Quality/Quantity - We flew Alaska on this trip. Easy in and out. SFO to JFK. No nonsense on this trip. My daughter dropped us off at the airport, we lounged, and then hopped on our plane. We got off our plane, grabbed our luggage and started our vacation. We did not pay extra for our airplane food and instead brought our own. Well my wife did. I don't really eat when flying. This and Hawaiian used to be our airline when going to the Hawaiian islands. But we have been flying Southwest since they added that route. Now that Southwest has really gone downhill, we might be changing back to Alaska and Hawaiian. This is my buddy's favorite airline to Las Vegas from SFO. Ambiance - JFK Terminal 8 has 60+ shops and restaurants. Many of which take online orders. 38 relaxation or lounge options. We did not get a chance to visit the lounge, we just went straight to our hotel after getting off the plane. Alaskan Airlines - A small plane, think Southwest size. Wifi available. 342 planes. 128 destinations. Service - Mostly online. From booking to paying, including our baggage payment and check-in. 24 hour online check-in for our flight. Price - We pay extra for direct flights. We pay extra to select our seats; our assigned seats cost as much as our plane tickets, lol. $550 for two. I've gone through this terminal a few times and unfortunately I had a pretty terrible experience on my last trip. I had a longer layover so I visited another lounge in another terminal and left about 1.5 hours to get back through to T8 and my flight. From terminal to terminal was fast and easy, maybe 10 minutes. This is where the problems started. It was a Sunday evening and TSA was really short staffed. I had pre check and was at the front of the line but because they started routing other passengers through our line I waited 45 minutes just to get past security and almost missed my flight! Everyone was pretty nervous. There was a lack of management and leadership or care to get things resolved at the lines. Once you got to the screening areas it was a little faster but I had to run to my gate which wasn't that close. I don't know that I'd ever risk trying to go to another lounge like that again or if I did I'd try to leave a lot earlier and save myself the hassle of that stress. read more

When flying to work in our NYC office, I had a few airports to choose from but settled on JFK. I liked the flight options with American Airlines. When arriving, I began to realize just how large this airport is. Both my arrival and departure were out of Terminal 8, which had plenty of shopping and dining. Lines can be long, but they move! I'd definitely leave 2.5-3 hours if checking a bag like me to feel less rushed. If you have extra time, then it's time to dine (my catchy saying for airport travel lately)! My coworker and I loved Nolita Wine Bar, and I'm thinking this airport will be my airport for when coming out to NYC for work. read more

John F. Kennedy International Airport is my least favorite anywhere on the planet. I don't care what terminal you're in 8 or 666! It is horrible to get where I'm going when I arrive. I feel like I need a guide to find my boarding place. Once I arrived at my destination but my luggage arrived a couple days later. I try my best to fly out of La Guardia if at all possible. I can just imagine how bad it's been using lately considering the economy and lack of quality infrastructure and employees leaving the industry. Going from my timeshare on west 57th street to gate 31 of Terminal 8. Started at 1230pm, taking a long subway ride and then waited for AirTrain at Jamaica station at 120pm. Massive crowds at the AirTrain station. 20 minutes between AirTrains that day, and when it arrived it was standing room only together with your luggage. Had to go through the complete circuit of AirTrain, with 6 stops before arriving at terminal 8 at 155pm The usual double line at TSA, one to check boarding passes and ID, and a second line to screen carry on luggage. Out of TSA by 210pm. 20-minute walk to gate 31. You pass Concourse B, and have to walk through a 1500 foot long tunnel with moving sidewalks beneath the aircraft taxi area, to newly built Concourse C. Once on Concourse C, you walk from gate 42 to 31, at the very end of concourse C. Arrived at gate 31 at 230pm. And yes, there are four sets of bathrooms in Concourse C. read more

7 a.m. flights are already rough, but the customer service here made the experience even worse. Every employee I encountered was rude and unpleasant--not a single person greeted me, which I thought was a pretty basic part of customer service. The bathroom also only had one working soap dispenser. I'm giving it 3 out of 5 stars because, logistically, everything went smoothly with my journey. But overall, I'll stick to LGA and only come here when it's absolutely dire. read more

