Ok. So we rent a speedboat from here. Seems to be the only place in the whole Fox Lake/Chain O' Lakes area that rents boats. The guy at the hotel desk said it's because of a drunken accident and someone dying years ago. Ok. So we see the bad reviews and we're hesitant, but, the whole reason we came up this way was to rent a boat and be on some water for an afternoon. Ok. So, now, everyone is very nice here. Very friendly. I give them big props for explaining everything super clearly, showing us a map and giving us details about the entire lakes area. Well done. Oh, and cops are everywhere out there, fyi. So, ok. Why only two stars? Several reasons. First off, they had us paranoid about the propeller from the get-go for the entire excursion. Damage it in x, y, or z fashion and here's the price list. All righty, so right off the bat we can't relax. Secondly, the lakes are shallow everywhere they say. Great, now we're super extra paranoid about propeller damage. Relax? Forget it now. Third, here's a long long list of all the things we'll charge you for if the boat comes back like this, that, or the other way. So now we feel like we can't even touch the darn thing. They tell you to take a video of the entire boat as proof before leaving. What, relax, what is that? Fourth, the speedboat they have is in crummy shape. All beat up, torn upholstery, it's not very comfortable, a seat back won't go upright, it felt sluggish, the steering is messed up, the throttle difficult, it didn't feel maintained....it's just not a great boat. Fifth, and what they don't tell you until it's too late and you're already at the desk and signed away....That inexpensive-ish sounding four hour rate, yeah, you pay for gas on top of it. That surprise bummer toppled everything over into why are we even bothering terrain. Plus the gas rate is $1.25/gallon+ higher than if you stop at a lake station we discovered. We felt like we couldn't go anywhere, see anything, do anything, touch anything, nothin'. Relax isn't even remotely on the docket. We ended up circling around the Fox Lake perimeter twice which is not very large, and ventured into Grass Lake briefly, but mostly just floated with the engine off. The Jet Funn folks completely sucked all the enjoyment out of renting a boat so we ended up going back in an hour early. We were more tense coming in than when we drove up to their establishment initially. Look, I get it, they're trying to protect themselves and their property. I'm sure if I were a boat renter person I'd be totally paranoid too, renting to strangers from a strange land who may or may not have any prior boating experience, out in unpredictable waters filled with crazy people. Ok. So we get back in and it's not a surprise that they don't credit you for the time you don't use. One can hope, but one should not expect it. But you're back at the desk when the guy fills the tank, so you have to take his word for the amount of gas used. Somehow we used 10 gallons and I'm not sure how. I guess we should be thankful, considering other reviews, that we didn't get nailed for any prop damage. So. I guess, ya know, I dunno. I signed up for yelp specifically to document my experience with jet fun rentals. I am not one to complain and i try to see the positive in any situation however my experience with jet fun rentals was by far the worst service experience i ever had. For my mother in laws birthday i had called jet fun rentals at approximately 9:15am on a Sunday to rent a pontoon boat. The young lady who answered the phone advised me that they had 3 pontoons available and the half day rental rate would be $280. I provided my name and # of guests (7adults & 2 small children) and jet fun advised me to come in so they could get my family out on the water. 22miles later approximately 1hour we arrive. 1 vehicle in our party traveled approximately 48miles. Upon arrival, 11:45am, we are advised that there is no record of our reservation and that all boats have been rented. Upset with the situation, i has asked if there is any other options available to us and jet fun suggested we wait until 1:30pm for the next boat to come back in. Having already drove so far, we accepted this option and provided payment information to secure the 1:30pm boat. Problem was that the 1:30 pm never showed? At 1:45pm when i went to check on the boat, the 3 girls standing behind the counter were all joking around and paying no attention to the fact that they have customers patiently waiting. They mentioned that the 1:30pm wanted to keep the boat longer and not to worry because they told them to come right back with the boat. 2:15pm rolls around, still no signs of the boat? At this point i got a screaming child, upset mother in law on her birthday and a disappointed family who traveled from far. A day that started with laughter and joy ended in misery. The reason for my review is due to this