My husband and I requested a custom ring based on an existing design for his wedding band. I confirmed with three separate people on the support team that the customizations we asked for were possible, and that they received them on their end. When we finally received the ring, NONE of the customizations were done, and they just sent us the ring as it was originally presented on the website. Then they would not offer a refund, despite the fact that it was too late to get it fixed before the wedding. Incredibly disappointing. I got a ring for my husband, a wedding band, about 2 years ago. The ring fell apart and was remade within 1 year. I thought it was a fluke, it fell apart again within 1 year of the remake. The company will not offer a refund and only a 50% discount on a future order. Some notes about the ring, it was one with wood inside as such my husband (who does not do any sort of manual labor work) took it off any time he did anything in water (kayak, swim, shower, dishes, etc) it was carefully handled and lightly worn and still the band separated into two pieces. I don't think it's unfair if a company cannot deliver on quality that a refund could be permitted but apparently the jewelry they make is essentially high priced costume jewelry. I wouldn't recommend this jewelry to anyone looking for a lasting piece. How terrible that I now have to spend money to get another ring (clearly from someplace else) because this one couldn't hold up in the slightest. Use caution If buying here. read more

I don't even know where to start with Johan. My husband searched high and low for something "different" for his wedding band and came across Jewelry By Johan. He was set on tungsten but wanted something unique with it. We already had a jeweler so we tried to see if they could do some sort of similar meteorite/tungsten ring. After our jeweler led us on, and didn't tell us until 4 weeks before our wedding that they wouldn't be able to do it, we decided to order online, which was a little scary. We ordered both the blue sizing kit, then also the custom sizers (definitely do this if you're getting tungsten bc it can't be resized & having the exact thickness is extremely helpful). It's only a few dollars and absolutely worth it to make sure your ring is exactly the size you want. The blue sizing kit shipped next day, and so did the custom sizers once we requested the sizes. Once we input his sizing we finalized our order. It's so convenient that you can text with them to ask questions! They were SOOO helpful. And best of all, they were able to get us his ring in time for our wedding! I think it was within probably 3 weeks, which is so impressive. We are forever fans, they make incredibly unique jewelry and do it well. His ring is so beautiful. Thank you Johan!!! The strip does not and has not never looked like meteriote. The gibbeon pattern is pretty distinctive. These look like they were overlain with aluminum from an old Pepsi can. ... oh but wait!they sent a certificate of authenticity! ...psych. It's just a fancy card that promises that it is what it is (meteriote). signed by the company's owner. No analytical results. No certified statements from the material dealer. No notary. Now all I want for my wedding is for someone to respond to this review to say that they won't be buying from Johan. We've never worn the rings. We wear better rings from a different vendor. These rings have been sitting in a dry area in a desert climate for four years with the little strip happily oxidizing away. The flecks of rust really bring out the fraud in them. I really wanted to get my fiance a ring here after thoroughly researching online. However, once we arrived we felt rushed and had poor customer service. If you have an appointment, you head back into a private room and look at different rings based on what you are looking for. Although I had looked online quite a bit, my fiance had not, therefore wanted to see a variety of options. The representative stated many times how she needed to get going and pick up her kid(s) from daycare very soon. Me: Not my problem! Don't you want a sale today?! (In my head, of course) After 30 min of seeing only about 20 rings that were already pre-selected and in our room waiting for us, we decided to leave. We were not getting any help. It would have been more helpful to look in the cases or see photos of what they have to offer, measure and show rings that are his size to see how they would fit/feel on his hand. Call me crazy but I didn't want a diamond marital status ring. I also generally didn't know what I wanted for a wedding ring. When I knew I'd found The One and we were headed for engagement, I started looking at rings online. I browsed the internet for a few weeks but didn't find anything that spoke to me. Then we tried some big box stores. The moment I said I didn't want a diamond, the entire store inventory narrowed to a very small selection. And still nothing struck my fancy. So I went back online and one day found a ring (on Etsy) that was set with meteorite. Yes, as in rock from outer space. Now *that* spoke to me. I looked into it a bit more and discovered that the vendor, Jewelry By Johan, was local! A sign from the universe! Jewelry By Johan has items for sale on their website and Etsy shop, but we decided to go the custom route. We made an appointment at the office/showroom after we both had a general idea of what we wanted. Most of JBJ's rings are custom made so there are not display cases of rings ready to look at or try on (most of their display items are returned pieces). Since we visited the office, we viewed some of the materials and ask lots of questions. That was a selling point and I doubt I would