ONE STAR -- an unnecessarily hostile and humiliating TSA experience at JFK Terminal 8. On September 5, at approximately 1:30 p.m., we went through security before our 2:40 p.m. American Airlines flight to Los Angeles. The checkpoint had an enormous line. Of approximately eight to ten visible screening lanes, only two appeared to be operating. We were traveling with two small toddlers, yet when the queue divided, a representative directed us into a line that was actually longer and moved even more slowly. After our carry-on bags were screened, we politely asked the TSA officer inspecting our belongings why the line was so long and why only two lanes were operating. Instead of offering a professional explanation, he became defensive and responded, "Are you going to pay to hire more staff?" This was a completely inappropriate and confrontational response to a reasonable question. We were not rude or aggressive. After waiting in an exceptionally long line with two young children, we simply wanted to understand what was happening. A brief explanation--or even a basic acknowledgment of the delay--would have been enough. The same officer then removed two new, unopened bottles of water intended for our toddlers and threw them directly into a trash bin. He did not ask whom they belonged to, explain the applicable procedure, or warn us before discarding them. When we immediately told him that the water was for our two little children, he retrieved the bottles from the trash and handed them back to us without any explanation or apology. Throwing children's water into a garbage bin and then returning it to their parents was disturbing, unhygienic, and astonishingly unprofessional. We understand the importance of airport security and were prepared to cooperate with any necessary additional screening. Our objection is not to security rules--it is to the officer's needless hostility, sarcastic remark, complete lack of communication, and careless handling of items intended for two small children. Our toddlers were confused and frightened, and we felt publicly humiliated simply for asking a legitimate question. People in positions of authority should be able to enforce security procedures without mocking or antagonizing passengers. We have traveled through many airports and have never encountered such hostile and unprofessional treatment during security screening. This became the final--and deeply unpleasant--memory of our family's visit to New York. JFK and TSA management should review what occurred at the Terminal 8 checkpoint at approximately 1:30 p.m. on September 5. This officer's conduct was completely unacceptable and should not represent the standard of passenger treatment at one of the world's best-known airports. read more

The sheer Euphoria of being back " home". The familiar sounds - the accents of the airport personnel, Billy Joel's " Piano Man" playing on the loudspeaker in the baggage claim area. The fact that imho that the world's best airline, American Airlines flies in and out of this Terminal. The Terminal has been updated. I have never experienced any traffic issues or parking situations in my last 19 years of being a commercial frequent flyer. The parking lot for T8 is bigger with loads of outdoor spaces. The Terminal is immaculate. It is the last terminal in the loop allowing for a quick hop on to the airport exits. The lounges - the SoHo and Chelsea lounges are the very best of the best and open longer hours. Love the showers and the sushi plus the lox and espressos at 7 am; then the hot patties at Golden Krust and the Dunkin' Kawfee lite n sweet' that scream "only in NY". read more

Crying laughing that this terminal has its own specific Yelp page. While getting to the terminal is an adventure, the rest is pretty good! Security is organized and quick, especially with pre-check. There's plenty of food options ahead of the gates and tons of seating with plugs all across the dining hall. Down at the gates are all the classics, Hudson News, Starbucks, etc. Everything is clean, spacious and looks new! read more

Terminal 8 at JFK hosts the following airlines: Alaska, American, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, China Southern, Finnair, Hawaiian, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Level, Qantas, Qatar Airways, and Royal Jordanian. In the past couple months I had the chance to fly in and out a few times with Alaska Airlines, British Airways and Qatar Airways. For some reason when I fly out of this terminal 2 out of 3 times (with different airlines) it wouldn't let me check in online so I had to do so in person at the counters. Glad to say check-in and bag drop off both times (British and Qatar) was a breeze, very short lines around 3:30pm (for BA) and 9am (for QA). There are about 4 dozen check-in counters for various airlines set up along 4 main aisles. It's not a huge terminal so there is only one main security checkpoint that all customers are funneled through. Lines usually aren't too bad without TSA precheck maybe 30 min, with TSA precheck then around 5-10 min. After security, walking towards the gates it doesn't take more than 10 min to get to your gate in any direction. Currently construction is ongoing so parts of the walkways are re-directed--generally speaking there is a duty free store area to the left after security, and some restaurants in the middle section before heading to specific gate numbers. The Shake Shack right after security is pretty popular, food is on par other Shake Shacks. I haven't been to many other restaurants in this terminal so open to any other recommendations too! JFK airport, well at least terminal 8, is so easy to navigate. It's a huge airport, but it's easier to find your way around than our tiny Austin airport. It's clean and there weren't any lines at security from what I saw! It's so easy to find ground transportation. Literally just follow the signs around a few corners and you are exactly where you need to be to find taxis and ride share pickups. Loved that we didn't have to walk 5 miles or find a secret level of a hidden parking garage just to get a ride. We chose a taxi because they are flat rate from JFK and were cheaper than Lyft when I checked. I'm sure that fluctuates, but taxis are working to compete with ride share prices to earn business back. **Beware of the unauthorized drivers trying to divert you from the Yellow Taxi stand! They are not taxi or "black car" and they are more expensive. Don't get in the car with random strangers, guys!** We flew in mid-day on a Saturday and it wasn't busy at all. Well, that's true until you leave and find all the traffic in the world. But getting out of the airport was super easy! read more