situation being entirely avoidable should the staff had better customer management controls in place. Jet fun completely lacks structure, communication, knowledgeable staff and even compassion. Even when leaving the response we received was hopefully next time we can get you out on the water. They took no accountability for their mistake. I caution everyone that's thinking about renting with jet fun! The boat looked, sounded, and felt well used. We had to return our first boat because it just wanted to go in a circle. Expect a half hour lesson on setting the proper prop height..if you mess up, expect to pay. Of course, the boat was not equipped with a depth gauge. If you get a map of the lake, make sure it doesn't blow out of the boat, or expect to pay. Make sure you know where all the life jackets are that they load you up with, or expect to pay. The boat was definitely not worth the price. If you want to go boating, go 40 minutes north to Lake Geneva..no height issues, in fact they say don't touch the prop height, no nickel and diming to death, not even for gas, and very, very nice clean, comfortable, easy to drive boats for the same price. read more

I recently rented two pontoon boats from Fun Jett this past weekend. And i must say they were WONDERFUL! Each staff member was so helpful in answering all my questions (and i had a lot!!) and always pleasant to speak with. I had 25 girls going for a Bachelorette party, they accommodated every request i had and even blew up all of our floaties. The boats were in great condition! When i went over the contract, the girl at the counter went over the maps and everything with the propeller including costs if it was damaged (i find it so strange that some people think they shouldnt have to pay for something if they damage it....DUH!). I personally do not know how to drive a boat or navigate around a lake and they were great and set us up with local guides, "The Twins," they were awesome and took great care of us crazy girls! There were no "hidden fees" or "shady" business. We will be back for many more trips! Thanks for making my best friends bach party the success it was! read more

The females inside waste a lot of time standing around and kind of staring at nothing while you're waiting to be helped. and answering the phone and talking in the middle of helping customers. I would never hire them to work for me. And the guys outside were a little stressed but nice. And the jet ski experience was absolutely amazing. Hassle free, pleasant to work with, great time. I too was scared after reading the negative "propeller reviews" but we had nothing but flexibility and kind treatment. We reserved both a boat and wave runner, but due to weather forecasts and time constraints, changed both the day and the time (twice!) and cancelled the boat portion. The energetic young lady behind the counter/and on the phone was professional and courteous--no hassles at all with our changes. She insisted that they owed us money because my deposit was more than our charges as it turned out. The gas is included in the wave runner, which makes the whole rental thing easier. We got a good briefing from the other woman behind the desk on where to ride, what to do if it flipped, what the limits are when using their equipment--which is fair. We got a second "lesson" down by the dock when ready to start using the equipment. There is a watch attached to the dash of the wave runner. When you leave the dock, you all synchronize by that watch. They radio your time up to the office, and the time doesn't start until you hit the water. Again, no hassles with being shortchanged on time. They show you the equipment before hand and if there are any dings, they are marked with paint. Their only caveat is that you don't bring back new ones. If you are nervous, take a picture first. We had no problems with the equipment and did not flip our wave runner or run into anything. FYI they provide the life vests, and there are 2 clean bathrooms in their lobby you can use. You also can park right in front of their store while you're out and they will hold your keys if you prefer (instead of risking them falling to the bottom of the lake!) We will definitely rent again this summer. I thought their equipment was in good shape, their boats looked nice, and we were treated they way we would hope to be treated. My only wish is that they would allow us to go farther on the wave runners--we wanted to tour around and see the lakes for the first time. They let the boats out of the immediate lake they are on, but not the wave runners. Perhaps they have had problems with riders' behavior in the past. Maybe they would let a repeat renter out of the lake if you've proven yourself to be trustworthy on a prior rental--just a suggestion. We rode and did not abuse their equipment, as did a father/son pair renting at the same time. We all enjoyed ourselves and