    Pollo Frito

I had no idea what to expect my first PR/DR review . I have no idea if this is a Puerto Rican or Dominican restaurant But I had a memorable experience. First thing this is a take out restaurant but there's a few table if you choose to eat there since we are right by the east village trolley. I ordered a pollo frito with plantains which took a bit of time. But it's okay because it's fresh. The chicken was great very well seasoned and extra crispy yet juicy. Rice and beans also savory and plantains which were full of life don't expect the fine dining experience, again this this a take out spot with limited hours

Wow! As a Rican from the island this was everything I needed! I will be back again! The lechón arroz con gandules everything was so delicious!

Food 6/10 Service 6/10 Ambiance 6/10 Came this restaurant about a month ago when I was craving Puerto Rican food. This place was a hot mess from the moment we walked in. Came around 7 pm and per Yelp the hours said they were still open. When we get there it was clearly a club that also served food which I had no problem with but the man by the entrance and our waiter started arguing about letting us in since the waiter claimed they weren't open anymore. The guy argued they were still serving food. After a long time of seeing them in the corner argue back and forth she finally came to get our order... we ordered the Mofongo plate and the Lechon plate, both were extremely salty. Ever since I've been to Puerto Rico I've been looking for something comparable, but this unfortunately just didn't do it for me. Music was so loud, it was obnoxious. I don't recommend this place at all. It was expensive and not even worth it.

Great service and the food was just like my mom's. Ambiance was good with latino music in the background.

We moved here from Chicago and couldn't find a Puerto Rican restaurant at all. This place popped up in search and thought we'd try it out. Good food and friendly service. A fun place, looks like it's a nightclub in the evenings.

We drove two hours to dine at the only Dominican restaurant that I could find in all of So Cal. And it was all deeeeelicious! I love that almost everything is fried, from the empanadas, to just straight up cheese. We also saw something else on the menu that we had never seen before, a pina mojito. The pineapple perfectly masked the alcohol so you couldn't even taste it. I had to get some fried empanadas to start. Dominican empanadas are actually called pastelillos and are all fried. These are meant to be an appetizer, but they're pretty damn big. Lechon plate is probably my favorite dish. This slow roasted pork is so juicy and served with pickled onions. The chimichurri burger will be my choice on my next visit.

Delicious and one of a kind. Done right with traditions and served with passion. Full of flavor and fresh. Staff are kind and greet you every time, been 2x and wait to go bank for more. Simplistic menu but definitely a few times to go to try it all. Readable prices with a happy hour too. Place is kept clean with plenty of tables indoors. Great music and plenty of parking.

Yucca frita, lechon with arroz con condules, platanos, beef empanada, alcapurria

Food was delicious and authentic. Call ahead because it's only pick up or delivery for now. Could have easily ordered more, but we're out of towners. Owner was super friendly and nice. Go check them out when in San Diego.

Amazinggg place, a hidden gem for sure which is crazy cause it's right across from Hans and Harry's. Tostones- crispy and flavorful with a kickin garlic sauce for the garlic lovers (me) Empanada- breading is so thin and crispy, the filling was super flavorful but it did seem not filled enough Mofongo plate- the best thing there. a heaping amount of meat inside a thick bowl made of mashed plantains, simple but incredible. recommend replacing with their lechon, the best meat Bistec plate- sweet marinated steak that reminded me of tomatoes, good but meat was just slightlyyy too tough Jibarito plate- simple but delicious. the fried plantain is perfectly crispy and pairs great with the meat and spanish rice Parking is easy, located in a huge lot

Food was great, service was on point. I had the sampler platter and it was hot and fresh. I would come again with my friends and family.

Stumbled upon this restaurant the first time, when I got free delivery from - you know, one of those food delivery companies. I wanted something different, and this is, in a good way! This time I ordered online for pick-up. I guess this restaurant has only been here a couple of years and shares the space with La Luz Lounge Night Club- right across from Hans and Harry's, which is definitely a bonus because, desserts! So far we tried: Mofongo- plantain mashed with garlic and served with your choice of shrimp or lechon on top. I chose lechon (pork). I never had mashed plantains with garlic, but it works. This dish is strong on garlic, but I loved every bite. The crispy fried pork skin on top is perfection. This is my favorite so far, and the price is fair for the hefty portion I got. Papa Rellena - Potato-filled ball with ground beef center. Mmmm, a crispy light outer crust breaks open to the mashed potato filling with a seasoned ground beef center. Queso frito- Fried cheese squares. Exactly what the name says. Makes a funny squeaky sound as you chew it hahaha Alcapurria- Plantain and yautia fritter filled with meat. a very interesting and unusual combination (to me, at least). I liked it. Pastellio - Beef, Chicken, or Pizza filled empanadas. My son's favorite! He craves and hounds me to get these almost every week. We had them today, and he asked to get more tomorrow. We tried all of them, but the chicken is his most favorite. A must-try. Service was great, everyone was super welcoming and friendly, and there is plenty of parking in the shopping center which also has the Bonita Post Office, Starbucks, Graciela's Taco Shop, and KFC. If you're looking to try something different and delicious, I recommend this Puerto Rican and Dominican establishment!

As a Colombian who has been craving authentic Colombian cuisine since my last visit to New York in…read moreDecember, I can confidently say this restaurant truly satisfied those cravings. Being nearly eight months pregnant, my expectations were especially high, and it is rare to find a place that meets them so well. From the seasoning of the food to the warm and attentive service, everything about this restaurant stands out. Although I don't recall my server's name, he was incredibly kind and provided excellent service throughout. The ambiance is also worth noting--the space is large, offers plenty of seating options, and even features a large TV, making it a great spot to relax or watch sports. To start, I ordered a watered mango juice along with a beef empanada. The empanada exceeded my expectations--despite being on the smaller side, it was packed with flavor. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered five more to go, which speaks for itself. They were served with fresh ají, a traditional sauce that complemented them perfectly. For my main course, I had the carne asada plate, which included steak, rice, beans, sweet plantains, avocado, tomato slices, and a small arepa. Every component of the dish was well-executed--the beans were flavorful, the meat was well-seasoned, and the overall plate felt authentic. It is often difficult to find truly authentic Colombian food, especially in San Diego, where options are limited or not genuinely Colombian. This restaurant, however, delivers on authenticity and flavor. The portion size was generous, and I ended up taking leftovers home to enjoy later. In addition to the empanadas (two chicken and three beef), I also ordered a buñuelo and a cheese arepa to go. Unfortunately, these items did not meet the same standard. The arepa lacked flavor and was overly greasy, and the buñuelo was dry and similarly oily, even after absorbing excess grease from the bag. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for Colombian food, especially given how rare it is to find quality options in this area. Friends of mine visited recently as well and thoroughly enjoyed their bandeja paisa, further confirming the consistency of the food. I will definitely be returning--especially for those empanadas.

In the past, I've had some really great meals and experiences there, which is why this review is difficult to write. Unfortunately, during my most recent visit to the Clairemont Mesa location, the food quality was noticeably different from what I remembered. Several items tasted stale, cold, and as though they had been reheated. The beans were mushy and lacked flavor, and the plantains seemed old and not freshly prepared. Overall, the meal felt below the standard I had experienced there before. I'm sharing this not to criticize harshly, but because I genuinely remember this restaurant being much better and I hope they can return to the quality and freshness that made the place special in the past.
