I asked if she could give me a lower price, since I knew from past experience that replacing the battery for my watch should only cost $8-$15. She insisted that $25 was standard. I went with it, and came back 30 minutes later. She told me that my watch didn't need a new battery -- the movement needed to be fixed. She quoted me $75-$85. I said I'd think about it. Then I went back again today -- a month later. This time, an older man who was working on a piece of jewelry, stopped what he was doing, and asked what I needed help with when he saw me waiting. I asked if he could repair the movement. He opened up my watch, said that there was no battery in there, and suggested that my watch only needed a battery. And it worked! He charged me $15.99. He added that if there were any problems with the movement or battery, I could bring it back, and he would give me a 15% discount. I'm not sure what happened to the battery that was supposed to be in my watch, or why that lady insisted that the movement needed to be repaired, but I am SO GLAD that I waited. (Also, I saw a couple there who were repeat customers. The man was wearing a shiny new watch.