had no problems. If we rent the boat in the future, we will have a propeller discussion beforehand. I know we would be responsible if we ruin it. It is a shallow area in the Chain o Lakes and you can't let your attention drift off. If I dent a rental car, I expect I have to pay up. Same with a rental boat. I did not get the sense they were trying to rip anyone off as others have charged. Just inspect it together and take lots of pictures with them before you set out. Great folks at Jet Funn and good value for the money on their boat rentals. Staff is courteous and sharp, they brief you well on the operation of the boat and on the lakes. Sure there are those that complain about being charged for prop damage, but those lakes are very shallow so prop damage is a real possibility. Your best bet to avoid damage is to listen to what they tell you and don't take their boat places that they tell you not to go. All in all, good value and great folks. I've rented plenty of boats before on other lakes and have never had any issues. This was my first time on chain o lakes and renting with JetFunn. They're expensive, but the only ones who had a boat available. Read the reviews about "prop damage" fines but went with them anyway. Sure enough, we returned the boat after normal use and got hit with $85 extra for prop damage. They may as well charge it standard with the already high price of rental and if you still decide to rent here, then definitely expect to pay it. For me, I will NEVER again come back OR recommend them to any one I like! read more

I used Jet Funn to rent a pontoon boat for 4 hours with my family. Everything was great! I myself am in a wheelchair. They had plenty of people and offered any help they could to get me on the boat. More on this later. 1.) Customer care: Everyone there was polite, nice and helpful. Especially Kelly. She was great. They took their time to explain the boat, the waters and yes the propeller thing everyone seems to be complaining about. Any questions we had were answered and they took their time to make sure we understood everything. As far as the wheelchair they were extremely helpful and kind. They went out of their way to help with loading and unloading. something they did not have to do. 2.) The propeller issue: There are a lot of reviews complaining about the propeller thing. First of all people should realize if you rent something you are responsible for it. Next, they explained everything to us clearly. They gave us a detailed map of the lake and places to avoid. We understood the fees related to messing it up in advance. We were careful, followed the rules of the water and had absolutely no issues at all. They even tell you to take photos of it before you leave their dock for before and after photos to prove if you didn't mess something up. Sounds pretty legitimate to me and NOT shady as others have said. 3.) The total price for us for 4 hours was something around $330 and we ran that boat all the way to the southern most lake to channel lake up north. You do have to pay for the gas you use (we used about 10 gallons) so I think it was very reasonable. Overall our experience was great with Jet Funn. We were all pleased with the employees and customer service. The boat was in great shape and not "jinky". It was clean and ran great. I will definitely be using them again. Then when you return it they try (don't let them - like me) to charge you $80 for missing paint. We showed up 30 mins early for a 10 AM rental and didn't get our boat until 10:30. What a SCAM. We rented a pantoon boat for 4 hours. Before we even got on the boat, we got this huge lesson about the propeller on how it can get damaged. Sure enough they charged us for a damaged Propeller. We rent boats all the time and never had an issue with other places. I read the reviews after we already put a deposit down. We will never rent from this place again. All they do is paint the damaged propeller and wait for the next person to fall for their damaged propeller trick. We rented a deck boat for our anniversary. When we got there we were worried about the comments about scamming damages. The girl at the desk was very friendly, went over the prop damage on a demo prop they had, she even said that the paint comes off in the water and she was the one that even recommended we take pictures. She carefully and in detail went over the costs of the different damages that can occur. When we went to the dock, even the young man there said to take pictures or video or whatever made us feel at ease. They sure didn't hide anything or try to be sneaky. Everything was great, the boat was clean, and guess what...no mysterious charges. The model of the boat was a bit old but they chose a solid manufacturer and it ran pretty good. We went through 4 of the lakes and swam at the sand bar. It was a great day and fun in the sun! We will definitely come back to Jet Funn!! To the negative "scam and prop charged" comments: I have boated my whole life and I know how to properly use the prop trim/tilt for shallow waters. I think most people that say they were charged for damage more than likely are at fault and they should be charged. New boaters or lack of experience, or not paying attention is what leads to people not adjusting properly and then grinding the prop into the lake floor. As long as you do what you are instructed to or what common sense tells you to do, you won't damage a prop. Stay out of the marked shallow areas and don't go in places that have obvious signs of low water or heavy downed tree branches and you will be fine. read more

