I brought in a ring because I have spent years trying to solve the mystery of its maker's mark, probably over 100 hours. I asked the staff 4 or five separate times to please make sure the maker's mark was researched and identified, my understanding is this is what I was paying for and the assistant said "we will research it and it should be ready by Friday (dropped off 10am Tuesday) . I was quoted $300 for a standard turnaround, but because I didn't want to waste any more time, I paid a $400 rush fee to get answers by Friday. What did my $400 get me? Absolutely ZERO information. I am convinced the gemologist spent less than 10 minutes on my ring. Not only did they completely ignore my repeated requests to research the maker's mark, but they also failed to identify the most basic elements of the jewelry: * No metal identification (even though it has tested out as sterling silver twice before). * No stone carat size listed at all, measurement don't help me. It feels like because my ring didn't say "Tiffany" or "Cartier," this business decided it wasn't worthy of their time or professional effort. If it isn't an expensive luxury brand, they have ZERO respect for it. I am a "dog with a bone" when it comes to solving mysteries, and I will find the answers myself. But save yourself the headache, the time, and the $400. If your jewelry matters to you--whether it's Tiffany or from Avon--take it to an appraiser who actually cares about their customers and knows how to do their job. Avoid this place at all costs! I asked if she could give me a lower price, since I knew from past experience that replacing the battery for my watch should only cost $8-$15. She insisted that $25 was standard. I went with it, and came back 30 minutes later. She told me that my watch didn't need a new battery -- the movement needed to be fixed. She quoted me $75-$85. I said I'd think about it. Then I went back again today -- a month later. This time, an older man who was working on a piece of jewelry, stopped what he was doing, and asked what I needed help with when he saw me waiting. I asked if he could repair the movement. He opened up my watch, said that there was no battery in there, and suggested that my watch only needed a battery. And it worked! He charged me $15.99. He added that if there were any problems with the movement or battery, I could bring it back, and he would give me a 15% discount. I'm not sure what happened to the battery that was supposed to be in my watch, or why that lady insisted that the movement needed to be repaired, but I am SO GLAD that I waited. (Also, I saw a couple there who were repeat customers. The man was wearing a shiny new watch.