have chosen this vendor if we'd done it all via email. Several of the poor reviews are a result of issues caused by not seeing or trying on items in person. I believe JBJ will mail you sizers to determine your ring size if you cannot visit in person. I will note that in addition to fossils, antler, wood, and meteorite, JBJ does carry gemstone rings and other more conventional materials. Another factor in our decision to go the custom route was that we were not in a hurry. We had the rings made before we were even engaged (I did NOT want a surprise) and we got married more than a year after we got engaged. Plus, since I didn't want an engagement ring, waiting about 3 months for my ring was not an issue. Some reviews mention that they had a crunch-time situation and any delay was a big problem. If you need a ring right away, I'd buy an item they carry on the website/Etsy (website says their "Signature Styles" ship in 1 - 3 days) or buy from a different vendor. Jewelry By Johan does not advertise any sort of expedited service for custom items. My ring is a palladium band with a round meteorite in a four-prong setting. It was more "custom" than my husband's and involved approving a CAD rendering. My husband's ring is a titanium band covered with meteorite and has a dinosaur fossil inlay. Yes, as in ancient dinosaur bone. Because we had an appointment in the office, he was able to choose the piece of fossil he wanted. Both rings have a personalized engraving on the inside. Compared to almost anything you'd find at a big box store, and considering both rings are one-of-a-kind, I found them to be reasonably priced. I think it was about $3000 altogether. I did see a few reviews question the quality of the rings. We've been wearing ours for about 3.5 years and both are still in great shape. Jewelry by Johan will also do some repairs of their products. My husband and I love our rings and would definitely recommend Jewelry By Johan for a custom wedding or engagement ring. read more

The ring lasted 6month of wear before coming damaged. Didnt notice any wear or tear that needed to be fixed until a part actually broke off. If you send it in regularly to be cleaned and maintained then no damage will happen and it's free to have them clean and keep it up. But if you are like us and didn't notice and send it in until it broke the guaranteed is voided and you have to pay to repair or replace it. I get that if it was years with no upkeep. But 6 month??? I bought a white stardust ring for my husband for his wedding band. We had it for not even a year and started to be heavily discolored and turning yellow. I tried to contact customer service to at least just advice on the ring, and figure out what we can do to make it looking good again. I never heard anything back from anyone from anyone at this company. It is so ugly now and it's so disappointing because he loved its much at first. I wasn't trying to. get them to give me a refund or a replacement, I was just asking them why the ring would be discolored and what could do to fix it since it's not your typical ring material. After having my last wedding band fell to pieces on me (from a different jeweler), we chose to replace it with a beautiful custom piece from Johan. A big plus for us was the promise that the ring's protective coating would either last a lifetime or be fixed for free. It did last remarkably well for a while, but eventually it got chipped. I sent them some quick photos and they assured me that, if it was only the coating that was damaged as stated, that they'd repair it for free. Sure enough, I shipped it back to them, and just today got it back in brand-new condition, in a new box. It's a fantastic ring that means a lot to us, made exactly to fit our desires and memories, but their excellent customer support means I know they'll take care of us even if it gets damaged again some day. Just want to throw out a plug for their sizers. Yes, they charge for the sizers, and you have to wait for each one to ship out... if you get the wrong size the first time and go through multiple sizing iterations, it can take quite a while between deciding on your ring and finally placing the order to have it made. That said, I've never seen sizers this well made: they're each custom-made to match the shape, width, and size of the actual ring you're buying, so you can be totally confident that your final ring will fit like you want. They're also just really high-quality. I actually wore my sizer as a temporary wedding band while my real one was in for repair. It looks and feels good enough that, besides being translucent, you might not even notice it's not a real ring. read more

Despite being in the fine jewelry industry, none of my vendors would do my project due to those materials. I saw Jewelry by Johan on Etsy and was impressed with the reviews. I emailed them and was immediately contacted by Leanne, who provided an instant quote on a basic design on their website. I then mentioned the materials I had (a stave of bourbon barrel wood, plane brass), and she instructed me to ship my items to their workspace. After that, they could determine the usability and price. Their team was wonderful at letting me know when my items arrived with them, and they provided feedback on my design. I liked how this company provides fast feedback, sample sizers to rent (though I didn't capitalize on that), and free shipping. They are also upfront about production times and work hard to coordinate with your schedule. Should you not be as strict on your design like I was, their website features a beautiful array of sample designs with everything from bone to antler to meteorite, and all are customizeable. You feel unique and