We rented a deck boat with a tube. The check in went smoothly, the deck guys were great. Everything was explained to us in great detail. After reading all the reviews I was very concerned about the prop. One of the guys on the dock asked us if we wanted to take a picture of the prop (which already had some paint missing) so we did. The dock guy emphasized how low the water was on the lake. We raised the prop as needed. Tube worked out great. No problems upon return of the deck boat. We rented on a Thurs. so the lake was quiet. This is a review about a situation at Jet Funn which happened in September 2015. Now that all efforts to settle an agreement with the ignorant owner and manager of Jet Funn went nowhere, I'd like to WARN ALL CUSTOMERS of the potential outcome and money loss you could encounter while renting at this disgusting and reckless business. A friend and I rented a motorboat at Jet Funn, and were (as many other writers here state) given an instruction about the fees being due if we'd damage the prop (and yes, it was at the front desk at that very same three blade propeller demo piece all others wrote about). We boated the whole day, and despite being a professional motor boat instructor and driving with utmost caution, we struck a stone in the middle of a charted and signed channel connecting Fox Lake and Petite Lake. We passed the southernmost buoy marking the center of the ship channel about 10 feet to the right, perfectly well inside the safe channel (according the navigation chart provided by Jet Funn), and nevertheless struck a submerged object/stone at idle power. The slightly damaged prop was declared a total loss (despite my objections, as the prop could have been easily bent back and being brought back into service), and the full loss fee charged. Noone ever cared about the dangerous object lying in the ship channel and us having observed all regulations and driving cautiously. When we reported the obstacle to Jet Funn with GPS coordinates asking them to forward the report to the responsible Lake administration, the owner just shrugged his shoulders and said "this is not my responsibility - you pay my prop, that's all I want". A second rental opportunity were two jet skis. When we did the pre-rental walkaround, we observed a lot of scratches on the bow/nose area on both vessels as well as a very temporary and cheap repair on the left side of one jet ski, probably from an earlier impact, covered with something like high speed tape and painted over in a different blue. We asked the owner to take pictures of the damage with his camera to prove the damage before leaving the dock. Later on during jet skiing, when we tried to get alongside each other at slow pace to discuss further plans, a wave tossed the two jet skis against each other, reopening the patched area. Upon arrival at the dock, the owner was angry and forced us to pay 2000 USD as a deposit for the upcoming repair. I again told him that this is a minor hull repair easily done within a few hundred USD maximum, but to no success. I had to agree, but had three conditions: 1) we wanted all the pictures from the owner's digicam showing the patchwork before and the damage after the rental, 2) we wanted a copy of the small print of the rental agreement, and 3) we wanted a copy of the bill from the professional repair shop to whom the repair would be delegated by the owner, in order to have him pay back the unused part of our 2000 USD deposit to us. As we had to leave the USA the day after (it was the last day of our trip), we trusted him to provide all of these documents for our insurance company and for the deposit reimbursement. I received none of the above, two years later, dozens of telephone calls leading nowhere, and emails not replied, a legal case and hours and days spend trying to get to the promised documents and getting a payback. Not even my insurance company was able to process my case, as there was no proof of evidence with all the pictures and the rental agreement missing. I still have no clue how much the repair really costed - a friend of mine estimated the damage to be "repaired with less than 500 USD worth of work and material". I am a very cooperative kind of human being, and tried alI I could. But I gave up. There is no way to settle such a situation with ruthless people like the owner of Jet Funn from abroad, knowing exactly that showing up at the front desk again to settle this situation straight away would be impossible for foreign customers. This business is totally contemptible, and its owner absolutely ignorant, money-grubbing and reckless. STAY AWAY from this business, if you don't want to get into serious trouble and lose a lot of money. read more

