OMG, these guys are the best! We had a problem with GFIs where the breaker seemed good but the the GFI and just some of the downstream outlets and GFIs were dead. For me it was a real head scratcher. Rick and Tony came out the next day and arrived ontime at 830 am. Within an hour they diagnosed and fixed the problem which was faulty wiring of the GFI. I told them they did not have to but they insisted on repeatedly putting on booties when coming into the house. They have a $200 fee for coming out that covers repairs if they do not need to install expensive equipment. I think that is very reasonable in today's world. Rick, who lead the team, strikes me as being honest as the day is long. It is so good to find intelligent, honest, and competitant craftsmen to fix stuff when it needs. My neighbor's tree fell, took out my powerlines and cable and PECO put it back up, but told me that the meter box and the wire from the box to the roof needed to be replaced. Knowing my Father-in-law was having his entire house rewired and hired one of the "best" in Montgomery County, I went over there looking for their name. I called those people and they wanted $89 to come out and give me an estimate. No thanks. Time to hit up Yelp. What is this projects thing? Created a yelp project for this electrical work, said I wanted Jim & Sons since everyone else loved their work, and then threw in a few others to get quotes. My insurance company then called me back and said I don't need quotes, just get who you want to do it. Jim & Sons was it. They gave me a quote, sent me an estimate to approve, and scheduled a day. I received a call about an hour before they arrived. They had to do some extra work, but that extra work was already advised on the quote. Before any work was done, they told me that. Perfect. My power was off for under three hours as they replaced everything and brought my house up to code. I had to remove my fridge, since it covers my water meter, and they wanted to ground to that. I moved the fridge before they got there and when they were finished up they put it back. That is really my only complaint. They put my fridge back... I didn't tell them, but I wanted to deep clean the floor and kitchen afterwards, starting where the fridge was. Again, my only selfish complaint is that they left the area nicer than they found it and now I have to decide if I want to move it out again to mop behind it. This was the first time I required an electrician and I don't have to search for one again. Any work in the future will be performed by them. Who's got a BF/husband/partner who runs hot? Mine is like a 6'5" nuclear reactor. So when he kept complaining that it was too hot in his office, it was decided that he needed a ceiling fan in there. Sounds simple enough, right? WRONG. The wiring in our house is, apparently, super convoluted, so what would normally be a quick weekend project turned into whole ordeal (and A LOT of curses, maledictions, imprecations, and vociferous anathemas). So I turned to Yelp projects (as one does). In less than five minutes from my initial inquiry, I got a message from Jim's, and they said they'd be over the next morning (and this was on a Sunday afternoon!). Their technician was on my doorstep at 9:00 the next morning, had the project finished--done and dusted, as they say--in less than an hour. And? The price was more than right. Our house is old and hasn't been updated much, so we needed some extra lines added, instead of having all the laundry and kitchen appliances, plus an air conditioner, on the same line (it kept blowing the fuse, as you can imagine!) Jim and Sons gave us the best price of three estimates we got, and was able to schedule the work quickly almost a year after the fact when we finally got around to it. A few weeks later, we discovered a small issue with the work that had been done, and Jim was very responsive and made sure to send out a team to correct it as soon as possible at no additional charge. I contacted Jim & Sons Electric to get an estimate for a relatively minor job, but one that I knew would turn into a major job if I did it myself. They advised me that they had a technician in the area, and could be out that same afternoon. Their tech showed up as promised, spent a few minutes evaluating the job and suggested that I order the light fixture of my choice, and let them know when I received it. I contacted Jim & Sons the day I received the fixture, and again, they had someone available to do the installation that same afternoon. TL;DR Professional electricians, clean work, timely and the right price Background: I collected at least 4 estimates from electricians for the work I needed. One electrician was eliminated because he suggested work that didn't need to get done and another electrician was eliminated because his quote was too low. I was left with 2 quotes that were comparable in price, one of which was Jim's. It was a hard decision to make given I don't know much about electrical work. Yet, two things stood out to me: 1) Jim included a few optional services like getting a totally new panel. He didn't mandate it but suggested it. He also gave me some background information on how to decide whether to do it now or later. 2) When his electricians came out for a quote I had them look at some of the other things the other electricians pointed out. Again, they gave me all of the information I needed to make an informed decision. I appreciate experts who help their customers understand what they are paying for. I had some ceiling fans installed and a panel upgrade done. Jim came to my home himself and gave an estimate. He made the drawing of the work and applied for the permit. On the day of the job, Jim was not present, in fact no one present was a licensed electrician (which I found alarming but apparently this is common practice). The work was done in a timely fashion and the price was reasonable. A switch needed to be moved, requiring some sheetrock work, the quality of which was mediocre at best (I had to re-spackle and re-sand it) however the electrical work was good quality.
