If you want a great chicken finger sub go to Ma Magoo's in fresh pond and thank me later. They are legitimately 10x better than this place. It's fine. I don't get the hype. They are literally the only place that serves food in north medford, so they have that going for them. So when you want a sub or something, they've got you covered. "Who's Jim?" / "Oh I used to be Jim but now my son is", said the original owner. His name is Paul :P... Apparently this used to be a butcher shop in a little lakeside neighborhood, next to cute ice cream shops and vacation homes in the 70's. The owner purchased it, kept the name, and turned it into a breakfast sandwich Mecca, where people come in droves just to hang out and eat. Wow. I got a B-Girl after I ran a half marathon this morning. It was sooo delicious. The sauce is unbelievable (they sell it by the gallon). The B-Girl is on the healthier side of the sandwiches but I definitely wouldn't consider any of them good for the health concerned. Ok I'm back at it. I just went here again and literally everything I loved about this place has changed. The whole store is just "fancy" now including my $7.07 bill (including a 10% tip) for 1 bacon bboy. My last review was raving about it because I was nostalgic about when I would take orders for kids in school when I had first period study hall senior year and the bboys were $1.25. I get inflation but 2 eggs and 2 pieces of bacon and cheese for $6+ is disgusting. The bread sucked today too and that used to be the best part. I walked in at maybe 630am and it was dead. I miss the days you'd walk in and there were 4 cops, 3 already twisted people, 2 people on their way to work at State Street in suits, 5 underage hungover kids, half of a local high school sports team, every construction worker within a 6 mile radius and a 70 year old guy who gets a bboy every morning. I don't know, maybe it's just me but I don't think I'll be going back. I liked walking in and people who were ordering had to move because where you order is right next to the door and you'd see dude on the grill cooking up gold. Now everything is hidden and I walked in and a man magically appears after I stood at the counter for 10 seconds, pulled out a sandwich and the floated back into the ether after I tapped the payment screen. Jim's is the truth. Jim's has been a go-to since we moved to the area. This is a quintessential business that understands its customers and caters to their needs. Need meatballs in your chicken finger sub? Got it. Need flamin hot Cheetos in your steak bomb? Can do. Need James River bbq sauce on everything? Ok. All the food is solid to excellent. But the wild menu items are where Jim's shines. My personal favorites are the Dave (sub w/ chicken fingers, meatballs, cheese and red sauce) and the Breakfast Fries with curlies (curly fries with James River bbq sauce, bacon, eggs and cheese). My fiancé loves the Chicken Finger Bomb (sub w/ chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, cheese and red sauce). The cold subs also big, fresh and satisfying. I have gotten Jim's dozens of times and never been disappointed. The B-Boy breakfast sandys are worth mentioning. Top notch hangover remedy. I go for the Clogger or J-Boy. Jim's social media presence is also entertaining - they will advertise off menu items every so often which are always cool. The market itself is super unassuming but inside you'll find a rotating selection of broadly 90s-centric snacks like Gushers and Dunkaroos. The dudes behind the counter are friendly and fast. I remember going here while cutting my first period class in high school to get one of their legendary breakfast sandwiches. They are called B-Boys. Why... who knows? Standard it is a slice of ham (bacon or sausage can be requested), egg, and cheese inside of a 12 inch roll. It is customary to load it up with their BBQ sauce, trust me. I went back on a day off recently and not much had changed at all. They sell so many of these that on the weekends they are stacked piping hot on the counter. It went there on a recommendation, I bought the roast beef sub as they don't have roast beef sandwiches. It was not good. I usually go to Londi's in Peabody, they know how to make to make a roast beef sandwich. Jim's roast beef was worse then Kelly's roast beef which is not saying much. I few pieces of cold roast beef and not enough sauce. At lest they use the good sauce , James River. maybe the other subs are good but don't go their for roast beef!!!! read more