The 250.00 deposit you will not get back guaranteed they will say you damaged the propeller. so real price is $650.00 for 4 hours. They paint it black so any little scratch is considered damage. I rented a couple of wave-runners from Jett Funn, and had the best of times with my sons. The front desk folks explained to us how the wave runners work and we were a little worried for the liability if the wave runner would sink ($500 cost). But, another lady explained to us that this is just a precaution and have to let us know but it has never happened before. After our 1 hour of fun, Kevin, the owner was very appreciative of our business and explained to us how our teenage son could also ride the wave runner on his own by taking an online safety course. My sons had a great time here and we expect to be coming back few times this year!! read more

If I could give this place no stars I would, although my family and I had a great time I was very disappointed with this company. My brothers paid for a boat for 8 hours from 11-7 we only stayed until 5 because it started to rain. They gave us a "discount" but we had to pay for the motor because it was "damaged". After finishing up the workers at the front desk told us we had to pay for the DAMAGE DONE TO THE PROPELLERS. THIS WAS SUCH A SCAM PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. The lake was only 4 feet deep in some areas even 2 feet. They spray paint the motor so it looks clean. When you go to rent a boat they make you take a picture of the motor knowing that it's going to get damaged. By far one of the worst places to ever rent a boat. SCAMMERS! BEWARE!!! If I could give this place no stars, I would! This place is extremely SHADY!!!! We took our boat our for 4 hours and travelled maybe 1 MILE all day (we were anchored at a sand bar the whole day), and they tried to charge us for 13 gallons of gas! Seriously ridiculous. We asked them for a receipt of the gas usage and they couldn't/wouldn't provide us with one. After we disputed the $70 GAS CHARGE (in addition to all the rental fees), they almost immediately decided they would "split the difference". They know they are criminals and they have no defense. From what we were explained, they fill up the tanks (there are 2, 5 gallon tanks) at the beginning of the rental and whatever you use, they charge you for. Fine. But please explain to me how we used 13 gallons when the 2 full tanks only equal 10 gallons?! Jet Funn counts on the fact that people come back from drinking on the boat, and hope that they are too intoxicated to comprehend what they are telling you. Well, we weren't. I don't get that. We didn't yell at the employees, by the way. We know when listening has stopped, and yelling won't make a difference. By the way, the great thing about the internet is that negative reviews can be offset by positive reviews. There are five reviews here other than your own. All are negative, and several include the words "crooked," "shady," and the like. I defy you to find another successful business on Yelp with those kind of reviews. Want better reviews? Run a better business. And your phraseology, while perhaps incidental, seems to indicate that you are not a customer, you are an employee. Please stay far away from this place. Last year, my friends and i rented a jet ski and a pontoon boat. Being inexperienced on the water, i drove too close to the boat and decelerated only to coast into the side of the boat as i helplessly watched on. Needless to say, i felt horrible and brought it right back. the man was very nice, and informed me that the (small) gash would cost around $800 to fix and said i should leave at least that large of a deposit. Having no experience in marine repair i left him with all i had in by bank account, $600. He said that was fine, but continued to assure me that it would cost more to repair and said he would call me in a few days with the grand total. I called them after two weeks and he informed me that he had not gotten it repaired and he would call me as soon as he did to let me know how much more i owed. Ive been waiting for a year now. I feel he should have called me, and find it suspicious that he hasn't. after reading some other negative reviews i feel the most likely scenario is he tried to get as large of a deposit for "repairs" as possible, then slapped a bit of bondo on it in their little garage