Bill F Terell Sheaf…read moreand Jordan recently visited our home for the second time in one week. The first time was to install a whole-house surge protector, connect a new electrical connection from the outdoor overhead electrical lines down to our meter in the basement and move the electric meter from the inside of our house to the outside front wall of our 2-story rowhouse (an additional fire protection upgrade). A week later, they returned to do some finishing safety-focused touches that were difficult to integrate into the first visit. Specifically, they: - rewired a single outlet in the living room with older wiring that was apparently missed in the 1980's when the house underwent a comprehensive electrical upgrade. The upgrade included adding AFCI circuit protection and running a new circuit from the panel - added GFCI protection and replaced faulty tandem switches in basement for washer and dryer - added GFCI protection and replaced faulty tandem switches in 2nd floor bathroom to remediate faulty functioning of heat lamp and fan - replaced existing two 3-way switches for upstairs hallway and and one in bathroom - AFCI circuit protection for the Homeline circuit panel Terell and Jordan appeared to have done an excellent job. Their teamwork, professionalism and obvious technical knowledge, experience with older houses and confidence was, like in their first visit (but moreso), obvious and appreciated. Terell in particular has a great touch with the client, exuding confidence, a great sense of humor and a desire to provide superior service to the client. He and Jordan make a great team. The two of them powered through the entire job in less than 3 hours (versus the 4 + estimated time to complete). As far as cost, the entire job, including the cost to obtain and coordinate post-job City of Philadelphia permits, came in at a very reasonable $1,000. Perhaps because we'd already sunk several times that into the first, more significant upgrade a week earlier, several items on the bill were discounted. Given the hours of highly skilled labor by the team, a couple fairly expensive equipment items and the fact that (pending City inspections) a fully modernized electrical system, I'm satisfied with the value Gen 3 provided on these two jobs. My overall experience (including a conversation with Amy about the Gen3 maintenance plan which I am definitely getting after satisfactory City inspections) was a 5+ stars. Highly recommended. Good people.

They over promised on outcome and timeline and underdelivered on both- the work took an extra week with extra damage to our floors, and initially left wires very sloppy in the basement (they did fix things upon multiple requests). We had to insist on having a final walk through and communication about the inspection- I expected better transparency and communication from a professional company.

When we were changing a lightbulb in our overhead light, a portion of the lightbulb got stuck in place and we couldn't get it out. We have a regular electrician that we use, but since this was such a minor thing, we decided to call someone who was a bit closer. Biggest mistake ever. Mike came in with the goal of upselling. He charged us $395 for a "diagnostic" of our existing electric panel and outlets, hence determining that they needed to be replaced. The work we called him for took under 1 minute to complete. We thought this would be a quick job and my husband, Mark, initially started the interaction with him. When, after more than an hour, he was still there, Mark asked me to come downstairs so he could begin his work shift (we both work from home). I had been upstairs with our 2 dogs, attempting to keep them from barking at Mike, jumping up, etc. When I came downstairs, Mike was outside in his truck working up the quote for our electric system and sockets. This took him ... so long to complete. Meanwhile, my house was left in shambles. He propped himself up on a shelf that we had hanging on our wall, knocking it over. That was still on the floor, along with the knick knacks that had been on top of it. In telling us our fire protection was insufficient, he removed a smoke detector from our upstairs ceiling and didn't put it back. We had inquired about a socket that had only one working outlet and asked for a price to replace it. When I came downstairs, the socket cover was off and an instrument of some kind was protruding out of it. When he finally came back in our house, I was annoyed by the state he had left everything in. I felt as if he did a shoddy job on what we actually called him for in hopes that he'd snag more work from us. Mind you, he took payment before going outside to write us a quote for the electrical upgrades, but again, didn't replace the items he moved. Mike made a big deal about the socket, telling my husband he'd replace it for "free." It's not free when we were charged $395! BUT, if the cost wasn't enough, the socket STILL DOES NOT WORK. We still can only plug one thing in. For whatever reason the lamp we have sitting next to our couch will not fit into the outlet. Mark called and asked about it and Mike told him that it's tight initially. We have both tried several times to plug it into that outlet with no luck. It works in every other outlet except that one. To add insult to injury, when Mike finally came back in our house after writing a ridiculous quote for thousands of dollars he calls out "Mark." I said that Mark was upstairs. "Is he available," he asks me. I tell him Mark is working and that I'm his wife. "Is Mark available," he says. I'm annoyed at this point and say "it's weird that you didn't finish work that we paid you for before going to write another quote." He seems confused. I go and get Mark and he goes over the quote with Mark, but won't look at me, or hold the quote close enough that I can even see it. This was totally disrespectful. We make decisions together and ignoring me was completely unacceptable. We will never again use Thomas Edison Electric Inc. again and do not recommend them.
