My College daughter took her 05 Volvo in for a bearing. She dropped the car off and was told $450 for the bearing and the labor. I checked in with my trusted mechanic back home for guidance. Jims was over charging her for the labor. The part was the same price however the labor was inflated. I called and confronted the Guy and I caught him off guard! He said it would take 30 minutes to determine what bearing it was. REALLY!! LOL Any good mechanic can drive it around the block to determine what wheel it is. 30 minutes.. OUCH! He like many rip off places will take advantage of a young women if given the chance. When I confronted him on the phone he got cocky with me and defensive. I said do what you need to do at this point but we will never be back here again. My daughter went to pick up the car and he didnt do anything. Didnt bother to tell her either. Who does that? He was caught in a lie and didnt want the business from us! Oh well! My advise... If you try this on one customer you will do it to others! DONT GO HERE! read more

I took my 2004 Volkswagen Golf in here today with a "check engine" light and various other small issues. I was given a quote about an hour after I dropped the car off. Danny explained the issues to me and gave me a very fair quote, comparable or less than other places. Unlike some other garages, Danny agreed to use the headlight I had purchased from Autozone rather than charge me for a new headlight. My oil change was under $50 for synthetic blend. I was able to pick my car up just before five. Danny accepted my credit card payment and showed the defective parts to me. Ultimately, with the good service I received here and the fact that it is across the street from work, there is no reason for me to go anywhere else. read more

I called Danny about a brake flush, and the price he quoted was roughly twice as much as the independent shop where I usually have my car work done. In fact, his quoted rate was even higher than what the dealership charges! He told me he could do it for the same price as quoted by the other shop, but that he would only replace the fluid in the master cylinder and would not bleed the fluid from the brake calipers (essentially skipping 75% of the work). Both the independent shop and the dealership I called said that only replacing the fluid in the master cylinder is not an acceptable way to do the procedure, as most of the dirty old fluid is still stuck in the brake lines and does not get recirculated. Considering the high price here, you might as well just go to the dealership and get some free coffee and wifi while they work on your car. Needless to say, I didn't have the work done at his shop. read more

Oil changes here are more than what I pay at the dealership but I still bring my car here every other oil change for an honest check-up. Also, this is the only place I take my car to if I have any car problems. Dan, the main mechanic, is great and EXTREMELY honest. He is very fair for pricing and will only work on what actually needs to be fixed. There are a lot of loyal clients here who always bring their car in to this shop, which is always a good sign. I'll start by saying that as a young, single woman, I am terrified of mechanics. I know very little about cars, and often feel that mechanics take advantage of that by overcharging me and pressuring me to take care of unnecessary "issues". They charge almost too little, give great advice, have deep knowledge (at least of SAAB) and they are centrally located. I called to schedule an appointment to have my rear suspension inspected, as the rear alignment is out on my car. was interrupted by a guy who said "we don't do suspensions." For some reason, I used to take my 2000 Nissan Sentra to the dealership all the time, even for oil changes. Then a few years ago, after they told me that it would cost $200 to fix something on the underside of the car that was causing it to screech horrifically every time I turned right, I took it to Jim Stephens', conveniently located just a few blocks from where I work, for a second opinion. Best decision ever: Danny quickly diagnosed the problem (I can't even remember what it was now) and charged me just 50 bucks to fix it. I've brought my car back there for all manner of mystifying car problems since, and I've never once thought that Danny was trying to charge me for work I didn't need. Now, whenever I get letters and postcards from the Nissan dealership warning me that my car is in danger of spontaneously combusting if I don't bring it in right away, I take great delight in tossing them in the recycling bin. read more

I have been going to Stephens Foreign car since 1989. Every time I have gone somewhere else I have been sorry. If Danny fixes it, ITS FIXED. I have tried probably 20 other alleged mechanics that were close or that were open on weekends, and the extra convenience just wasn't worth it. This facility is honest and will work to try and save you money. I do my own repair work when I have the time and know how, and if I'm not doing the repair myself, Stephens Foreign Car is the ONLY place I want even touching my vehicles. My wife and I moved to the area recently, and we were looking for a mechanic to change the water pump on our Toyota Celica. I called and spoke with Dan since the other reviewers mentioned him by name. Upon speaking with Dan, he was not very friendly, and made us feel like we were more of a bother than he was interested in our business. He told us he wouldn't be able to get to us until the following week. He said he didn't have time to give me a quote and that he would call me back during lunch with a price.
