They accepted us as a walk in Sunday night around 7pm ish. About a 30 min wait and we got our designs quickly printed off and paperwork signed. Quoted for mine as it was like a 1.5 inch design at $150 but shop has a min of $100 so I wasn't super shocked. What we were somewhat shocked at was my girlfriend's design maybe about 3 inch grape hyacinth design that was fairly simple but at $200. It would be one thing if it was heavy in design but she was done in 15 minutes. We still went through with it but a little more than we were expecting. Mine was brought down to $125 as it only took maybe 10 mins to do mine. Both prices not including tip. Very nice and chatty workers and they had a handful of people come through while we were waiting for each other. I liked the design of the shop and all their flashes on the walls. As a California resident it's interesting to see the different standards on tattoo preparation and sanitation compared to back home. Happy with my design! read more

I went on my lunch break just to get a jewelry change. My daith came out. For background it's about a year old and I haven't had any issues in the past. I called and they picked up. Asked if they do jewelry changes ($15) and you can bring your own jewelry. I just find that if it falls out once it will again so just get something new. No problem there. I have popped in before without buying anything to always check what jewelry they have. They were nice everytime. This is my first time getting a service. I got a good CZ side set clicker ($30). He let me know it was plated. I had no problem with that honestly. The piercer super nice and quick. We had some quick conversation and she was cool. Explained everything. Got the jewelry in without rushing but it was fast. I did tip so I was all in $60 but I wasn't mad at it. I would recommend them and would go again. There is a lot of art on the walls for possible tattoo inspo and it is a vibe. When you walk to the back all the artists and piercers have their rooms decorated and I honestly loved that. When I walked in the front desk person (I wish I knew names sorry) was helping someone choose a tattoo and was helping him out but very quickly came to me. I'm always down to go with my friend on her piercing escapades, which usually leads me to a new piercing. Georgetown isn't my locale of choice, but went to town for our Sunday Funday. I simply parked in the garage to make my life easier. Studs was unexpectedly closed this early afternoon/late morning, even with a reservation still in place. Luckily, we found Jinx directly across the street and went there for piercings and new jewelry. We beat the rush and had ample time to talk through the experience, styling, and jewelry. Kaleb checked us in at the front and patiently answered questions. Our piercer, Andrea, was sweet as pie. She made sure I was happy with the placement of my new holes and in no time, I now have a new set of piercings. She used a clamp to hold my ear in place, pierced me, used a threading tool, then put in the jewelry-- those are the steps that I remember. No friends in the room for emotional support. I took a picture of a skull I saw in a museum and knew I wanted to get it tatted on me. It was my final week in DC and was having trouble making reservations with another shop for nearly two weeks. Best happy accident ever because I googled local tattoo shops and called Jinx Proof. At first they were a bit apprehensive when I described the Realism I wanted over the phone but said they could take a look when I got there (I had other tattoos in mind if I couldn't get that). Once they saw they told me one artist they had, MJ Roosmann, could pull it off. MJ was the shit! Super profession and create experience. I damn near nodded off because I was so tired and there was hardly any pain. And considering how good the work came out, I don't think I could've gotten a better tattoo at a better price. I had to remove a nose piercing and needed assistance putting it back in. I chose Jinx for location and because piercings are walk-in. Process was easy! I arrived, was checked in within 5 min, jewelery was sanitized, and then was taken to a room in the back to put the nose stud back in. Facility as clean; staff was friendly; price was right. I was a little confused when I entered because the staff were talking for a few minutes before they acknowledged me; I thought they were helping another client. Otherwise, happy with experience. Back in April my daughter and I had traveled from California for a short trip to Washington D.C. She was six years old at the time and had just gotten her ears pierced less than a month earlier. Unfortunately, she lost one of her earrings and was understandably upset at the thought that her new piercings might close up before we got back home. So, we went out in search of a tattoo or piercing shop that could replace her earrings, but this proved to be much more difficult than expected. Eventually we found Jinx Proof, and they were absolutely wonderful. They took the time to put new earrings in and to go the extra step of making sure they were the appropriate diameter and correct metal. They also took care to ensure they wouldn't come out again. And they didn't--after six months she was able to remove them. Got my helix piercing here and had a great experience. I had been doing a lot of research to make sure I was going to a trusted place. Piercings are walk in only but I only had to wait 10 minutes before I got called. You enter and fill out a couple forms, then choose the stud you'd like to put. Once everything is filled out you wait for your name to be called and then you're taken to the back. Unfortunately no one else can come with you. My piercer was great and really helpful. She marked a couple spots I could get it done before deciding where to pierce. It was quick and clean. They gave a great explanation of how to care for your piercing as well. Now 3 weeks later my piercing has healed very well. It's still not fully healed but I never got any infections or had issues cleaning it. read more