T8 at JFK is primarily used for American Airlines, and is also one of the airlines Major Hubs, their main headquarters is at DFW. JFK has a total of 5 Terminals operated by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey combined. It is multi-leveled, ground floor for baggage claim, and an upper level for check-in. American Airlines Admiral's Club located in Concourse C across of Gate 42 There is also Chelsea Lounge and SoHo Lounge above Gate 14, and Greenwich Lounge above Gate 12. You can also find a food hall with full service restaurants, Starbucks, Dunkin, Duty Free Shops, and many vending machines from makeup to pharmacy and others to name a few. The TWA Hotel located right across of T5 with a walking bridge that connects the terminal itself to the hotel. This is easily accessible via sky train. You can also connect to the other terminals through out JFK. Very user friendly airport, also other off location hotels are linked via a shuttle van service from the respected Hotel Brands. Passenger pick up is located outside of baggage claim at several bays marked with letters starting with A. Very high security, on occasion you'd also see Airport Police and/or Military when political events arise around the country or the rest of the world. read more

The short security line at Terminal 8 was a positive, but still somehow the check-in process seemed to lag. A minor inconvenience was the complete failure of the charging stations between gates 33 and 35. It's unacceptable that not a single one of the seemingly dozens of charging ports I sampled (at least five) was working. I eventually found a small number of working outlets near gate 39. read more

The Good: - Pretty New and Modern - The Boroughs Food Hall with a couple of restaurants (Naya, Boss Bagels, Flavor Town ) - Prices are only a couple of dollars more than outside the airport - Seats with outlets to charge devices The 'Meh: - So new that there's still a good amount of "coming soon" establishments aka more variety coming in 2030 - Besides Naya and Shake Shack, the options aren't that exciting - Overall the terminal is pretty sterile minus two cool works of art by Charles Farrizino (sorry if I butchered the last name) - Some seats aren't actually plugged in so there's no power to charge your devices. - No Priority Pass lounge. read more

Good selection of lounges if ur flying Oneworld carriers. The terminal itself is ok, quieter than terminal 4... but there's a lot of construction inside this terminal so not many venues open. TSA lines are quick, but later in the night (after ~9-ish) they cut down to 1-2 checkpoints, so it can get backed up pretty quickly. If you are on one of those late flights and have pre-check, show your boarding pass at metal detector and they will let you use it (no one announces this, ifkyk) They do have a shake shack now, so at least it has that going for it. read more

I've traveled through JFK more times than I can count and if you've visited NYC, you understand the assertive/aggressive nature..then add the airport element to that. Very nice staff at help desk. We arrived early for our flight, so there was no flight info on a display. She also suggested to go to terminal 1 or 5 since we had a while to wait before the flight. This is one huge, really huge terminal. It is beautiful with plenty of shops and restaurants. Give yourself plenty of time if your leaving from here as travel from one end to the other can take a fair amount of time. Having our TSA precheck was a huge savings in time. Not only did we get on a shorter line but it also moved very quickly. You'll move through the crowds by walking or taking the indoor beltway. Checking is was relatively easy and quick as they use very modern systems in this newer terminal. There are many places to stop along the way to your gate and sometimes you need to do that so once again... give yourself plenty of time to get in and situated. Once you find your terminal area there is plenty of space to sit and make yourself comfortable. We found a great Pizza shop and right behind them was a Starbucks and Dunkin. A great start to a six hour flight. There was a charging station and computer desk area by our gate. The charging station worked fine but non of the outlets worked at the computer desk. Yet another reason to keep your batteries charged. By budgeting a good travel time you'll be more comfortable here and not find any reasons to rush. Enjoy your flight. Probably the worse terminal. Ever. With the exception of how quickly we got our luggage checked in... thanks to early arrival, no long lines at Cathay Pacific counter... TSA peeps just hates their jobs here. Not helpful whatsoever. There was one guy who literally threw someone's bag... but didn't give any instructions. Everything else is just bare. Empty. They need to revamp this terminal. Please bring lounges to this crappy terminal so people can actually have a little bit of joy.... To this miserable terminal. Bright side, it's empty and soulless when you take a midnight flight... so hey, solo travelers for the win. read more

