If you want to talk to someone, you need to show up. This office does not use any electronic system database and everything is paper/files. It took me months to get a follow up referral (that the doctor had recommended) because they had not submitted the referral. I called the office countless times, left voicemails, and no responses. Once I finally spoke to someone, they said they'd be submitting the referral before the end of the week.... One month later and it still wasn't submitted until I went into person and asked for it to be done. Additionally, when I had an appointment with Dr. Marmarelis, I was disappointed in the lack of professionalism I experienced. After waiting 30 minutes for my appointment, in the middle of my appointment, he stepped out to take a phone call and in doing so, left my files AND another patients files in the room with me. It concerns me and makes me wonder if my own records are being left haphazardly around the office and my information is not being protected. The doctor did not seem to truly care of my symptoms, previous history or helping me improve my health. He quickly prescribed Topamax, while making a disgusting comment that "women love it because they lose weight." I was truly appalled. Then said my migraines were something to just manage, despite being truly debilitating at times. He was dismissive, and I felt like he didn't care about what I was saying. He quickly concluded that because my mom had headaches, it's just something I have to live with. There was no curiosity, no attempt to dig deeper. He immediately wanted to prescribe Topamax and Sumatriptan and call it a day. When I voiced concerns about the side effects I had read about, he scoffed and told me not to believe what I'd read-saying it wasn't true. His demeanor was very "know-it-all," without taking the time to understand me as a patient. My headaches have gone from a couple per month to daily, and his response was simply that I need to take the medication and "follow the process for insurance purposes." That's it. This is exactly why western medicine gets such a bad rap. I left the appointment feeling strange, frustrated, and dismissed. I came in hopeful for guidance and understanding, but it ended up feeling like a complete waste of time and energy. I would highly suggest seeing a different neurologist.

The medical building shares parking facilities with the hospital next door (Lakewood Regional Medical Center) as well as another medical building, where my new primary doctor practices. 2) Their office needs an upgraded phone system. There have been times when I've called and gotten a busy signal, so I couldn't even leave a voicemail message to have someone call me back. 3) Their office has no patient portal and the website address printed on their business cards does not work, so there is no way to reach them via online. 4) I understand Dr. Rawal is only doing his job as a physician, but he wanted to replace one of my blood pressure medications with an EXPENSIVE brand-name one, in additional to adding another expensive medication. My pharmacy informed me that my health insurance does NOT cover the cost of either. 5) I was given information on starting the Mediterranean diet, but my casual observation of the ladies in the front office revealed that a couple of them could benefit from it. :-/ I have a lot to think about before scheduling another appointment. The search for the right cardiologist continues.

I did not ask for anything extraordinary. This was just a standard check up and they couldn't even give me the courtesy of doing that right. He treats you like a human being before anything else. He listens, he cares, and he never pushes unnecessary medications or tests. I received a collections notice for a Zio Monitor worn in November 2024 by a different patient. Dr…read more Shandling's office registered the device under my information with iRhythm technologies even though I had not been seen in that office since 2010. As I had moved out of the area 15 years prior, I never received any bill and the bill was sent to collections. It took multiple phone calls over several days to get anyone to help look into this case. Finally, the billing manager at Dr. Shandling's office admitted that someone entered my information instead of the correct patient's information so I was being billed for the service that patient received. I don't understand how this could have happened as I had not visited that office for 15 years, my chart should have been archived. There was no mention of how this happened or what would be done to prevent it from happening again. I'd think twice about coming here as mixing patient information is a serious concern and there were no/insufficient checks in place to ensure the correct information was entered. UPDATE: As of 05/21/2025, the balance from the collections company is still showing. Additionally, Dr. Shandling's office forwarded an email that inadvertently revealed the other patient's information including date of service, prescription number, device serial number, patient name, patient DOB, patient's insurance company, and patient's insurance ID number. This is a HIPAA violation. I have yet to receive confirmation that all records have been amended and reflect the correct information.