I was strolling down M st and popped in with the goal to buy new a nose ring. I had gotten my nose pierced 6 months ago, but it wasn't healing as I expected. As i was looking in the jewelry counter, Karl offered to help me. I shared with her my desires to switch out my ring and that when she told me that I had what they call a "piercing pimple". She gave me advice on how to fix it and told me to come back and see her in a month if it wasn't better. I saw improvements in just ONE WEEK and couldn't be happier. My artist was Nico. This was my first tattoo, and I was so so nervous. Everyone on the team was so kind to me, so patient, and explained everything so I wouldn't be surprised. I did six small line tattoos, and it was really important for them to be accurate because if they weren't, it would just look like a mess. The stencils were perfect, Nico helped me with placement, and the entire process was less than an hour. Unprofessional! They pierced my girlfriends conch in the wrong spot, let her walk out and then asked her back to remove and then re-pierce her conch. It not only raises the risk of infection but added unnecessary pain and bleeding to her day. I also had a nostril pierced but feel slightly disappointed with the fact that it isn't flush with my nose thus making the jewelry stick out at an angle At the very very least my girlfriend should've received free aftercare considering their rushed and botched first attempt. Everyone appeared to be in a rush. Would not recommend for ANY piercing. read more

I'm reviewing based on piercings, I have no experience with their tattooing services. A great experience. Piercing experience was quick and efficient; very reasonably priced. did a great and thorough consultation in advance. I got my tragus and cartilage piercing here in one go. I have a good number of piercings and these guys do a great job. Will be coming back when things heal up for my rook. Only small thing is a more limited selection of jewelry and not a lot of high end pieces (and no gold), but I get why. Based on the experience I am still giving five stars. read more

The dude was "nice" which is why I feel a little guilty writing this review but it doesn't counter balance the reality of my experience...TL;DR Go to Jinx Proof for piercings if you want overly expensive mediocre services on par with a college dorm room piercer--otherwise do yourself a major favor and go somewhere else. I assumed because Jinx was expensive, in a rich neighborhood and had a good google reputation it would be a solid stellar place but boy was I wrong The whole Story: I got my nose done here, the placement and the process were great. The piercing looked great leaving the shop. Within 24 hours when I woke up the following morning the piercing was flush against my nose, invisible if I turned to the side. After quick googling I realized the piercing was already "sinking." I called the shop and was told dismissively "sometimes that happens" it was "probably swelling" to take ibuprofen over the next couple days and come back if it doesn't get better. I began taking dental strength ibuprofen and everyday the piercing was still sinking worse despite the antibiotics and proper aftercare. I have 8 other piercings, 2 of them cartilages that have never swollen, gotten infected, scarred or got a keloid. Never had problems. I happened to run into my cousin at the mall who has a stud. I showed him the piercing, he was appalled and told me to get it taken out immediately saying if it sank more it might become infected and cause serious complications. I was shocked and went to jinx proof an hour before they closed. The same piercer agreed that the stud was too small, fit was too tight and the stud needed a much longer post. Things I would think an experienced professional piercer would've known. He agreed to put another stud in, one with a bigger jewel and longer post. After taking the old stud out he began trying to find the hole again for the new jewelry but couldn't and spent the next five to seven minutes stabbing my nose with needles (which was excruciating) trying to recover it. After failing to do so he relented saying he was making my nose more swollen and irritated. I was offered a refund (without my asking as he likely understood he butchered it pretty badly) and was told if I came back in 3 months he'd do it again for free and then i was shooed out of the shop. (As if i would ever allow him to touch me with a needle ever again for free or not.) I was pretty shocked how bad of an experience it was and was so utterly disappointed by the sheer incompetence. If he had know what he was doing from the beginning or wasn't too lazy to fix it when I first told him it was sinking I wouldn't be writing this right now. A monkey armed with a hypodermic needle could've done a better job. JP has great tattoos--they should probably stick to that. read more

Due to COVID-19, you have to make appointment on the phone. However we called and they said we can just come in. The front desk was on the rude side. We're not sure why, we tried to be nice about it in the beginning. But it was to the point, where the guy, front desk, just didn't like any customer coming through. Not sure if he was just in bad mood or just mean to everybody, which should be the opposite if you want to attract customers. They weren't busy but acted like they were. The tattoo artist was kind, he gave my friend and I small tattoos and informative after care instructions. I have had great experiences with Carl doing piercings for me. Recently I went in to get two lobe piercings. Carl was not in but someone else was, and she proceeded to do the piercings for me. I realized only after that she had used studs a few sizes bigger than I had requested, and the guy at the counter told me that they probably didn't have the size that I requested which is why she used the bigger studs (which she did not bother telling me about). I left the shop, and soon realized that the color of the studs were also wrong. I went back to inquire about this, and fortunately Carl was there. She told me that it was indeed possible to switch my studs to the smaller ones and to the color that I had originally requested, so she did that for me. The only problem was that I think that the piercing artist also missed the spots that she marked with the pen, because the piercings are not where I had wanted them to be and the spacing is awkward. I still had to pay full price for this experience but I may end up closing them. If you go to Jinx, make sure to request Carl!! She is amazing and kind and knows what she is doing. read more

Not a "regular" by any means, but I've been to the shop before a few years back for myself and I brought a friend on a separate occasion, and then yesterday, and I can say my experience has been consistently positive. Each time I've been a walk-in and accommodated almost immediately. Jeff did my second lobes yesterday, he was super cool, quick, and my piercings came out exactly how I'd hoped. Wes (guest artist from Charlottesville) did my tattoo and he was awesome. Super patient and thorough during my consultation and he really brought my idea to life. I had an idea of what I wanted but he really took his time to perfect the placement and design and make it "fit" without crowding my other surrounding tats.