The terminal has little kiosks that can help you get started on your journey. They can print out boarding passes and print your checked luggage tag. If needed, there is personal standing by if needed. TSA can be a hit or miss, but for the most part it's a hit, it tends to go fast, specially if you have TSA-precheck, that's always super useful! I enjoy how spacious the terminal is, plenty of space to move along the airport with all your bags. The terminal does have a lot "under construction" walls and signs, and so that's a little annoying, however, new restaurants and other things are opening so that should be a nice little addition. Duty free is uneventful to me, I think it's really small and not very appealing, that could use some work. There are a couple of those Hudson news stands with all your NYC needs, they are a bit pricey but it is the airport so it's to be expected. The gates are spread apart so, sometimes you do have to walk a lot, but on the contrary side, most of the gates ARE spacious with lots of seating and charging stations so that's nice. The airport for the most part is clean, and the same with the bathrooms, they've update them so they are a lot nicer and a lot cleaner which I highly appreciate! Their air-train is not the most reliable though, I must say, it's been out of service on and off a little too often but when it works, it's fast and efficient. Catching a Lyft or an uber is super easy too, outside, they have their designated areas so it's easy to find and it's at the same level as baggage claim. I think jfk can definitely use more art work and NY inspired signs, there is room for improvement which I'm really hoping to see in the near future, but it's a comfortable airport, and I do enjoy flying in and out of there. read more

TERMINAL 8 at JFK TSA pre was a breeze but no clear very disappointing. Bag check-in bag check-in was a breeze pre-check was a breeze very pleased with the level of Customer Service and plenty of establishments or eateries in terminal 8 I was even able to get a beer and a double black label Johnny Walker neat which is for all my double black label crew. I normally don't fly American Airlines but I'm gonna give them a chance so far so good. I'll keep y'all posted.! read more

Literally no food options as of June 2025 (by that I mean there is like 4 places to pick from total right now). Everything says coming "Spring 2025" so when all these things open, it'll be better for sure :) Otherwise it's fine. It's an airport terminal! Takes about 15 minutes to walk from one end to the other with a giant escalator up & down in between. Dos Toros is on one end (like a Chipotle) and Shake Shack is on the other end, so choose wisely and commit to save yourself the 1/2 hour round-trip, lol! read more

While flying through JFK to get to Madrid, we utilized Terminal 8. It's loaded with American Airline flights and lounges as well. There are the Business series lounges, like Soho, and the Flagship lounge too. There's plenty of space in between terminals to accompany the much larger, wide-body international flights. I was pleasantly surprised that Terminal 8 arrival is so much cleaner and organized than Terminal 5. The bathroom was clean, and the terminal was more spacious and not cramped. And the service of American Airlines is so much better than JetBlue. read more

I am not a fan of big huge airports. JFK airport terminal #8 is no exception. Just too big. I have to say out of all the airports I have been to terminal 8 has the worst food selection. The only good choice was Dunkin Donuts other than that the food sucks. The airport terminal was clean and easy to navigate. I generally try to fly American Airlines as I like them the best. American only flys out of terminal 8. I will definitely be going in and out of terminal 8 many times in the future and will try to go not hungry so i do not have to buy food. read more

I find myself in this JFK terminal as most of my flights in and out of this airport is with American Airlines. It's the last stop on the AirTrain loop. TSA screening is pretty easy here as they've been using the newer scanners so that nothing needs to be removed from your baggage. They are currently in the process of renovating this terminal to make it more modern. Food options are pretty terrible right now. I'm usually here early in the morning so Dunkin' is probably the only place that looks appealing. read more