personalized in the purchase process. However, I do hope that this business tightens up on their communication and shares their design process more openly. I had a very tight deadline due to proposing on an upcoming trip, and due to my email being addressed by two representatives, I was given two different ship dates on multiple occasions. When pressed as to which timeline was correct, one rep was simply non-committal whether I'd have my item on time or not. When you're talking about an engagement ring, this is an important element! (Trust me, I eat, breathe, live engagement rings on a daily basis in my career.) When I received my item, the ring did not have an important design element on the meteorite inlay. I contacted the company, upset that my ring had been passed on without a quality control, and they provided an airbill for the return of the ring after my proposal. They also refunded the money I'd paid for expedited shipping. I wasn't jazzed about having to take the ring away from fiance right after the proposal, though I did appreciate how quickly they resolved my issue. It was just a little bumpy of a relationship with this vendor. Lastly, they didn't ship my barrel wood back on the date they first claimed, and instead shipped it back with the repaired ring. UPS lost this stave, which is disappointing as my fiance was planning on using it in a craft project to commemorate our proposal. Ill give his place credit, the jewelery they make is beautiful. Everything else is a crap shoot. To give the story some context, I was getting married at the end of August. I ordered my ring at the end of April. Plenty of time to have it made right? Wrong. Here it is the end of July and still no ring in sight. Apparently they have been having issues sourcing the black ceramic to make the ring? Which is just crazy to me because a lot of stuff on the website uses the material. So beware if your order something they might not have the material to make it. They don't give any warning or anything on the website either to let people know things may be on back order, which is absolutely ridiculous. Customer service has been decent. They did send me a loaner ring which was the same one i ordered but was the wrong size. Which was nice of them but does not change the fact that I did not have my actual ring on my wedding day. They also offered me a free remake if the ring is the wrong size but god knows how long that will take if i need that done. Overall very dissatisfied. They gave me a call a week before saying that they wouldn't be able to get the finish on it in time and gave me the option of using the unfinished ring in the ceremony and photos and using a free engraved titanium ring on my honeymoon while they finished off my real ring. The rings appear sturdy and beautiful. I think it's really cool that you can request a free set of ring sizers to make sure that the rings are made to fit. Size was one of my main concerns about buying online, but the rings fit perfectly! Price: For wedding rings, they were surprisingly affordable. I ended up paying about $380 for each ring. They have materials and styles to fit every budget. The lowest cost wedding rings are $60 and the highest cost are $14k. We chose titanium inlaid with crushed turquoise. Timeliness: Very quick response to my initial custom order inquiry and subsequent emails throughout the process. I made my initial inquiry on February 9th and received the finished rings via USPS March 9th, 28 days later. Customer Service: They were always very polite and professional. I never felt lost, and was always satisfied with the answers given when I asked questions. Site Usability: While the site is fairly easy to navigate, and there are a variety of lists of rings linked in the side bar if you already know what you want, the shear volume of options can be a bit overwhelming. Ordered a beautiful meteorite ring from Johan. They were professional and helpful through the process and I received what I ordered on time. After exactly 6 days of wear, the meteorite is already rusting and has stopped looking good. I have contacted them to try to fix this and see if it's normal. If they are helpful and it gets fixed then I will edit this review with that info, but on an expensive piece of jewelry that's less than a week old this shouldn't have happened. EDIT: They replied back quickly and said they would clean the ring and re-etch it for free. I'm so disappointed with the wedding ring I ordered for my husband through their Etsy store. It was beautiful upon arrival but now, only a year later, it is in terrible shape. The titanium is completely scratched up, they said the satin finish wouldn't scratch as bad... I'd hate to see what it would look like had I not gotten the satin finish. The wood inlay has split and a chunk of it has fallen off. This is in less than a year of wear... My husband has a desk job so it's not like it's getting abused. The rings are beautiful but are not a high quality product to withstand the test of time. I would say it is more in line with the quality of costume jewelry. What's worse is that you can't get a reliable review... It appears that their Etsy store has rave reviews but this is skewed because you can only leave a review for a certain time following your order and cannot change it later. Im sure there are tons of dissatisfied customers who simply have no way to change their review after they've discovered that the jewelry simply doesn't last. So more suckers like me read the great reviews and place an order, only to be disappointed. Do yourself a favor and go to a real jeweler, don't waist your money with this company; their product is unique which is tempting, but the quality is awful!
