As a child some of my earliest memories in church was sitting between my grandparents and holding my grandmother's hand. She had a beautiful ring that I would look at while holding her hand. Papa had given it to her and if you knew my grandmother you might remember her ring. I called it a snowball dinner ring. When my mom passed away I inherited it. I wanted to wear it but already had another ring created with some of her jewelry. I had taken it to JBD to see what could be done with it. Immediately Tammy said make it into hoop earrings and match the center stone for studs. Mark did his magic and yesterday we picked them up. I'm so proud of his creation because now I can wear them. I paid a significant amount of money to have a magnetic clasp added to my mother's sterling and turquoise bracelet, but it fell off every time I wore it. When I took it back, they said they would charge me more to do something else but wouldn't tell me what. I declined. read more

Make sure you ask for your total for ALL work being done. I was being told prices for one, not the total for both. And have them circle and clearly state the quoted price before signing! It felt extremely sketchy and you're stuck when they surprise you with the true cost at pickup! I will never come here again. Poor communication and subpar customer service. read more

Took engagement rings here to get sized as other jewelers were out of town. Will NEVER go to this store again. After a WEEK (longer than I was even told did the rings to be finished) I get a call from them saying they weren't able to size the rings. Good thing I'm not on a deadline huh?!? I purchased charms to ad to my charm bracelet, and was told there wasn't any charge to have them put on. When I was notified the bracelet was ready I was told there was a $36.00 charge. When I asked the owner about the charge, he became rude, condescending, and frankly he embarrassed his self in front of my family and his own staff. I bought a knife for my best friends birthday, and took it to Jewelry By Design to be engraved. Engraving was extremely shallow and barely noticeable. Also the engraver misaligned the lettering so some of the letters were cut off at the top of the knife. Have never had this problem with an engraver before. read more

I am not a person that typically writes negative reviews but this was an experience that had to be shared. I walked into Jewelry by Design with my custom made, one of a kind engagement ring. It has 4 bands that meet in the back. My engagement ring had cracked where the bands meet and one of the bands had broken off. I still don't know how it happened but I was devastated so I took it in to get it repaired. I took it to Jewelry by Design because of all the great reviews and because the original jeweler was now retired. When I took it in, the service was great and I also asked to resize down 1/4 size because it had been fitting loosely. My first indication that something wasn't right should have been when they didn't check to see if they agreed that I needed it resized. When I came back for my ring, I could no longer put it on my finger after only going down a 1/4 size and they had bent the bands causing the halo for the diamond to be out of place. It no longer looked like the same ring and the setting for the diamond was crooked. I went back to them the next day and explained that I believed somewhere in the resizing process/repair that some of the bands looked a little out of place and asked if they would be able to fix it. I also brought a picture of the ring to show how it looked originally. The jeweler at this point was incredibly rude and even asked if the picture was of the same ring. I then explained to him that it was and stated again that this was a one of a kind ring and that it did not look like the picture and also didn't fit. He then proceeded to tell me that I had not needed to get it resized in the first place and didn't understand why I had gotten it resized. He also said that he had only done work in the back so anything that was messed up in the front was not his doing. He walked away at this point and his sales rep picked up the conversation asking if we wanted it resized. I said yes and that I would like it fixed to look like the picture. She relunctantly asked me to send the picture to the store email. I was charged more for the resizing than I had been originally and they told me it would take a week to resize it. I should have at this point taken it elsewhere but I wanted to give them a chance to fix their mistake. A week later I got a call in which the jeweler said that he had gotten it "as close as humanly possible to the picture." He also said that the ring was unstable and that it needed additional structural support insinuating that it was poorly designed. My fiancé picked up the ring and much to our disappointment and frustration it looked nothing like the picture. The 4 bands had originally been crossing and now they were parallel to each other. On top of that they removed the 14k gold stamp from the inside of the band. I hope that doesn't mean that they used some other metal when they resized it. I don't know how he thought that it looked like the picture. I have shown several friends and family members the before pictures and what it looks like now and they all agree that it's not even close. To make matters worse he added tacks to the ring saughtering the bands together. This was not part of the original design nor had we asked for it and he never called to ask before he modified the ring. The jeweler was again very rude to my fiancé when he picked up the ring making comments about how the design was unstable and insinuated the damage to the ring had been some how done by my fiancé between leaving the store and giving it back to me 10 minutes later. We believe that our poor treatment was due to our college age and that the piece was from another jeweler. The jeweler who had created our ring had designed most of my family's engagement rings, had been in business as a family for over 80 years, and was highly respected as a master jeweler for his unique design and pieces. So to anyone who has jewelry designed by another jewler or who is young do not go to this establishment because they are extremely arrogant and have no respect for you or your jewelry. read more