area. Now i could be wrong about all of this, but the lack of communication and other negative reviews lead me to believe otherwise. This place is a scam. I rented out a boat for my friend and I for one hour. About twenty minutes into our ride, the motor stopped. We were stranded out in the middle of the lake for another thirty minutes before help finally arrived. After returning to the dock from this awful experience, we were shocked to discover that we would be charged the full $90 for not even 30 minutes of "boating". Rented a jet ski for my 8 year old and I to cruise the lake a bit on 8-11-17 and let me tell you - this place is the real deal! The owner and girl at the front desk were extremely friendly and took care of us quickly. The guy at the dock went over all safety requirements and got us going for an hour of fun and upon return they made check out very easy and quick. Am I going to head back here and rent again? YES! I've gotta give this place a big thumbs up. I read the reviews and the stories about the prop mishaps before going here... and I was skeptical. But from start to finish, Jet Funn left a very positive impression. We were thoroughly warned beforehand about what kind of damages could happen and how much they would cost to repair. Also, we were encouraged to inspect the boat before taking it out. Luckily, our pontoon came back clean and there were no additional charges. Maybe they saw some of the older reviews and decided to improve, I don't know. I think those that damage their boats are less likely to give a positive review - go figure. Jet Funn rents very nice, expensive boats to people with little to no experience... both parties are taking a big risk. We went to only rent a fishing boat but rented the pontoon boat for an hour. The staff was very nice and accommodated us that allowed an older family member go along on our family deed. SCAM!!!!!! Same scam happened to us ... Charged us for the boat propeller (as well as the other three families checking back in) also charged us for being late because we were disputing the charged or 10 minutes before they checked us back in. Charged us $10 for using map they gave us and we returned without disclosing this charge. Charged us $70 for gas when we returned a 3/4 full tank. First, we had boat reservation at 10am was told to be at 945, which we did, we got to the boat at 10 they were fixing a radio and we haven't left till 1030 and they tell us to be back at 2pm which is only 3.5hours not 4 that I reserved and we left late not of our fault. Boat was not working properly you couldnt accelerate properly. Also we rented water rubbing and nobody bothered to mention that you have to purchase the rope. And at the end they tried to charge us more for gasoline. People at the desk could care less about customer service. Would not rent a boat from them again next time I will look for another company. Staff was very friendly! They made the process of renting very quick and easy. We (14 people) rented a pontoon for 4 hours and we all agreed it was the best day of the summer by far! Definitely recommended and we will be coming back before the summer ends! read more

Worst place ever to launch your boat or get it fixed the guy named "KEVIN" is greedy as hell he wont leave you alone until your pockets are empty he'll charge you for even the things you didnt wanted to get fixed just now yesterday my brother was out on the water in fox lake and his mooring rope got stuck in the jet prop right under the hull he took it out to get it fixed and he told him "oh its gonna take a while its badly stuck in there its gonna about an hour or so he went to get a hammer mean while my bro went under the boat took it out him self IT WAS'NT EVEN STUCK!!!! and he still charged him $100 for towing it out from the water...this business sucks charges you for GAS i dont think anybody does charges you for damaged propellers doesnt matter if they're bad or not...please dont give this guy any business he's not worth it!!!! read more

I promised Kevin I would rip him and his business practices as much as possible after my latest experience. He had my boat in his shop for exactly 13 weeks, that was basically the entire boating season and he never completed the work. I had to bully my way into and out of his shop just to get the boat away from him. I never knew a simple repair could be so difficult for him to figure out but I guess I should have read all the reviews before I ever stepped foot onto his so called business. His fake smile and the BS that comes out of his mouth is about as creepy as it gets. I could explain the entire situation but trust me,YOU DON'T WANT TO USE THIS BUSINESS FOR "ANY REPAIR" , the entire chain would be much better off with him out of business. I think most people have covered the bad side of his rental practices; why would the repair side be any different, its not, its horrible.
