you said you thought you could get the stain out. Well, We're done with Jet. I hope this saves some one else the trouble. read more

My boyfriend went back here yet again (it's just so convenient for us....) and there was a guy there this time who was horrified that they had sewn the buttons on with different colored threads, and that they had ripped them off in the first place. He offered to fix for free and was really nice, which is why I gave an extra star - but we get the suit back and the buttons on cuffs are sewn on totally crooked and they've been sewed THROUGH the inside lining and there are loose threads sticking out everywhere This was CLEARLY not done by a professional, stay away from this place if you need even the most basic alterations... read more

VERY POOR TAILORING. I brought in several items for simple tailoring; I had to bring them back a second time because of poor workmanship. The work is still poor but I am fed up with them. This is work for which I was charged $120!! I brought the items today to another tailor who thought at first I had botched the job myself. She was shocked at the shoddy workmanship. Wow, this place is horrible. I've wasted so much money here, and I'm glad I finally stopped going. I was only going before because of the convenient location and hours. My clothes often came back looking like they hadn't been cleaned. One person working there is very nice, and she had offered to reclean my things twice at no extra charge. Once my coat came back in worse condition, and I wish I had never taken it there. But the last straw was when I came to pick up my stuff that still had stains, and I pointed them out. The woman told me that they had recleaned it and couldn't do any better. I asked why I had to pay so much if the stains hadn't been removed and when I dropped them off, they said that they would definitely get them out. She was so rude and gave me attitude, telling me that I'm lucky they are not charging me double for recleaning. I paid and never returned. I took my stuff to a place a couple blocks away and it came back spotless. That woman told me that they get a lot of customers who used to go to Jet and had horrible experiences. I have been to Jet Cleaners twice now, and both times I have failed to notice any evidence that my shirts or suits have actually been cleaned. Taking them to this place has actually worsened the collars on my shirts. I had a little bit of salt on my pants from the snow and that part remained as well. Why should I pay that much money for someone to just press my clothes without any cleaning? Pitiful excuse for a cleaners. I will be taking my business elsewhere from now on. read more

Can I give 0 stars? I am a repeating customer, so i am not a one and done with a bad experience. I stuck this place out due to its convenient location, but I am done. If you get your dress shirts done here, they WILL leave your collar dirtier than when you dropped it off, how does that happen? They WILL break most of your buttons. They WILL leave random stains on your clothes. They WILL charge for same day service, eve though they advertise same day service. Isn't that part of the overhead which is rolled up into their pricing? Guess not. The staff is sloppy looking at best and they have a real bad attitude. I have had them ruin clothes, lose clothes and definitely give me attitude when I bring them back to be fixed. Honestly I stuck it out too long, and would rather do my clothes myself. This place may have been great when it opened ages ago, in a time where people took pride in their jobs and posessed great work ethic. Now it's operated by lazy hungover workers who wear filthy sweatpants and worn out tshirts because they are too lazy to wear anything professional. Enter this place at your own risk. I have had good luck with jet cleaners in the past. When I went to pick up my winter coat today (that was supposed to be back), I was told that it was not back yet. I'm leaving town for 10 weeks tomorrow. I spoke with the owner who said that there was nothing he could do, and in answer to my question, yes, I should probably go and buy a new coat if I needed it for tomorrow. They now outsource the cleaning and have no control over anything once it is offsite. read more

I've never had anything dry cleaned and didn't realize it took so long so despite its poor rating I went here because they do same day dry cleaning. I gave them a suit and a few shirts (for an interview the next day) and the suit came out fine. The shirts, which I had discussed and pointed out some stains, still had stains, and actually some were worse than they were before. The service was ok and the price didn't seem outrageous but I am hoping there is a better dry cleaner in New Haven! read more

I used to go to Jet Cleaners for my general dry cleaning needs and I thought they were pretty decent. But all it takes is one bad experience to ruin all of that and make you not want to go back again. The last and final time I used Jet Cleaners, I gave them an off-white cashmere blend sweater to dry clean. There were no stains on it and I just wanted it freshened up. When I got it back, there were black and gray stains all over the front. It was in really bad shape - considerably worse compared to when I dropped it off to be cleaned. Granted, the person at the counter did offer to fix the error, but since Jet caused the problem to begin with, I didn't feel too confident in their abilities and passed on that offer. I took the sweater to another dry cleaners nearby and paid again to have it cleaned. At the second place, they told me that they could tell my sweater had been machine washed at Jet when it never should have been anywhere near a machine. It was dry clean only and I had specifically asked the people at Jet that it be dry cleaned. At the other cleaners, they didn't know what the gray and black stains were but thought they might have come from Jet's machines or that my sweater had fallen on a dirty floor before being wrapped up. Luckily, the other cleaners were able to spot treat my sweater AND they dry cleaned it like it should have been. I'm giving Jet one star because they weren't so good at the cleaning part (which is pretty much what they're supposed to do). But I'm giving them a second star because they were nice about trying to fix the problem (even though I don't want them to touch my clothes ever again). And they do give discounts to Yale students. read more

Besides being super nice, the owner told me that the knitted blankets I brought in to be cleaned were not worth the effort because they would surely get damaged. I had some nasty gunk on a custom tailored suit, and they got it off with nary a problem and more importantly nary an idea that it had ever been there. Thanks! I have used Jet for years and never really liked them: the clothes didn't feel fresh clean and white shirts were never white in the collar zone. Sometimes, getting really annoyed I asked them to redo them and the shirts were coming better. However, last summer they ruined my very expensive dress shirt. It had spark and shine in the material and came out after dry cleaning looking like it's been through 100 washing in the heavy duty cycle. I was very upset and the lady said there's no guarantee it can't happen to any piece of clothes. I'm sure they did something wrong. And, of course, no compensation, no nothing, no even formal apology. read more

Jet Cleaners have done a great job with our clothes! My mom and I have taken our clothes here and have always had pleasant experiences! Recently, I asked Jet Cleaners for a reduced cost on ~15 gown dresses for my employer (non-profit school), the owner, Mike, agreed to do the dresses at a discount. A few weeks passed, and the dresses were ready to be picked up, I asked Mike for the total price on all the dresses, Mike emailed me and let me know that we didn't owe anything for the dresses!!! I am soo thankful and happy for, not only the excellent service, but also for the kind and generosity that Mike showed. Michael the owner was extremely knowledgeable and was able to solve the problem -- on a dress that I had just bought to wear to a wedding -- immediately. He was also straight-forward, promising over the phone to look at the situation and then refer me if he didn't think he himself could fix it. There are not many cleaners in the area, so I gave jet cleaners a try. My dry cleaning was picked up and when I got it home I realized that it was not clean at all, and almost had a mildew smell. Mike the owner is a great friendly guy; he cares about his customers, is very proud of this long-time (2 generation) family business, which lives by a commitment to give the best service possible. In my experience, he goes the extra mile repeatedly and cheerfully--once bringing cleaning to our house when I needed it to make a plane.
