Please if you value money and your guns do not go to Jim. Reference these pictures. I bought a new barrel for my first gun I've had for 20yrs ago. I asked him to move the recoil lug back (adult - youth length) he gave it back to me with an 1/8 in gap in the forend. Get this, I called him out on it and what did he say? "I should have never taken a job from you" and "It's a cheap gun it doesn't matter anyway". Also told me he wouldn't fix it. So I wasted a few hundred bucks. I asked about his "Masters in gunsmithing" he was bragging about and if he's proud to hand this quality of work to a customer. Stopped in and asked this asshat about a spring I needed. He didn't have it, could or would not order it and said it was impossible to make one! Master gunsmith my ass! I asked him about his training, he said he was schooled at a place I had probably never heard of, Lassen College in Susanville, Ca. I'm from Susanville and was personal friends with the head 'smith/teacher there...when I asked Jimmy who his teacher had been, he couldn't tell me, didn't remember. There were only two, Dunlap and Weiss, but he didn't know either. No certificates posted, nothing to show anything about this hammer mechanic. He didn't have time for me because he was trying to talk another customer into a $100.00 cleaning job on a Mini 14.....the guy is a phony POS! I wouldn't let him near any of my guns... read more

I typically don't write reviews very often, but this guy has to be reviewed. I needed a new sight put on my new desert eagle that I just bought. I did some research on local gun smiths in my area. I saw JIM'S Gunsmithing was close by. I read the reviews and was concerned about his attitude reading the reviews. I said what the heck I'll give him a shot. I called him and he started off sounding mad. I said is this jim and he said yes. He yelled at me after that and said is this for gun repair? I said no it's for something else. I told him that I read some bad reviews but was going to give him a fair shake. He than lost it and said I don't care what's on the internet I'm a master gunsmith. I then told him what they said about you is true your yelling at me and that's unacceptable. He then hung up. What a no class jerk!! Please no one use this mans service. More than 15 years ago I visited Jim's Gunsmithing shop. I had purchased a .264 Win. mag. used rifle and had shot a few rounds through it and couldn't get a decent group. I asked Jim to shoot some ammo through it and tell me if he thought the barrel was O.K. , or if it was shot out? When I returned to pick up the rifle he said it was a good shooter. Though, he never showed me the target he had used when he shot my rifle. After taking this same rifle to a few other gunsmiths and learning that my first assumption that the barrel was shot out, was actually correct, did I believe that you can't believe what Jim of Jim's Gunsmithing says. I had Jim install an Apex trigger in my Shield and he did an outstanding job. I clean my firearms extensively after every range session and even at that, Jim not only did a more extensive cleaning, but took the time to show me how to clean it better myself. Two days ago I purchased a new pistol from him and before he allowed me to take delivery, he tore the firearm down completely, cleaned it, and made sure it operated correctly and within specifications. Then, he took the time to show me who to care for it myself. (Every other shop from which I purchased a firearm only made sure I knew the basics, such as which end is the business end.) His prices are reasonable and the extra added, personal service is well worth saving a few bucks by shopping elsewhere. Jim will spend as much time with you as you need, and also has recommendations if he does not provide a specific service. read more

Have never had to write a negative review but have never had to deal with someone more unprofessional or unskilled as Tim. Workmanship was inexcusable, and required me to replace the parts he worked on. When I went back to talk to him about the work, he cut me off and went into a yelling tirade, telling me to take my parts and get out of his shop. Cost me hundreds of dollars and parts that had to be scrapped. read more

Jim is a very knowledgeable and experienced gun smith. I have always been treated fairly regards to costs. If you want quality work at a fair price, he is your guy. If you are expecting him to kiss your a-- to get your business, you might want to go elsewhere. read more

The most expensive shop in the area. The work was not the best I had work done on several weapons and found out that I could have saved half the cost and time shopping around town not to mention better quality workmanship. read more
