I needed a watch band re attached to the housing and they kept it overnight and then charged me for the repair only to pick it up and find out the job wasn't complete. You would think a business that buys silver would understand makers marks on sterling silver. After telling the guy the two spoons were sterling silver, he took a quick glance and said it was silver plated. That the lion mark has one paw up and that meant plated. He said sterling had both paws on the ground. I went to another dealer and he confirmed it was sterling silver and even gave me the silversmith's name. Everything was .925 (sterling) but there were some rhinestones, etc. so I agreed. Al and his son, I'm going to say AJ, always are pleasant and polite to us and always give us the feeling of being welcome. The conversations that we get into with the staff and customers are the most delightful of diversions from a busy day. To be sure, the store has not been interested in every item we bring in, but I don't expect them to. Do NOT take ancient coins to this shop. They do not know how to properly clean them and will use very abrasive chemicals, a process known to corrode fine details on your coin. I am not giving them a single star only because they sized my ring properly and (fairly) quickly. The staff was kind enough, but their jeweler is poorly educated on how to preserve the details and quality of ancient pieces. Scammers! I came in with an old class ring to sell. Based on what I saw on the internet, I only expected $100 at most for the ring. Immediately when I entered I had the feeling I was going to be scammed. The guy behind the counter asked what I expected for the ring, so I said $100 (expecting him to bargain with me). He proceeded to say I didn't know what I was talking about and that, after "calculating" the weight, which I was not allowed to see, he told me it was only worth $60. I kindly said I was going to check out other shops to see what I could get and started leaving. Then, he said he would give me $80. I said no and walked out. As I started leaving in my car, another employee ran out and flagged me down, saying they would pay me $100. At this point, I obviously knew they were trying to screw me over, so I left. I went to Missouri Gold Buyers & Jewelry, which is only 5 minutes away, and guess what? No song and dance about me not knowing anything about jewelry prices, just friendly, quick service. The man behind the counter at Missouri Gold Buyers showed me his calculations, and do you know how much my ring was worth? $170. I was in and out in 5 minutes.