I went there to get my engagement ring resized and they provided exceptional service and did exceptional work. I am a bit particular and tried to determine the best fit for my finger for a while and the lady helping me was very patient. I was particularly attracted to them because the work was done in-house and they looked at my stone with me in the dissecting microscope pointing out key identifiers, and then did the same when I picked up my ring. This was important to me beause I have heard that it is not an uncommon practice for diamonds to be removed and replaced with an imitator when diamond jewelry is left somewhere or sent off for repair. read more

Emailed owners and no response regarding appraisal that was undervalued by thousands of dollars. Appraisal by another jeweler confirmed that the Jewelry by Design appraisal was worthless. I had a ring sizing it was $145.00 so I asked the guy to put it in a gift box and he said it would be $15.00 and I told him they always put it in a box and I told him if I'm spending this kind of money that the least you could do and not to mention I waited 30 minutes after the time it supposed to be ready and I was going to purchase some jewelry cleaners for $10.00 and I was about to purchase a $700.00 dollar bracket after what he did I told him I'm just going to pay for my ring and then he told a lie about since it's the time of the year we have to sell them and laugh I told him it's funny because Last year around this time I had gotten some work done on a cluster diamond ring and it was in a box when I arrived to get it. I told him it's not good to lie because you are making yourself look foolish and I told him that you'll have lost a customer and be mindful how you treat your customers because if it wasn't for us this store would be close and you should always make sure your customers are happy and satisfied only thing he could do is drop his head and it's sad that you let greed take customers away from you. I have done a lot of business with this business and the staff they had before was nothing like the new ones the old staff made sure you were happy before you walked out that door. The owners are not professional and I see why they are getting a bad name. I will not be doing business with them anymore. Made me go up there FOUR times to get my bracelet, they kept breaking their words. The third time I stopped by I realized it's all BS because the bracelet broke when they handed to me but it's too late. They also scratched the back of my luxury watch really bad and then told me they couldn't open it, so they could not replace the battery, I couldn't think of any easier work for a jeweler. Wonderfully swift service! After deciding on the design and stone, they had it ready within 4 days. Very friendly.

Went in on a Saturday around 2-3 PM and looked at their selection. The ladies were very nice and accommodating. Once I didn't find anything I liked, we asked them about the design-it-yourself option. They explained that the jeweler wasn't in and that the best thing to do was make an appointment and meet with him to design my own ring. We did so for the following weekend. Meanwhile, they asked me to send an email with pictures of what I wanted. I sent him more than one with the specific details of what I liked about each one. We arrived right on time and was told to wait for Mark to come out from the back offices. We waited another 15 minutes before he appeared holding a folded up piece of paper. It was my email along with the pictures printed off and obviously looked at for the very first time. We sat down and I proceeded to explain what I wanted. He kept asking the same questions over and over and had to be told what kind of metal and cut of diamond. I could tell he wasn't listening because he kept drawing the wrong thing and asking the same questions. Once we were done, the ring was nice but definitely not exactly what I asked for. He then went to the back and returned with a random number of what it would cost with no breakdown or anything. We left with a "We'll have to think about it" and never returned. Found my perfect ring 3 days later! Beware of Mark. He's not personable and very arrogant! I might have even bought it if it weren't for him. He made the while experience unpleasant. read more
